This is a great video...you answered all my questions that i had about micro fiber/ hemp!!!! Very very helpfull thanks so much for going into such detail!!!
I use the Flip stay dry inserts directly against my little ones skin as directed by cotton babies, but if its made of microfiber, why would the recommend that?
@aaahashleyyy I use the flip stay dry inserts (love them!) and you'll notice that they have two different sides - a bumpy microfiber side and a smooth stay dry suede side. The suede can go right up against baby, but the bumpy microfiber side NEEDS to be kept away from the baby's skin. The Flip tag says 'this side down' in super tiny writing if you have a hard time figuring out which side is which. Hope that helps!! ~Carla
it's funny that these are the 2 main fabrics you guys use. In Australia the main absorbent fabric used is bamboo (cotton, fleece, terry etc) and some microfibre. We also have hemp but you see way more bamboo.
Are you guys going to review Itti Bitti's? They're a popular Aussie nappy that uses bamboo just released in the US
I don`t know why but I have had nothing but issues with hemp I do not know why maybe im not using them right or something. So I stick to my mirco fiber they work good for me
@MarieOgden Did you prep them properly before using them? They take MANY hot washes to become completely absorbent. We boil ours for about 15-20 minutes to prep them. It is much faster than washing them.
@ClothDiaperChannel When you use the boiling method to prep diapering stuff, do you need to use a prepping-only pot...like, will it ruin my pot for actual cooking use?
we have those Hemp Babies doublers as well, and i am SO in love with them. they are awesome! so so so thin and it turns any of our pocket diapers into an overnight diaper, without adding bulk.
Also, have you used bamboo doublers? I have about 6 or 8 Kawaii bamboo doublers and I haven't tried them out yet (baby is not here yet). What has been your experience with them (bamboo doublers)?
@nocturne1980 I have one diaper that has a bamboo insert (Yo-yoo pocket) and that is my only experience with bamboo. They should work great and are safe to go against the babies skin.
Do you have issues with your hemp getting crunchy? I am due in July and have a big selection of prefolds and microfiber inserts already, but I bought some used hemp inserts and prefolds and they are all kinda stiff and rough. Do you think they haven't been laundered properly or is this something that just happens with hemp over time? Thanks for this video, it is really helpful!
@shotee1030 Hemp will get stiff if they are line dried and not put in the dryer so I don't know if that is the case for those or not. However BOTH hemp and Microfiber will loose some of it's softness over time. Hemp is naturally a little rougher and not as plush as microfiber.

I am about to order some hemp babies! How many do I need?
PrettyThingsbyLauraH 1 year ago
@PrettyThingsbyLauraH depends on your baby and your stash. We have about 6 and I wish we had some more.
