Just ran across this - rather blows me away! Each person playing here must be a ... well, a virtuoso! Jeff Beck - when he started, I thought, "Where's the horn player!" And the rhythm section - the drummer (sorry I don't know his name) is solid with totally appropriate flash,and Tal plays so appropriately. The keyboardist is excellent too. Do you get that
They broke the mould when they made this guy, true guitar virtuoso, saw him play in the sixties in concert, we would stand watching and listening to him play, and he'd make you shiver with excitement, unforgettable experience, he's even better these days, if that's possible.....
@oker59 Back when Vinnie used to play with Sting, this drummer I knew told me that Sting had him on a $1,000,000 retainer, a million bucks a year to be always available to him, whether they play or not (and it was probably true). I think at least that these big-name acts that hire him don't underrate him.
@oker59 No kidding. This is such a hard song for a four-piece band to pull off live. It could easily sound hollow and thin, but more than anything I'd credit Vinnie for keeping it full and strong. Of course, Jeff, Tal and Jason are fabulous. But with a lesser drummer, it likely would make you wish for the studio version.
@oker59 That was Terry Bozio on "Guitar Shop." Actually, the person you should credit with knowing how to pick them is Frank Zappa. Both of them played with Zappa when they were starting out. Steve Vai has a great story about Vinnie playing an incredibly complex piece of Zappa's that dazzled even Zappa and Vai.
Well, I had Dweezil's first album on tape; but, it's gone now; i've been checking it out, some "my guitar wants to kill your mama", and then some Frank with Stevie Vai; i'm now convinced of Frank Zappa.
I then started checking out Dweezil's main website, and as it turns out! He's in concert in San Diego in a couple of hours; if I don't want to miss it . . . !
@1952FMS That includes all the incredibly taleneted fusion players, Dimeola, Mclaughin (whom Jeff admires), etc., any of the metal shredders Vai, Petrucci, Satch, you name it. On the electric guitar there is Jeff, and there is just everyone else. He expanded the vocabulary of his instrument.
@michaelallenfarmer We all fall for the babe bass player (yes she's hot but she is not taking advantage of her looks) and then we get over it & realize she is the next Jaco Pastorius. So, get a life.

@410bassman
Hello,
I first learned of Jeff Beck with his "Guitar Shop". I had to look up who the drummer was then; oh well; Jeff Beck knows how to pick them, ha?

@eqsmooth Jaco Pastorious was a drunk asshole. That is why he was beaten to death outside a bar in Florida. Tal is a sweetheart.
