I also have Lightworks 10.0.4 but the transitions work for me.
To set a certain duration for the effect simply select 'in' (down at the bottom of the screen) on the frame in which you want the transition to start and then select 'out' on the frame where it is supposed to end.
If you do not get the separate track for the effect it may be possible to right-click on the track and select 'unfold'. This option isn't in my version for the transitions but works for other effects.
@JohUrb The same thing worked for me: have the two video tracks overlap for the duration of the transition (making sure that the one you want to start with is the one on top), then select "in" and "out", and only THEN press the "effects" button and choose an effect.
I find it's helpful when using Lightworks to visualize the different pieces of video as being literal pieces of film that you are stitching together. When I had that breakthrough, suddenly the program became a lot easier.
I think the problem with the transitions not working in this video is that the video tracks do not overlap and therefore have nothing to show underneath the top video
Your tutorials have been helpful. Wonder if you can help. When I go to add a dissolve effect between two clips, I don't get the Region, Duration, or Frames Option at all. I can select the transition, but the only button I have is an ADD and when I click on that zi don't see anything that I can do that resembles what you are doing in the video. I am using 10.0.4
Thank you for doing these. Giving others an overview of Lightworks, that have not read the manual or forums thoroughly is a daunting task, as it attracts a lot of noobs. ;)
Sadly, for an "in-depth" series I would have expected a little smoother presentation. Kind of ironic, that you are presenting an NLE solution without doing much editing to your tutorial.
It is a beta and natural that some things are not working as expected, but that should be covered in the end under caveats. Good job however
Hi i need some help, when ever i apply effects to a video track i dont get any "Fx1" layer, instead it shows a key frame on the video track clip.

I have the same issue - I can't seem to set the length of the transition in 10.0.4.
Also, there doesn't seem to be a transition track at all.
