I have played this game once and I was able to get out of the rat race. How I wish I could get out in real life fast. I know it is doable and i am now starting by looking for good deals and hopefully buy rental properties for the cashflow. I want to retire young :-)
HI Trace, I believe everyone on earth wanted to get out of the rat race but are being prevented for some reasons. I have the opportunity to play the board game once and you are right it mimics real life situations. In my case, it's distrust of peoples' intentions and fear of failure that makes me think not only twice but many times to take the challenge. But after playing the game I decided to conquer my fear and just be cautious.
@rawfodog75 - I agree with you: in some markets rents will go down and hence, market values will go down with them. But as always, in real estate, there is NO "general market"...because real estate markets are highly local in nature. There are parts of the US and the world - in which rents are increasing and values are increasing. You just need to do the work to find them. Also, one can buy properties below their current market value from motivated sellers. This eliminates your downside.
I'm looking to earn some passive income. However, I would like to do this without debt in this deflationary environment. I think rents will still go down and housing will go down. I just need to know of other methods of getting passive income.
Are you an asian or maybe a filipino?
