i disagree, when Bruce Lee made Jeet Kune Do, he added some Muay Thai moves in it so the moves wouldn't be new to him. In fact he knew a great deal of Muay Thai and many other styles.
Bruce Lee did know a bit about Muay Thai but he was largely dismissive of it because he thought they moved slowly and boxed badly.
He preferred Savate, French boxing, where the players use English boxing with the hands and have fast elegant kicks. It was ahead of Muay Thai until Thai's learnt english boxing.

jonrad5, my understanding is that UFC 1 proved that most dojo martial arts have evolved to such an extent that they have limited usefulness, you're right. I think at one point they were far more useful, but the vast majority of them have become more sports than martial arts, and so are less useful. Muay Thai, and the various forms of jiu jitsu and ground fighting, are more practical in today's day and age. Which is why they're used in MMA.

YES! Xplosion 17 announced Gold Coast convention center and Carange will be in the main event (8th of December). Not sure of his opponent as yet but I've just purchased mt ticket! Get to drive the new Nissan Navara ST-X dual cab ute from Sydney to QLD to see Carange live, does it get any better? I think NOT.

The pants and similar style are because both him and Souwer also compete in shootboxing, which is similar to Muay Thai, but with standing submissions and throws.

I practiced muay thai and I think it is NOT a legal move of muay. Maybe it is chinese martial art San Shou or anything else, but not muay.

Nathan's highlight reel needs an update as most of the footage is from a few years back in his earlier fights, the last year ot two he's been unstoppable and has also gone up a few weight divisons, think he's around the 90kg mark now.

Need to research before you comment mate! Carnage is a 4 time WMC world Muay Thai Champion, he just came back from Sweden where he won the 8 man eliminator K-1 GP and last night (Explosion 16) he KO's Kaennorsing in the 2nd round bringing is career to 41 fights - 38 wins - 2 loses - 1 no contest & 30 by way of KO. You may well be right because he has yet to fight "no rules", but I could say the same, Silva, Sakuraba or Fedor would not stand a chance against Nathan Full Thai (Knees & Elbows).

i disagree, when Bruce Lee made Jeet Kune Do, he added some Muay Thai moves in it so the moves wouldn't be new to him. In fact he knew a great deal of Muay Thai and many other styles.

Bruce Lee did know a bit about Muay Thai but he was largely dismissive of it because he thought they moved slowly and boxed badly.
He preferred Savate, French boxing, where the players use English boxing with the hands and have fast elegant kicks. It was ahead of Muay Thai until Thai's learnt english boxing.

Furthermore Bruce was not even close to the best fighter in his day, Gene Lebell reguarly schooled him, and allowing eye gouges wouldnt have changed a damn thing.
Roberto Duran was about the same weight as Bruce and lived at the same time, and would have quite literally killed Bruce Lee, I mean literally ended his life.

Shut the hell up with Bruce Lee, he was an actor who trained in martial arts, Corbett is a profesional fighter who eats breathes and sleeps fighting, he would fucking eat Bruce alive. Bruce was first and foremost a kung fu guy, sure he cross trained in differnet styles after a while, but doing a few years of training, not even fighting, is absolutely not enough to prepare you for somebody who has fought a proven effective style most of his life.

jonrad5, my understanding is that UFC 1 proved that most dojo martial arts have evolved to such an extent that they have limited usefulness, you're right. I think at one point they were far more useful, but the vast majority of them have become more sports than martial arts, and so are less useful. Muay Thai, and the various forms of jiu jitsu and ground fighting, are more practical in today's day and age. Which is why they're used in MMA.

Wasnt UFC 1 proof that most of the dojo martial arts didnt really work in a 'real' fight? i recall a praying mantis kung fu guys teeth flying across the cage in UFC 1, at that moment martial arts evolved more than it had in the past 10,000 yrs, i only really see Muay thai, Jui jistsu and wrestling in Vale tudo and MMA - where are all the kung fu, tae kwondo guys gone?

Bruce lee is what, 120 pounds? yes solid as hell, but how manny swing kick can he block? I was once told that Chuck Norris can kill somebody in 2 seconds. I don't know man, in the Texas Ranger show I think that spin kick takes a little bit more than 2 seconds.

In today's age and time we still have people like you in the world is amazing. Keep it up, species like you are in the danger of becoming extinct. Yes people, Bruce Lee would dim mak your ass and you are dead. He would also do a one inch punch on you and make you fly accross the ring. and any Wing Chun master can do a "pak sao" on any of those elbows and strike "the kiss of the dragon" on Corbett, and corbett would die horribly.

lol@bruce lee comment. no offense, but not only bruce, but many others in the world could take 2 or 3 of these guys at the SAME time. mixed martial arts is interesting. most have limited boxing ability, and limited wrestling skills, let alone more subtle techniques. but with little defense, someone always gets pummeled. bruce lee could punch this guy 3 times, at critical points on his head and body, before he even got off one of his elbows. its not even the same dimension.

Apinya sor Pumarin...Kwame Stephens...etc...all awesome...good GOD Adjarn Chai back in the day. (probably now too if he'd compete)

Muay Thai is an incredible style. The only man I've known of with faster, better placed kicks than Nathan Corbett, was Bruce Lee.
