  • anyone know if a DVD of this show is for sale anywhere?

  • Elton Dean's micro seems as it doesn't work. Shame...

  • so am i to gather that their albums aren't nearly as good at their live gigs???

i've only just discovered them and this disappoints me.

  • @abnormalvetter Stop whining and just enjoy all that they produced.......... if you find less than you expected, then perhaps you would find more enjoyment elsewhere. That's the beauty of music....... there is so much to choose from........ seek and you shall find comfort....... just don't bad-mouth something you dislike!!!!!

  • __THEMAUXMS(.)COM__

We're not quite exactly a spin off of them... but you better bet its study material.

  • songs: Facelift and Esther's Nose Job vocal intro

  • PS. Hugh desribed Lyn as "that guy with the nasty, evil voice drones"!! All the best Hugh, you a sweet guy and there arent always that many

  • I have a vinyl by Lyn Dobson called JAM SANDWICH. Can anyone tell me if its a rare one or whatever?! Its alot of fun, was givin it a spin just recently

  • totally rare

  • Amazing how much more I connect to this, seeing them play live. They seem a tad academic on record, more interesting than enjoyable. I commonly have that reaction to free/avant jazz. This makes me want to have been there.

  • I agree to some extent myself. Alot of improvised/free stuff doesn't seem to work on record. Alot of my early vinyls were dreadful! Poor muddy sound and boring. Case in point - Elton Deans Ninesence; didn't like the recordings I had, yet live they were phenomenal!!

  • @billahml Of course live is always better. But the thing they had over others was they rarely got lost in dithering. Wyatt and Hopper (at this stage) tied the beat down, so no matter what silliness Ratledge and Dean got up to, you could still tap your toe.

Plus, listen to Ornette Coleman or Eric Dolphy, for example, and the "jazz" elements will seem pretty tame, I'd say.

Oh, that last minute is pretty dithery, though

  • plus belle qu'une poubelle !;-)

when smoothly tipping over to the part2 it's

a living soul and mind experience..

    they did it again!

  • wow i never thought i would see or hear a harmonica in soft machine

  • amazing. i would have given a leg and an arm to be at that concert.
