This groove is hard for me because the bass drum hits simultaneously with the snare in a segment of the groove and it is very unorthodox in conventional grooves. I have to work on this one. This video series is way underrated and I wish they re released it on DVD!
Wow. That's a great groove. The more harder fills you do the more people entend to get the groove, but the less fills carries you away. The ghostnotes were well done and the triplet thin at the end GENIUS
Gary Chaffee and Gary Chester have both put out an amazing list of drummers, but I think that Alan Dawson probably has had more of his students go on to be big time players than any other teacher...
My teacher studied with Dawson. I tend to agree with you. Chafee seems heavy on technique, but Dawson's studies incorporate technique into music. You see alot of Dawson's theories in Vinnie and Tony. Still, both GREAT SCHOOLS!!!
I studied with many Berklee instructors, however none would compare Alan to Gary. Both are very similar in their teachings, actually ,though I didn't study with Dawson. One of my ex- instructors studied with both.

@andrea0931 I like the way they sound. There's nothing wrong with them. It's all about personal preference.
