Thanks a lot! I've actually started over pretty much from scratch - I actually used the original mesh as the base and used Blender's Retopo tool to redo the topology...I haven't UV mapped it yet, but I when I do get around to it, I'll post an update. Thanks again for the comments! They are always appreciated!
Thanks for the nice words, strgzr53! It seems I have all but abandoned this project, but I think with the coming new year, I'll be ready for an all new effort. I'm trying to keep my expectations low. We'll see what happens!
i have to say not bad at all for your first one. ive never played around with that program nor any 3d program, but for sure keep practicing and doing more and more dude. maybe some day you can put your own game out or create a mod for some game that already exists.
Hey, don't sound so discouraged! This was is my first attempt at a head...If you are trying to duplicate a real person, make sure you have good reference photos. Other than that, I learned as I went using tutorials and a few choice books. Message me if you are interested in more in-depth info! Thanks for your comment!
I use the FOSS (Free Open Source Software) 3D modelling, animating, texturing, compositing, etc. package Blender for my 3D work. If I recall correctly, forward and backward Sub-Surface Scattering was added as a shader function in version 2.44, so it makes any material that scatters light under the surface (skin, milk, blood, wax, etc.) look more realistic and less plastic-y. Check it out at blender(dot)org!
Thanks! I don't think my mesh is that clean, though...It was my first time doing ears. If I were to turn off SubSurf, they would look like crap. Not crap in the literal sense, but crap nonetheless.

Actually, OS don't matter much. Try and get a dual core with as high GHz as possible since thats what really affects rendering speeds.
