The idiots have put subtitles in White color which can not be read in B&W movies. I think they are color blind. I saw the movie for 10 mnts but could not read white words on white background.. they should have made it in black or red or blue, so that people can read duhhh
my god this movie is so sad. nothing has changed, things have only gotten worse since this time. when the hell are we going to learn to get along with each other?
@Komond thank you, I figured it out that night but watched a commercial free copy with subtitles anyway, I can't stand the adds, especially when there's 6 adds
Sure: "Fritz Langs "M" was first released and approved by the Berlin Certification Authority in April 1931 with a total length of 3,208 meters. A shorter, 2,693 meter version was released in 1960 under the title "M, Your Murderer is Looking at You." The orginal negative in the Federal Film Archive is 2,636 meters long. As much as could possibly be accomplished, missing scenes retrieved from historical copies kept the Swiss Cinema and the Dutch Film Museum have been added, making it 2,996 m.
@cb7pwn To the hundreds of commenters who keep saying that Peter Lorre looks like Bruno Mars, check out Google images for Sal Mineo (Rebel Without a Cause, anyone?). Then check out Rebel Without a Cause, another film classic.
@cb7pwn You're an idiot and I don't want to live on this planet anymore because of the large number of idiots like you that inhabit'it. "there's a hole in the world like a great black pit and it's filled with people who are filled with shit, and the vermin of the world inhabit it."

i understand how he couldn't help it when he killed those children and i feel bad for him, but i feel bad for the murdered kids too. they were so cute and innocent :'-(( so i'm conflicted as to what his sentence should be.
@serpico89 Which is why there was no sentence pronounced - it's left to the viewer to decide. Hmm, where have I seen THAT device used recently (Law & Order???).
He's in Hitchcock's "The Man who Knew Too Much" too. He reminds me of Peter Seller's Dr. Strangelove character. I wonder if Sellers studied Lorre for that role...
M, is one of the most scariest movies ever made. It was first premiered in 80 years ago. It made a big name for one of the most remembered actors that ever lived Peter Lorre. He played a psychotic Child-Murderer in Fritz Lang's horrifying flick made years before the war. Lorre will later be known in hollywood for starring in many other classics such as The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. & many more until he died in 1964 with his last flick The Patsy with Jerry Lewis.
@aeromilagro85 I want to point out how people can have different opinions and just not like some things, even if the things they don't like are objectively incredible. But this is Youtube, so unfortunately your comment makes more sense.
Very subjective, and very well done! The implications of bringing the law and the breakers thereof is astounding and drives a clear message of accountability. I was thrilled to know that the initial prospects of me enjoying this movie shifted enormously soon after the start. I'm pleasantly surprised, and in awe of the fine work of Mr. Fritz Lang. (Fritz being the tipoff character was interesting!)
amazing movie from the german master of film. love the final shot of the film, directed at the audience, to point out their own responsibilities to the children. Highly ambiguous film, and a great one at that.
OMG!!! I'm stunned! I could say loads about this incredible film. The quality of the acting, the way scenes were set up etc etc. I don't even understand more than a few words of German. But do you know the thing that affected me the most? I was terrified that the was going to get that first little one. Wanted to stop him.

fucking awesome movie... Damn criminals and beggars need to get a pay raise. police please sit at home and bug your dogs.. Did this movie ever get any awards.
The director, Fritz Lang, made this film before fleeing Germany. His own wife had joined the Nazi party. It is a picture of Germany after WWI that is horrible. The people look like rats. There is nothing glamorous here. The cops and the criminals mirror each other. It seems pretty clearly about what the Nazi party was doing to Germany and is depicted by the actions of a child murderer. Lang broke all kinds of new ground here. Best enjoyed by people comfortable with early film. a masterpiece
this film may have been based on a real serial killer in Germany at that time. He and other serial killers at that time were all selling black market meat. They can't say for sure that these victims ended up being butchered for that purpose, but there is a suspicion. This film doesn't touch on any of that. The murder that happens in this film is off camera and takes place through a famous montage: an empty dinner plate/ a balloon caught in electric wires.
btw that's not bruno mars on the cover it's Peter Lorre- a very famous actor of that era -He was also in Casa Blanca -Check him out on the imdb you will be pleasantly surprised

I m currently watching the top 100 movies of IMDB.
The IMDB rating of this movie is unbelievable.
Boring lengthy superficial scenes, hysterical over-acting, predictable plot.
No tension, no excitement, no thrill.
I agree that most hollywood films are even worse, but that doesnt make this film better..
GREAT dissapointment.
