Ranka is compared to Minmay from the TV series (who becomes a big star) and Sheryl to Minmay from the DYRL movie (who begins already as a big star). In Zero, both sang too. Mao Nome (who is Sheryl's grandmother and whose role Ranka plays in a movie) lost her triangle with her older sister Sara Nome.
@thethessaliah LOL I didn't know that. I'd only read the plot of the first Macross Series (Robotech, in my country) and in an article, it was said about the prototypes of the ongoing series. And, to be honest, MF is the only Macross prequel that called my attention and, due to all I just told you, I figured this out. But, if I'm not mistaken, Sheryl is sick or something like that. Hope she could get to marry him at least, as Lisa did with Rick.
@DarkHime555 Robotech isn't really like Macross (for one the whole thing changed a lot, poor Minmay's characterization being a huge change, loved her in Macross, hated her in Robotech. They were two different characters). Macross puts emphasis on songs and culture, while Robotech on... fuel?
Plus is my favorite sequel, but Frontier is good too.

@xxOreoGirl No, no no. They didn't get married. If you want to be spoiled by what happened in the 2nd movie, I can tell you what I know. Ranka confesses to Alto, but he doesn't give her a yes or no right away. In the end of the movie while fighting the Vajra, he rejects Ranka's rejection over the radio, and then tells Sheryl that he loves her, though I believe he disappeared with the Vajra Queen in mid sentence, and Sheryl goes into a coma after. Ranka ends up giving her a blood transfusion.
@xxOreoGirl It ends with Sheryl still in the Coma, and Alto still missing, and Ranka says that Sheryl will wake up when Alto returns(though we don't know if he will return or not). Almost Macross Zero type ending that leaves the viewer to fill in what happens after. The Love Triangle was forever finished, but we are left wondering if the two Lovers will ever see each other again... :(

How were they supposed to know that she would barge in and completely misunderstand the situation. It's not that they hurt her feelings on purpose. So at the end of the day, they were her reason for breaking down, but they're certainly not responsible nor was it their fault. It was bad luck on Ranka's side, simple as that.

@thethessaliah LOL I didn't know that. I'd only read the plot of the first Macross Series (Robotech, in my country) and in an article, it was said about the prototypes of the ongoing series. And, to be honest, MF is the only Macross prequel that called my attention and, due to all I just told you, I figured this out. But, if I'm not mistaken, Sheryl is sick or something like that. Hope she could get to marry him at least, as Lisa did with Rick.

@DarkHime555 Robotech isn't really like Macross (for one the whole thing changed a lot, poor Minmay's characterization being a huge change, loved her in Macross, hated her in Robotech. They were two different characters). Macross puts emphasis on songs and culture, while Robotech on... fuel?
Plus is my favorite sequel, but Frontier is good too.

@xxOreoGirl No, no no. They didn't get married. If you want to be spoiled by what happened in the 2nd movie, I can tell you what I know. Ranka confesses to Alto, but he doesn't give her a yes or no right away. In the end of the movie while fighting the Vajra, he rejects Ranka's rejection over the radio, and then tells Sheryl that he loves her, though I believe he disappeared with the Vajra Queen in mid sentence, and Sheryl goes into a coma after. Ranka ends up giving her a blood transfusion.

Almost Macross Zero type ending that leaves the viewer to fill in what happens after. The Love Triangle was forever finished, but we are left wondering if the two Lovers will ever see each other again... :(

@tantask7Actually It was more sheryl and alto's fault that millions died.She likes alto and sheryl is her idol so when she finds those two about to kiss she breaks down.she couldn't just act like that didn't happen and sing happily. They're not her fucking parents or whatever. They're not obliged to be responsible for Ranka at all. And it's not that Sheryl was hugging Alto on purpose. It was a misunderstanding that escalated into a huge mistake on Ranka's part.
I get what you mean but you can't just handwave Ranka's fault like it's nothing. Anyways, she helped save Sheryl's life, so perhaps that was her redemption.

@Aprillis29Without either of them it wouldn't be macross frontier. i like ranka better because shes type who fight fair but if shes needs to will become fierce but i also like sheryl for her strong personality and her confidence but just cuz one is cute and the other is hot doesnt mean we should hate and bash on each other. @asadia12 What the hell. Alto and Sheryl are not responsible for Ranka's ways of thinking and feeling and how she reacts. How were they supposed to know that she would barge in and completely misunderstand the situation. It's not that they hurt her feelings on purpose. So at the end of the day, they were her reason for breaking down, but they're certainly not responsible nor was it their fault. It was bad luck on Ranka's side, simple as that.

@thethessaliah It surprised me, but I guess it was too much of a group wtf moment for anyone of them to react so quickly. And then Ranka already ran away and the Vajra attacked. Alto isn't that much of an asshole to leave the misunderstanding at that; he's just too honest. Same with Sheryl, especially her, who cares about Ranka a lot. What also struck me was the fact that Alto didn't make an attempt of comforting Ranka when she burst in tears and Sheryl had to slap and comfort her by herself.

I can't imagine Alto being so mean and wanting to leave the misunderstanding at that; he cares for Ranka a lot and would have taken her being hurt that way. I don't get what his intention would have been then. What's more, he saw that Ranka was hurt. And if so, then I wonder what the hell that jerk was thinking. xD Was he okay with Ranka thinking that he and Sheryl got close? Oh my
