  • @dannybrown15

    thanks :)

  • Year?

  • does anyone know the song playing in the background in the very beginning? it's a pete song but i can't tell what it is.

  • Knopfler looks like Angus Young's lost twin here

  • Pete is always the theme of epic, beautiful sadness to me.....sometimes.

  • Pete townshend is one of my favourite guitarists but Mark knopflers is number one to me, but from I have about pete Townshend these days saddens me becuase he can't hear like he used to.

  • KNOPFLER AND TOWNSHEND = GUITAR GODS

  • Pete is only one live guitar legend who was great composer too. Beck, Page and Clapton are very good guitarists but IMHO they aren't great composers. Knopfler originates from different period in rock music...When Townshend started his career the rock music didn't exist and groups like The Who start to created this new genre. Knopfler didn't invented nothing new but I like his music. But Townshend it is a different dimension in music!

  • PT has always come across as awfully arrogant amd MK as painfully shy and self-deprecating. That being said, they seemed ill matched. Thanks for the post .

  • Townshend has the most well known riffs.

    hes fuckin amazing especially live!!

  • local hero ..... going home

  • Anyone have the full performance? Would be great to see ;)

  • Pete Townshend is a WONDERFUL guitarist. he is a true musiccan and can play ANYTHING <3

  • nonce

  • haha love the body language from 1.52 to 2.32. marks looking at pete and leaning towards him and pete just backs off and stands up like 'stop looking at me' lol

  • whats he smoking?

  • Awesome. Never knew that these two guys played together. The part where just Townshend and Knopfler are playing alone is classic. And the 'Going Home' theme from local hero is a brilliant melody. Great video.

  • God, I loved when Pete played those Schecter Teles....I loved that tone.... Pete shouldn't be playing Strats...too thin for him.

  • My god I love YouTube. My absolute favourite guitar players of all time.

  • mastersssssssssssssssss¡¡¡¡

  • Pete and Mark ... wow, that's two king-sized lead guitar egos in one room!

Pete looks both impressed and condescending towards Mark's "Local Hero" chords. As in, "who is this guy Knopfler to think of something so good? Why am I even bothering?"

They are both so tellingly British.

  • It was for a Prince's trust concert. They never did any work together just that one song.

  • I never knew he played with the DS... he looks quite arrogant actually.. like "I am too good for you guys"... although he's good, for me Mark will alway remain the master!

  • yep marks is far better no question

  • When did this concert with PT and DSs take place?

  • It sure looks like 1985...but I i'm not sure

  • The first concert of the residency at Wembley Arena in July '85 had proceeds going towards the Princes' Trust. This concert took place on the 4th of July.

  • whats the name of the song that pete is rehearsing? iknow..stupid question..but still...

  • Local Hero

  • going home.

    local hero is a film

  • @dannybrown15 no no no it's Going Home

  • @clanbj Local Hero. :)

  • @entopic It's called 'Going Home', from the Local Hero movie soundtrack. One of Knopfler's most beautiful compilations.

  • @entopic

    Brothers in Arms, I think!

  • @entopic

oh maybe it IS Local Hero! Sorry!

  • @entopic going home from the film local hero

  • Pete can do anything he wants.

  • Yeah well..even Strauss has to play along with Royalty... and I suppose Mark's Father had to take refuge from politics..not my scene. Maybe I am too close to the past.

  • Not to mention Melvyn Bragg...Lord Hesketh..at least on THIS occasion he do not mubble..

  • Isn't Dire Straits Princess Di's favorite band?

  • Come on ! Be serious...

  • Lots of idiotic comments posted on youtube. Yours is near the top.

  • Mine or his ?

  • Sorry, I was replying to lukathewhat'shisface. Townshend's technical ability is vastly underrated IMO. Agree or disagree, but to say Pete is crap compared to anyone is asinine.

  • To the person calling himself lukatherknopfler, your comment is ludicrous. Preferring Mark Knopfler to Pete Townshend is understandable (and vice versa), but to say "Pete is crap compared to" anyone is dimwitted. However, I believe it can be said that while Knopfler's creativity is alive and well and that he continues to make great records (i.e. "All the Roadrunning"), Townshend hasn't done much during the past two decades but tinker with and retool his previous work. And "Endless Wire" sucked.

  • tom hope, Endless wire has good end bad songs. today everybody makes only bad music, and under that circunstance, i'd say Endless wire is a very good record.

  • Mark does beat Pete on Rolling Stone's list but that list is fucked up.

  • Your a gorgeous genius Pete!

  • Thanks for uploading this vid!

  • Yes it was neat!!

  • That was neat!
