Ain't nothin faggier than a singer shaking a tambourine like a retard. FAIL! At least Paul and Gene look like they're having fun and Paul Schaffer is just lovin the viby playing along.
This is my favorite tribute album...Mighty Mighty Bosstones rendition of "Detroit rock city" is fantastically fun, and Dinosaur Jr.'s played "Goin' blind" like it was written for them!...this tribute album got me into Kiss...I became obsessed with Kiss for awhile!
Bruins90210, Are you kidding me? Are you living in a cave? Granted they don't have a very large number of hits, but probably have had a dozen over the years and they're still writing good songs. To say they are 1 hit wonders is just ignorant on your part.
Not quite. 'Jealousy', 'Found Out About You', 'Until I Fall Away', 'Follow You Down' etc. etc. etc... I think that clearly moves them out of '1 Hit Wonder' status. And the fact they are touring almost constantly and still coming up w/great music/albums shows just how much staying power they have.
this just proves that KISS is always willing to give the newer (or smaller) band their big break. i love how KISS respects and remembers where they came from and is still down to earth. look at all the bands they gave a break opening for them: AC/DC, Motley Crue, Cheap Trick, Scorpions, Rammstein. the list goes on
@KISSfan888 I'm going to respectfully disagree with you. Gene has always seen younger bands as a way to make more money. Most legendary bands allow tribute albums to happen without them having to get in there and control everything legally. Those opening bands you mentioned were all good for ticket sales and it really had nothing to do with KISS being kind to them.
@saintrico Well that's how the music business works. Bands pick opening acts that are gaining momentum so they gain popularity. You are right with the tribute albums. But when KISS took those bands to open for them. They were close to nobodies. So they wouldn't be factor to selling tickets.
@KISSfan888 Gene knows the music business is about MONEY. He wouldn't gamble money on another band JUST because he wants them to get exposure. He (& Bill Aucoin) knew that those were up and coming bands with their own growing fan base. So YES, they were definitely a factor in selling tickets. Same with Man of a 1,000 Faces records. He sees the money making potential and wants a piece of the pie. Nothing wrong with that, but certainly nothing benevolent either.
Damn!!! The boys from the Gin Blossoms did a good job with this song. Robin's vocals were really, really good. Give Gene and Paul credit to know how to change a song up a little. I'm sure its one reason they stayed so successful for all those years.
what?! that makes no sence. there was a KISS character on wrestling but things like that make KISS more special and inspiring than w/e dumbass band you listen to
You might want to learn how to spell "sense" pal. I probably should not have been disrespectful to KISS. They are genius to come up with the idea of combining makeup, but many people don't like the music. I guess it's all personal taste.
Hey like I said, I think it was a smart idea to combine the makeup, after all none of the members are great musicians, just ask anyone in the music industry. However, most rock and roll historians agree that the really great bands don't need a gimmick, their music is all they need. I really do respect Gene Simmons as a businessman though, if you look up info on him you will find that he built his fortune not on music, but on his savvy business skill.
Yes the Gin Blossoms are great. Even more amazing live. About a year ago, we got to go to a small staff party in the City for one of our customers. He's a high roller and always books bigger acts. That year he booked the Gins. It was amazing to get to see them in such an intimate setting, and to meet the band. Their harmonies are incredible live!
Robin and Scotty are tiny (lead singer and guitarist, respectively). Phillip Rhodes (drummer) and Bill Leen (bassist, not in this video) are pretty big guys. And Jesse Valenzuela (guitarist, not in this video) is pretty average-sized.
