  • You're pretty good!

  • THAT IS JUST SO TOTALLY FUCKING MENTAL I BET THIS GUY COILD EVEN DO METALLICA-- INSANE AND BRILLIANT.

  • @thrillseeker70 Anything classical is going to be twenty times harder than any music performed today, no matter the genre.

  • He's cheating. He's obviously Severus Snape

  • I only can say - WOW! I know the instrument (just while listening . . . sorry), and I know this masterpiece of classical music, but what you're doing is a new kind of feeling - I love it! Many thanks!

  • WTF GREAT

  • It's technically only a Toccata but whatever. most impressive.

  • 5 stars, pal...

  • Bravo!! Bravo!!

  • Did Keith Olbermann use your rendition last night?

    Nice!

  • This piece is totally a hammer! (Or is that for tuneing?)

You're doing a hell of a job bringing in this traditional japanese flavour into Bach.

    一ばんですと!

  • You, sir, are a musical genius. I'm sure that I'm not the only one in complete awe.

  • your an american shamisen master?

    do u give lessons?

  • amazing. супер.офигительно просто

  • I wonder what is that hammer doing there

    lol

  • This is very inspiring! Kudos.

  • Oh, man, I'm sitting here slack-jawed. You REALLY need to do the complete video, even if it's in in a week's worth of time. What a masterpiece to perform on the Shamisen! Go rent some studio time. It's totally worth it!

  • @jnickence OH Thank you so much for the comment. Although the rest of this is probably not possible with just one player. I would LOVE to arrange this for two Shamisens someday. but in the meantime thanks for the encouragement!

  • Greate stuff! Play the rest please!

  • He is the best shamisen player in the world.

  • horrible

  • fucking awesome hahaha

  • Isn't this guy in God of Shamisen?

  • bach would be proud

  • This is so effin Rad I looooove it! you guys really inspired me to get eh Shamisen now for good im gonna buy one !!!

  • that's only Toccata in D minor no Fugue in D minor

  • Ohhh.....I've been looking for this piece after Metalica and Fur Elise, here it is.... great!! ------ yet, as a few people pointed out, I'd love to listen to with more players backing up.

  • Good idea. In fact Monsters of Shamisen is currently in the proccess of making an arrangement of this peice for THREE players! It will not beperformed until May of 2009 so have some patience and we will post it up eventually! Thanks for the comment!

  • I happened to see this same piece performed live in Aomori. I think that one is better.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with dulcimoo. Two shamisens would sound more "fugue"ish.

  • It's not very fuguey. You need a few more to play with him! But it's cool.

  • EMI music Japan should make a Bach on Shamisen CD. I'll buy it!

  • That's it, I'm saving money for a shamisen ;D

  • Good good! You should contact Kevin if you have any questions.

  • wat are u strumming with it looks like comb hahaha

  • it is called a BACHI. It is a traditional plectrum which has been used for stringed instruments in Japan for hundreds of years.

  • wait so that thing he uses is what makes the sound of it or is it just because?

  • Like a guitar has a pick, a shamisen has a bachi.

  • J.S.B loves Shamisen!

    -James

  • There is a "live" version somewhere on YouTube. Taken in Aomori,Japan.

  • That is the coolest thing EVAH'!!!

  • Very good ... bit wierd ... but good

  • Ingenious

  • I need to try this next through an amp!

  • シャミセンで弾くと、バッハが新しくなる。

  • Well done!

  • A beautiful and faithful adaptation. Bach would be proud.

  • Hey - sounds great. Where can I find the original J. S. Bach Experience recordings?
