Early 80s singers Linda Ronstadt, Diana Ross, Pat Benatar, The Go-Gos, Donna Summer, Blondie, Chrissie Hynde, Cher, & Olivia were awesome.

Then in 1983/4 Cyndi Lauper came along. Tacky, clownish, sloppy, and singing like a little girl (not like a grown up woman) she paved the way for Madonna, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston(who had a good voice but still acted like she was 12)  Except for Tina Turner, Annie Lenox, & the Bangles, the female pop music scene tanked after 1983.
