I may sample this. I would like to bring attention to this woman's work by re-interpreting or re-editing it through a noise track. Adding sounds that won't take away from the original. I don't hear a genre of music within this song that fits more aptly than noise, as I believe the lack of structure and preference of static and hisses would fit better than beats, rhythm, and composition of conventional music.
What on earth was she thinkin' when she created stuff like that? I mean we are talking about the mid 60's here...This is far out. What a babe! I couldn't sample that. I have too much respect for her work and she already created something new and "finished". It's like i would sample Pete Rock's Sample you know? Just be inspired by this woman and create your own samples!
Anyone who says that rappers shouldn't sample this is stupid. The beauty of music is that it is available to everyone. It isart. I would be very happy now if this song was incorporated into a hip hop song so long as the history was acknowledged and appreciated. This is hip hop at its purest form and it is beautiful.
I don't actually see anyone being able to sample this unless they had TONS of cash to hand over to the BBC. And the lyrics to "spit upon?" Come on, that's just rude. And I'd imagine the subject of the lyrics would be just as rude.
Fuck, this is utterly fantastic. Is there some compilation release of her recordings or something? I'd give my left arm for vinyl or tape recordings of her work.
@clumpft There really should be a Best Of Delia put out, especially since all her tapes are being archived by the University of Manchester at the moment.
@ExtraClassyWesChang Don't assume that I implied that the rapper would be black. I'm saying that I'd be pissed if it was sampled by anyone, regardless of race or talent.
@Seej1982 no way man, that would be awesome if it was done well...it would be rad for someone to pay homage to Delia, expose other people to her stuff besides just us dorks

What a pretentious statement. Musique concrète was built on sampling other things and creating a new form of art out of it. Hip Hop and Rap also incorporate this and I don't see what's wrong with that.
@Gmancrap Its not pretentious. I just see it as some generic rapper spouting nonsense over it. I dont see Hip Hop & Rap as an art form from a musical standpoint. The same beat for 4 minutes while someone talks rhyme over it is not art, regardless of the subject of the rhyme.Yeah, it would get Delia out there more, but at what cost?
Well, I can't change your mind and I'm sorry you feel that way. To answer your question perhaps at the cost of more people appreciating Musique Concrète. Ever think about that?
@Seej1982 thanks for telling all of us what is art and what isn't. also, if you seriously believe its "the same beat" for 4 minutes, you are ignorant as hell.
and this is coming from someone that doesn't even like hip-hop.
@Seej1982 you seriously don't know good hiphop then mate, no offense. I understand ur fear but if a person like Madlib picks this up, he wouldn't rape the original. No doubt. :)
@Seej1982 Why? Hip hop at it's best is among the most exciting and inventive music there is.
Actually you've just inspired me to try and put a beat "under" this track later today, and don't worry I'm not a rapper, if I had to describe what I do it's improv and/or noise and/or plunderphonics.

The sampling itself isn't necessarily the problem- it's lacking the art to do something with that sample...

The backing track itself is very innovative, especially since they only had Studer mono tape machines.
I'll be pissed if a rapper hears this and wants it on his next album.
