GTX 260 > 4850, so GTX 260 will give you around 15FPS (at maximum) greater when compared with GTX 260

Just ordered mine today. One of the reason why I chose it was simply because the heatsink seems amazing on it.

I managed to get rid of my 2 3870 for about 80$ each and I bought that one for 125$.

I know the 2 3870 was equivalent to the 4850... but one 4850 consumes less power than the 2 3870 and I managed to put a few $ in my pocket in the mean time :P

lol well i got it a week ago, and im dissapointed because its defective. When ever i play highly graphics demanding games like crysis or use furmark, it crashes my pc in less than 1 minute. I just RMA'ed it to XFX today, took it to the post office, hopefully my new exchanged card works fine..other than the problem the xfx 4850 xxx is very good, but i googled my problems and alotttt of people have the same exact problem as me with the same exact card. =/ but otherwise its a great card

yes you can run same series cards in cross fire, 4830, 4850, 4870(x2), 4890 will work in cross-fire

yes it does supports old monitors, it has two DVI ports and graphics card comes with 1 DVI to VGA connector, so for your old monitor, you can use it

4830 would overclock better than 4850 no problem, but still its cut down version of 4800 chips (i am saying this again),

4830 = 640 stream processors

4850 = 800 stream processors

price difference is merely $25-35$, i think its worth getting 4850 as it offers more power out of the box, and you can always overclock a 4850.

just waiting for LCD's prices to come down and they get more improved in terms of brightness, contrast and size, will buy one in near future!

I would suggest you to get 4850 or 4850x2, don't ever go for 4830 they are cut down versions of 4800 chips, while 4850 & 4870 both have same processors. Go with more value, 4850

there is new card out ATI 4890, which is little less on performance side as compared to new nvidia 275, hopfully ATI will aggressively price that for make it an attractive deal, if you are more of performance junkie, go with Nvidia GTX 275

gts 250 = 9800 gtx+ which is now fairly old architecture wise, takes more power, generates more heat, so i would recommend you to go with 4850 as its most recent ATI line of graphics cards and you can expect more performance from them in future as drivers get maturer.

Music: Moby Extreme Ways (Aka Bourne Identity SoundTrack), 350W and Up can handle 4850 (350W Being risky though, If u have a good 350W by corsair or some other good brand then there will be no problem)

Have you tried overclocking this card? It's cooling performance is great right? The temperature, according to you, is 45-50 @ load? Wonder what's the temperature when you push it to its max. I'm thinking of getting this card too.

i played cod4@ 1600x1200, maximum details, temperatures were 40-43c idle, 45-50 under load, i haven't yet tried overclocking this card because its performs really well even when you turn on maximum details, its a great card, i think there is a lot of overclocking potential too as the temperatures are really nice

This card never reached 50c, at maximum i have seen it at 48c underload, but i think in summer days it would probably get to 50-52c, but thats still 10-15c temperature difference from standard 4850
