  • Im living in Japan for this whole year :D..

  • Can you tell me the name of the song from 00:38

  • very annoying beginning to the video...

  • You are a consumate professional when it comes to being the "giggly, loves-bad-conversations, harmless foreigner/English teacher". You do it masterfully, with the giggles and the interest in statements like "I am play golf. very good annnnnnd happy so." You respond with "Fantastic! Wow!" That is exactly what they want, that is how you get paid, and that is English teaching in Asia in a nutshell.

  • This reminds me of a time David Foburn and Gary Altgeeze said to James McCallister, "Hey, have you seen Mitch around?"

  • love the music in your video!! YEAH!!

  • To be honest, living in Japan looks kind of depressing. Okay sure I can see it's fun at first playing with the language and all that but after that what happens? No wonder many gaigin get together to survive the feeling of isolation. For me I prefer visiting 2-3 weeks at a time and heading back home to recover and get on with my life.

  • 9:48 is that jackie chan.

  • here in my car, i´d been visit japan

  • wow it's really so hard make it so away from home?

  • plain

  • That was a really nice video! :D

  • y dont you use a bowl...

  • this man scares me in a way

  • @MrDemdemsitar: lol

  • The front of your car looks like a mini porsche :)

  • I love drinking milk...Why i don't know..My question to you is..Does milk in japan taste the same as milk in america?

  • @Midnightryder7 i wonder that my self too and im from canada XD

  • @Midnightryder7

Japanese milk has a "silkier" and even a bit sweter taste compared to american milk. (is that a word) I am a big milk fan, and I think Japanese milk (Gyunyu) is the bo diggity!

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this!

  • What an adventure. How did you master the laungage ? Love your view.

  • Any reason you live in Japan?

  • your life is just as boring as mine. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • I watched the full length of both your winter and summer videos. Very interesting. Hows the sex life??

  • My name is, KAKOMAN!

  • Those streets are just waiting to be drifted.

  • lol, you have the same alarm as me!

  • is it just your students, or does everyone in japan seem super happy?

  • @gmsquared When people from different cultures speak to each other and had difficulty communicating, one of the best and universal ways of doing so is to smile. But that doesn't answer your question. They may just be very happy people. Or, just the people that he associates with. Or, he can evoke happiness in them simply because he is from America.

  • 1:15 - Is he died?!

  • keisuke is kawai

  • awww n_n

  • Group X Fuck YEAHH

  • looks peaceful, it must be very calming living there..

than you for the post :)

  • it looks incredibly lonely. is it possible to pick chicks up there?

  • @MattyMatt761 yep I was thinking the samething, life there seems to be full of lonelyness

  • Thank you for that. Very informative and fun to watch. I'm sure you are a great teacher.

  • At first I saw that the video was 37 minutes long and I thought "No way am I watching that whole thing! I'll just watch five minutes." And before I knew it the video was over. Very interesting and fun to watch. Thanks for posting!

  • This is a really great vid ty

  • funny, he's listening to 'say captain, say what' from Captain Sensible'; a hit from England from the mid 80's. I think he was a Radio DJ in England. Like Rick Dees and Disco Duck.

  • I couldn't watch this, it was very depressing as another person has stated.

But I'm glad you enjoy your life in the wonderful country and it sounds like you have a lot of fun.

  • Thank you so much man, from this video thanks to you, i've learned that to cheer up at my work and try to have fun instead of complaining and being down haha :), Again, Arigato !

  • I wonder where he lives. I seen the apartments and they're quite small.

  • when he begins to drive thats the crystal method playing bad ass song!!!!

  • Could someone please tell me how long it will take to be fluent in Japanese if I practice every day? Right now I'm learning the written language (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji) but after that I plan to learn grammar and structure, and then the spoken language.

  • Hi im only 14 but to move to Japan has always been a life long dream, the country never fails to amaze me and i was wondering how long it took you to learn the beautifal language itself because i want to fullfill that dream of moving to Japan one day :)

  • What is the song you use at 27:18? I like it.

I lived in Kyushu for about 9 months back in 1996. The people there were much more friendly than here in Tokyo.

You got lucky to live in Oita.

  • haha. Fruit loops are like 60% food colouring. I don't know why you would still eat them when there is so much nice food in Japan. O.o

  • were did you learn your japanese i would realy like to know???(:

  • There is a Japanesse learning software you can buy at BestBuy to learn Japanese.

But be warn, Japanesse talk on a whole new different level than the English language

  • @Revansmask17 what you mean with that ? a whole new level ? lol is it kind of like spanish we mix the letter r between words so people that speak native spanish dont understand us lol

  • 5:04

What a lump, you know for sure know one eats like that, at least pour a bowl man.

  • @Revansmask17 uhhhh i think he was just trying to be funny haha! i mean that wouldn't be very practical :P

  • very interesting vid! nice day but everything feels like tiny in Japan...

  • ....singin "poopin' in tha pants?" o.0...?

  • Shows you what we take for granted, living in the USA. Nice video, gives you a feel for what its like to live in another country. =^_^=

  • you show useful stuff, then you just show yourself going to bed or the toilet.. like wtf

  • omg no running hot water, wow that would soooo suck. i would like to do what your doing but not alone i would wanna bring a friend or go with my girlfriend.

  • the dude is pimping man

  • At 12:37 I though the kid had a gun.

I was like DAM they start kids early there

  • YAKUZA!!!

  • interesting. I'm contemplating jet but I'm just really unsure. I'm torn by the stupid little kid in me shouting 'Japan is sooo coooool' (you've seen these guys on youtube...) and the realistic person in me saying its a silly idea that involves putting myself out a lot

  • An interesting view. Thank you for posting this.

Seems like a really fun experience.

  • can someone tell me why in around 13:23 when the women started introducing themselves, they always began the sentence with "Merry Christmas"?? was it Christmas time by then or are they saying something in japanese?? im confused :S

  • Yes, yup. It was quite near Christmas time, and they were wishing my parents a Merry Christmas.

  • A DAY IN THE LIFE OF RIVERS CUOMO

  • why the fuck is he eating froot loops like that. he is totally fucking ruining fruit loops

  • luv it!!!

  • I agree with u, also its a very expensive Country to stay in, and life is a lot tougher than it seems. Japanese usually work long hours.

  • @LilaPumpa

I agree. There is alot of pressure put on students for studying there. However, I do want to live there. Only because I think it is such a beautiful country ^^

  • I wanted to find out what exactly life was like in a Japanese city and you totally delivered. Five Stars!! ありがとうございました!!

  • This video inspired me to move back to Japan, and so I did I moved back to Okinawa Japan with my wife and 3 kids. Hope is all well with you and thanks for a great Video.

  • @robertc190 : Thanks for the comment! I am glad to hear that you are back here enjoying Japan... I wish I lived in Okinawa too! That's quite the paradise!

  • It cool and all, but looking for work here is hard to do nothing is posted online or in the job magazines here. When I was here before, I worked several jobs to make ends meet. Right now I am working a few hours a week. Trying to be an ALT in April.

  • thank you , it's a documentary lol enjoy watching it

  • Thanks for sharing that slice of life. I watched the entire 37 minutes!

  • i love japan and i also love music technology/production so the ideal would be to study or have that as an occupation while in japan but i only see foreigners there for engineering, business, as english teachers, or in the military...

  • i would go not as an anime-obsessed teenager, but rather a car-nut. Japans automotive aftermarket = heaven. Though i can't disagree about taking life seriously and having responsibilities (japan apparently has a high suicide rate), im pretty sure i'll sink some bowls and hit the Wangan when im there :P

  • To people who actually wanna do the JET program, don't do it because you're an anime obsessed teenager. You'll find yourself hating the country, because it's not that different from other places in the world. It's not some magical place where your troubles go away. You still have responsibilities, don't expect to slack off.

  • You know what, if someone really want's to move to japan, and knows what to expect, they should. It is better to visit there first, to make sure you actually like it there, but hey, if you have a dream, go for it. Don't let people like danialglover bring you down.

  • I'm not trying to bring people down, at all. Japan is a great place, and by all means should be visited. But if you're planning on LIVING there, you need to do research. Don't try to make me the bad guy, just because I'm telling more to the story, then just this video, which is already a good idea on what to expect, for ALTs and JETs.

  • @ danialglover, not all people who move to japan will hate it, and there's no reason to be so negative. Sure, if anime is there reson for wanting to go there, then they shouldn't go, life isen't an anime or a fairytale, but if they are serious about it, and work hard, why not?

  • Noone said all people would hate it. I'm saying, that if you're going to Japan, only on what you've seen in movies, cartoons, etc

You mis-understood what I said completely. I know exactly that there are some people who are serious about it. Matt is a perfect example.

But the point still stands, that a lot of people get to japan, only to hate the stuff that they didn't expect. And they leave afterwords without giving it a chance at all.

I can be negative on it, because people need to know.

  • Anyone over 18 should know that no place is "magical" without your mothering. And you basicly Told anyone that want's to join JET not to. That's what your comment said. And that that they are anime obsessed. So i'm guessing everyone who want's to join likes anime right? Wrong. It's you grouping people that makes me angery.

  • "don't do it because you're an anime obsessed teenager." I didn't tell them NOT TO, I said don't do it only for the anime. I know some people who did perfectly fine, after they understood what they are in for, and I mean EVERYTHING. People come back complaining about the little things, like cheese costing so much, or the language barrier.

Seriously, you're looking way to much into this it's hilarious. And the misunderstanding is just ridiculous.

  • I'm not saying that every JET student is an anime nerd either, I'm saying don't go into the jet program, because you are.

I'm not saying Japan is a terrible country either, on the contrary, Japan is a great place, once you get past all the little things.

  • And you'd be surprised, at how many people, base their opinions on the country, just because their enjoy their cartoons.

  • Not to mention, the interview to get into the ALT program is fierce, and mentioning you're going because you like anime, will most likely drop your points with the program. Japan has food, Japan has scenery, Japan has a language that depends soley on the written pictorial characters that's needed to even read a newspaper. It's a challenge to live in Japan, like any other country.

  • Yes I agree. It's difficult to get into a country you weren't born in. And even if you get in, it's hard to live in a different country, and speak a differen't language. But, It can be done, with hard work. Not that there's anything wrong with liking anime, but that shouldn't be your reason for going. But honestly I've only heard of 5 year olds saying they want to go because of anime, but, I could be wrong.

  • Now we agree. Japan is a great country, a superb country. But it's a foreign country. This isn't a day we're talking about, or a week, or a month. This is a full year teaching in Japan. There have been people who quit, just because they miss their family, or because they don't have anyone to talk to other than students. It's indeed a lot of hard work to both get in, and survive. But when all the work has paid off, it's a great experience, and should always be, ignoring the little things.

  • I'm 100% with you there.

  • @danialglover I agree with you 100%. I knew people before I moved here though. Helps a lot.

  • I would be. When I was about 5 I told my sister I wanted to move to japan because they have anime on tv, but I couldn't imagine any young adult saying that, I suppose it's possible tho.

  • Yes I see what you mean now. Your wording was confusing me. I still think your comment was a bit negative, but the way I read it, you sounded like a complete jerk.

  • So much hate for yanks I bet a yank kicked your chav ass didn't they? LOL stupid fucking twat

  • that's rude. there's nothing wrong with being american. and theres fat people everywhere not just america. =P

  • very informative
