rad, 70 percent of em are conversions with breaks. and then road bikes, if u gonna ride a fixxed do it right, no fucking brakes, that means no front or backs.
The riders are goint to the Balaton. From Budapest (Hungary). The distance is 130 KM. THe peoples who have brakes and shifters are just the water bringers. And they are for brake the wind before the brakeless guys...
at an alleycat, a spoke card is issued after you register, usually indicating your racer number. some people leave the cards in their wheels and compile many after doing more races.
okay i get it now.... srry for saying they were gay, i thought they were doing what little kids do (put cards in ur wheels to make it sound like a dirtbike) <-- that would be gay.
Even on a fixie it's dangerous not to have a front brake. "at speed , if you brake , u crash" that's just stupid. I can get up to 35 and if i see the stoplight changing i use my brakes to stop.
You're right, I believe in freedom of choice and am simply stating that it's dangerous. I don't believe in wearing seat belts or motorcycle helmets even though I do both.
mrbuddy is totally right. if 3/4 of your braking power on a conventional bike comes from front brake, (common knowledge) then why the hell should fixies take theirs off for the sake of a few grams, or because they think they can skid stop everywhere.
If your on a fixed gear with a front brake and you have to STOP NOW...
You hit the front brake hard, slow down with your legs, and make sure your weight is centered or towards the back of the bike.
Caliper tend to flex quite a bit depending on quality and usually allow some "give" even when engaged hard. They're not going to stop like disc brakes...so flipping is hard...but not impossible.
Its just gradual. You dont want to pull on the brake with full force. Its not safe. With yourself resisting with your feet on the pedals and a small front brake you can slow yourself down. If you have no brakes like I do you really have to watch your suroundings.
@kilobitti You have legs in your back tire? Sounds like you have run into the backs of a few too many UPS trucks.

I think the west coast states have made brakes on bikes the law. Which makes sense, fixed gear is cool, but no brakes? In a metropolitan area?
Wrenchbender412i 9 months ago
@Wrenchbender412i Fixed gear means you have brakes in the back tire. They're called legs.

this isnt an alleycat man. this is just some standard tour de france shit.

Not only are most of these guys running brakes, the guys at the front of the pack are riding road bikes with derailers. Live and let live.

its funny, the video says "Brakeless Alleycat 2007" but most of those bikes were all rocking brakes, not just front brakes, but rear as well.

whats with the gay playing cards in the spokes?
jinglemybells262 3 years ago
Those are their spoke cards to show what bike club or team they are on. Depending if its just a sponsored team or local riders.

it is just as gay as making your bike sound like a dirt bike if you put cards in your spokes as a fashion statement

I do wear seat belts in cars as well

It's their choice, but i can be dangerous for other people, that's what pisses me off.
It's their responsability until you hit a kid at 30 mph.

I'm just curious, when you are going at a high speed, won't you flip if you brake? I'm always too nervous to use my front brakes hard.

How do the bike messangers with no brakes stop?
JohnR177 3 years ago
theyre fixed gear, theres no freewheel so if they slow the pedals down it slows the back wheel down too
growlydebear 3 years ago
They push the cards between the spokes :-))
With their fingers ;-)
UncleGroOve 3 years ago
they do skid stops, where they hop the back wheel off the ground, stop the pedals mid-rotation, and skid until they've slowed down sufficiently.
