  • I followed your tutorial but I cannot simply load realtek util after a computer reboot. I have to run the # sudo kextutil -t -v /System/Library/Extensions/rtl8187l.kext command every single time i start up my mac in order to use the adapter. Is this normal?

  • is the same on Alfa NHR for osx 10.6 ????????

  • hi everyone, i need some help, i've done the whole process and i've got the icon of the realtek usb wlan but it won,t start. any idea why?? or what i did wrong?? thanks...

  • ¿10.6.8 can be installed in the model AWUS036H with terminal commands? as explained in the tutorial to 10.6.

I read that you have to pass it to 32 bits (single step the antenna or to spend the whole osx 32-bit) then I will be working with all 32-bit (with any Mac application)?.

    thanks

  • Hi there! Since I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) today my Alfa USB wifi card doesn't work anymore. It looks like it wants to load the application (Realtek USB Wifi Client Utility) but nothing happens. The software doesn't appear so I can't connect to the wifi. I tried to reinstall without success. Any tips for Lion users?

  • hi.. booting Lion in 32 bit mode seem to work.. but it seem I have lots the ability to "save profiles".. the profile seem saved but the next reboot or USB WLAN Client start the new saved profile is lost.. Can anyone confirm this problem?

  • "No such file or directory" i using OS X 10.6..can you fix this?

  • I love you man...Guess I am not going to update to Lion then

  • You can back in 64bits mode with another command in terminal but the driver is not working in this mode.

  • @Cloos01 it seems tempting just to put it in 32 bit mode but then you lose the performance of 64 bit mode

  • Alfa responded to my email by telling me that there will be NO more Mac software updates for the AWUS036H. The Realtek 8187L chip inside will get no further (Mac 10.7) driver updates. I'm hoping someone has a fix because it won't come from Alfa.

  • @maestrosteve I found the solution for Mac OS X Lion :D Just put this command into the terminal: "sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386" (To set Lion in 32bits mode), reboot, install the driver (For 10.6 on alpha website), reboot again, and tadaaaaa :D

Désolé pour mon anglais, je parle français. (Sorry for my english, I speak french).

  • @Cloos01 will this leave lion in 32 bit mode? or can I change it back to 64 bit mode?

  • @Cloos01 Does that got for 10.6 as well?

  • Thank you this works, after changing to 32 bit, I was able to complete the installation.

  • @Cloos01 it still doesn´t work :S and i have snow leopard :S what is the reverse command to put things again normal ?

  • Bonjour,

  • Is there any posibility to use the AWUS036H on the new OS X 10.7 Lion update?.

  • Comment removed

  • @XgusX i contact with Alfa Customer Service and told me that AWUS036H is not compatible to Mac OS 10.6.7 and also the chipset manufacture has stopped its driver update for this particular model :(

  • @Polys88 I have working my AWUS036H on 10.6.8, the official driver will not work, but you can install. Google it

  • @NapalmCandy yes i worked it also but when mac os x lion came out i updated so i can't install it know :P

  • @NapalmCandy Hey I googled and I found this post... may I have the link now? :D

  • Is it possible to use the AWUS036H on OS X 10.7 Lion? Terminal gave me the following error when I went through your steps:

Warnings: Executable does not contain code for architecture: x86_64

Is there any way to remedy this?

  • GREAT!!!!! I wish you can post something for OSX Lion later on you are the best

  • (previous message's following)

I uninstall the realtek usb lan, and when i tried to instal it back, it doesn't install well. I don't get it, first time I tried some months ago it worked perfectly. The only solution I've found on the net is to reinstal the os but it sounds overkill to me. Any help ?

  • hi,

I got a pbm with my connexion. One day it was not possible to be connected to the net and when I checked on the realtek sofware, no signal detected. My connection is wifi. I checked in System Preferences/Network and the profile for my RTL8187_Wireless_LAN Adaptater is orange, said "connected" but also said "connexion has a self assigned ip adress ... not able to get on the Internet".

I tried to make a new profile, tried to force the ip adress assignement by rebooting the rooter. Nothing.

  • do these put out a full watt out-of-the-box in mac? When I installed it on windows, it has a option for a watt. When I installed on mac, there are no options...

  • While installing Realtek RTL8187L for 10.6 by the methods above an error occurs because the extension is not correct. How can this be fixed? Is there another link to download a valid Realtek RTL8187L from?

  • Please help! I am trying to get this product working. I have snowleopard- 10.6.6 and when I am in Terminal this is as far as I can get:

    ------- cd /System/Library/Extensions

    ------- sudo chmod -R 755 rtl8187l.kext

    Password:

chmod: rtl8187l.kext: No such file or directory

How can I undo this problem?

  • @happiness999 use uppercase for rtl, just do a ls |less in the directory and you will see the file is in caps not lowercase. hopwe this helps

  • Can I go into monitor mode with this driver on Snow Leopard?

  • @youdontfsckwithme Yes, you should be able to set the alfa to monitor mode. I believe you can set the Macbook's network connector (broadcom) to monitor mode as well, but broadcom connectors don't support injection, which is needed to gather information from the network in order to crack the security encryption, which is what I suspect you are trying to accomplish.

  • I don't get it...the card comes with the Mac OS X drivers. Why all the special instructions?

  • It worked flawless, thank you so much. Your explanation were really clear and complete!

    greetings from Chile!

  • Hello I found your video very helpful as I just bought this wireless adapter and I have snow leopard operating system. I'm new to the mac world but found this very simple. They only problem that I'm having is that i got this to work on the intial setup wonderfully. Now a day later I can't get the realtek ulitity to pop up (unresponsive and I have to force quit) and the network list says thats its unable to connect and I can't get the alfa unit to come on. thanks

  • thank you so much, that was really helpful!

  • can u make another video using window xp or vista or window 7

  • @thedarkemoangel00 I'll look into it.

  • thx..

  • I love you.

  • Hey I have been trying to get wireless on Snow Leopard and my wireless card has a RTL8187B Chipset, but I have been getting trouble with actually getting my WLAN Utility program to start, it sometimes just bounces up and down on the dock and sometimes just doesn't appear at all. I know how to make my wireless work on Leopard, it works flawlessly, but on Snow it's not working out for me. There isn't a 10.6.x compatible app or kext yet from Realtek but is there a fix out there? Plz help, iAtkos S3

  • @betatesturmom Same problem here. It just doesn't want to open... any idea abot this?

  • @betatesturmom and @yoichinoyumid1234 The RTL8187B chipset is a nightmare in general. What I would recommend is Googling "rtl8187b on mac", and choose the download the driver from the Realtek website, and then following the instructions in this video, but replacing "rtl8187l" with "rtl8187b" when necessary.

  • kextutil says (10.6.4, x64):

Warnings: Executable does not contain code for architecture: x86_64

Can't load /System/Library/Extensions/RTL8187l.kext - no code for running kernel's architecture.

  • @malefromhell hm. are you booting in x64 or is it what snow leopard boots into automatically? because i thought, and i'm not positive so i am probably wrong, that snow leopard did not come in x32 and x64, it was only x64 with the support for x32.

i don't boot my snow leopard installation any special way, yet it is x64 i believe because it is able to utilize all 8GB of my RAM, as opposed to x32, which only recognizes 4GB of RAM at most.

are you sure you set the permissions correctly? (chmod)

  • @JordyJordyJordy10 yes, i'm booting in x64 by default. try it in your terminal plz: sysctl hw.machine

    what it says?

and i'm sure that i set the permissions correctly.

  • @malefromhell You need to run your mac in 32-bit mode. I had the same problem in 64bit. Just restart the mac and hold the "3" and "2" keys to boot your mac into 32-bit. I got it working fine using the instructions provided.

  • @jeebo same problem with me too. i am need to m ac and i don't know how to restart my macbook pro into 32-bit and how i would know that it is now in 32-bit. thanks

  • @hbozsss Did you not read my comment? Hold the "3" and the "2" keys while your MBP is turning on. You will know if you're in 32-bit mode if the blue crab network app can start.

  • @jeebo yes i did and now it's working. thanks but how would i know that it is in 32bit or 64 bit.

  • @hbozsss how did u get it to work ?
