Cops can do SOME things other citizens cannot SOLELY because cops need to save lives.

But when they break those laws for no good reason, then they're just as guilty as any private citizen breaking them. If a cop blows a red light without their sirens on, they're just as much endangering the public as a private citizen blowing a red light. Same goes for illegal U-Turns, if you've not caught on yet.
