  • This groove is hard for me because the bass drum hits simultaneously with the snare in a segment of the groove and it is very unorthodox in conventional grooves. I have to work on this one. This video series is way underrated and I wish they re released it on DVD!

  • @drumwithmike they are

  • Gary you're awesome but please put something inside the bass drum and tune that fu***** snare drum

  • @andrea0931

He's retired, thanks for your input anyway. joking

  • @andrea0931 I like the way they sound. There's nothing wrong with them. It's all about personal preference.

  • @andrea0931

this is most ALL the greats originated from......like the GREAT VINNIE COLAUITA!!!!!!!

  • This guy is a legend. What a great teacher!

  • this snare sounds very open....

  • does GARY use a GERMAN GRIP ??

  • Does it looks like a german grip in your opinion?

    Its a Frence Grip!

  • @biglalu

Actually, it's in between. American grip.

  • @PositivelyBored Sure, American grip!

  • french

  • more on the french side.. looks like it's in between american and french though

  • excellent groove and sticking, the bass has a bit too much ring for me, i prefer more of a thud, but who the fock am i.........well done

  • amazing skills, too bad the ring on that fat snare is killing all the inner notes in the audio

  • a perfect meeting of Old School and Modern Drumming!! the best!

  • wow

  • Wow. That's a great groove. The more harder fills you do the more people entend to get the groove, but the less fills carries you away. The ghostnotes were well done and the triplet thin at the end GENIUS

  • great o grande

  • yeah his method is great !!!

  • Gary is the greatest teacher ever.

  • I think Gary Chester was probably better

  • In actuality we're probably both wrong...

Gary Chaffee and Gary Chester have both put out an amazing list of drummers, but I think that Alan Dawson probably has had more of his students go on to be big time players than any other teacher...

  • My teacher studied with Dawson. I tend to agree with you. Chafee seems heavy on technique, but Dawson's studies incorporate technique into music. You see alot of Dawson's theories in Vinnie and Tony. Still, both GREAT SCHOOLS!!!

  • @DrummaMan75

I studied with many Berklee instructors, however none would compare Alan to Gary. Both are very similar in their teachings, actually ,though I didn't study with Dawson. One of my ex- instructors studied with both.

  • how do you know?
