This one of all time greatest love songs. Which can be song to a child, parent, sibling or a best friend. Even your pet. Just pure love at it's simplest.
@mehidalgo18 There is music like this still out there but it is awfully difficult to locate. There are so many different genres today and this isn't on top like rock pop and hiphop like it should be so it gets less attention.
@mehidalgo18 The closest thing to Sinatra Elvis or even Dean Martin is Michael Buble but even he's going to let the Music industry screw up his way of music
@RYansAdams79 well I've heard a few songs of buble, and I liked it. whatever its meant to be its meant to be. if buble wants to change his music style theres nothing we can do about it. just enjoy his good songs.
I'm singing this to my fiance on our wedding day! Went to school for Music Education/vocal performance and graduated in '08 and never use the talent anymore. He says he loves hearing me sing. Never heard me sing this one though. :P Love Sinatra. Louis Armstrong/Ella Fitz vers. is great too!
It's very clear Our love is here to stay Not for a year, but ever and a day The radio And the telephone And the movies that we know May just be passing fancies and in time may go But oh my dear Our love is here to stay Together we're going a long long way In time the Rockies may crumble Gibraltar may tumble They're only made of clay But our love is here to stay
I read that Gershwin's last words were of Fred Astaire. He wanted to work more with Fred and Ginger. The only time they ever did a private dance was for him.
Like to point out that Mr. George Gershwin looks a lot like a modern pianist-song writer: Billy Joel. If you bob Gershwin's nose you get Mr. Joel's mug.
I love this song, and I knew Frank Sinatra had a version of it! Do you know where I can find this? I have most of his records, I am a true Sinatra fan :-D I sang this song about 5 years ago for my Beginning Voice class final exam, I sang in his tone!! I got an A too, yayyyy :-D I do have a rehearsal video of it on Vhs, I should upload it!
Gene Kelly is my favourite actor, and this was one of my favourites he sings in American in Paris, but Frank is my favourite singer, so... this is kinda the greatest thing ever :) lol
Wonderful version. I sang this to my husband at our wedding. Our love was here to stay even after till death did us part. Today would have been our wedding anniversary so I was going through all the versions. Harry Connick is good. I only knew Ray Charles's version at the time of getting wed. Thanks for posting.

One of Frank's best, and a very tender song because it was George Gershwin's last. Ira Gershwin's words perfectly matches with the lyric's and outcomes a beautiful song that will last forever.
@Nocaro Its funny that this song was recorded on my 7th birthday, because its always been one of my all time favorite songs. Doesn't it amaze you that George Gershwin is revered as a great composer, which he most certainly was, but how about Ira as a lyricist. No one ever seems to mention Ira, but in my book its was always a combo effort, George & Ira TOGETHER made some amazing music. In fact, amazing doesn't even close to being appropriate. I surely wish there was more.
@bjclark1017 I completely agree with you. Both brothers were unquestionably musical giants, but Ira never got the recognition he deserved. To many people who love their music, "a Gershwin tune" means only George. Some have no idea that Ira wrote those lyrics or that he even existed, but I love him for those words. His heart must have been breaking as he wrote lyrics about everlasting love after such a great loss. Both George and Ira "will be here to stay" for as long as music exists.
This is one of the Gershwins' best, and no one can put it across like dear Ole' Blue Eyes. People are not capable of writing songs of this quality any more, so it makes it all the more important to remember the goodies such as this one.
Thank you for posting this one of my very favourite songs being sung by one of my big favourite singers..... I really love Gershwin's music he, wrote some fabulous songs. What a pity he died so young. THANK YOU again
I ing this Capatol release at Karaoke. G Gershwin;'s last gift before they operated on the Brain Tumouir that was not operable. Ira did finish the Lyrics, but Oscar Levant finished the music, as it was also incomplte this song was written for the highly forgettable "Goldwyn Follies" from 1938, Starring, Andrea Leeds, Adolphe Menjou, Kenny Baker, Bobby Clarke, and the unforgettable Ritz Brothers. A beautful song non the less. 5***** to you for this fitting tribute. Thank You.
ira did a wonderfu job in creatin the rest of a classic.... whatever he was feeling... maybe his brother inspired him with the hook............ira was w wonderful lyricist, .... its very clear, and his brother, a truly great composer!!!

Such a lovely version of this song. Yes, Frank is great, but Nelson Riddle arrangements are unmatched for this fluidly swinging music!

Frank's effortless ability to glide through a tune and his natural intuitive choice of notes and rythmic style makes this version superb!

Besides the Gerorge/Ira history of this song there must have been a Frank/Ava background in his recording of it in '55.
