It was like this after the tornado hit my town awhile back it was at night and right after it went over. We went outside and it was just non stop lightning all night.
we had this in england about 10 years ago, was unbelievable. continuous lightning, light rumbling throughout with occasional loud claps of thunder. It lasted for approx 3 hours. i havent seen this happen since.
Unbelievable! I didn't realise the weather could behave like this outside the lightning-fest at Rome in 'The Core'! Always thought the science on that was extremely dodgy, now I'm not quite so sure. I wonder why the strobe lightning was confined to the clouds though. Has this storm been written up in the scientific literature e.g. Nature, Science, Scientific American etc?
Just 3 words: OMG, this was so intence, i never seen this lightning so intence in my whole life, what a wonderfull, wonderfull lightning show this was, un believeble, you did a supurb job my griend to film this, incredible, for me, a 5 star rate and a ad to my fav vids, again, briljant filming and a great show. Thanks for uploading this one.
Good HEAVENS! That's one hell of a lightning display - W O W. Strobe lightning! Have only seen that maybe once or twice in my life. 10 stars and favoriting!
@stormspinner1 You get a lot of this kind of thing in say Texas, OK, KS. I've seen it a few times while storm chasing. Still, always incredible to see.
Now this is a solid 5-star rating, my new friend, and I just had to ADD this awesome video to my 'Favorites''....((I know a very good friend since mid-1973 who taped me nice thunder on audiotape from Naples FL and Columbus OH..and he turned 50 right on 8/28/08!!!))...This kind of lightning is so intense..one can drive at night without using his headlights turned on....My 7/18/06-Tstorm video's also got lotsa nighttimed lightning with good thunder..wanna see it? Again..SUPERRR-BB!
omg so weird, this must be very common:) i recorded the sky today (August 28, 2009 houston, tx) and it wasn't in my immediate area, but it was flashing lightning constantly like this (no rain where i was but maybe it was raining wherever the lightning was coming from). i also recall from maybe a year ago, having a storm just like the one on this video.
If anyone else sees this kind of storm please video tape it and get it up on youtube. Also, be sure to hold the camera rock solid still or use a tripod if you dare; otherwise the video will be unwatchable.
@bisbeejim1 I'm so disappointed that I forgot to bring my camera out last night. In Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina we had an insane storm accompanied by tornadoes and hail. Constant lighting like this lasted here for about an hour, was the most impressive thing I've seen in my life.
This is absolutely magnificent! I watched all three of your videos of this storm and I was just blown away. I live on the west coast of Canada near Vancouver and we get maybe 1 or 2 thunderstorms per year, but where I grew up back in Southern Ontario we had them constantly during the summer. I'm enjoying them again precariously through your videos. Thanks so much for sharing... Dan
This is happening as I am speaking outside right above my house. I live in Arlington Tx. I was just looking these things up so see what they were caused by. weirdest thing ever, mine's not making thunder noises. It's just quiet constant lightning bolts shooting through the sky. It's amazing.
That was exactly the way this storm came through the Phoenix area (I live in Mesa). Like flashbulbs in a stadium the sky was constantly lit up and a sound similar to a jet created an eerie low pitched constant rumble in the sky.
we had a similar event but on a smaller scale where i am, only lasted 20 minutes. it was summer 07 n i was with family and i just sheet lightning and its was so erialy quiet, all you could here was crikets and the odd car driving past, but 12 miles away in a town called Taunton, it was like hell broke loose, thunder, hail u name it! we thought we where lucky! still freeks me out now, how peacefull, was like a clear night but lightning like a night club, 2 second intervals at most! Colin, England
I remember this night, it was a weird night. I live in Scottsdale and it was no stop, the power was out in our area and it was just constant rumbling from the lightning. Never seen this in my 37 years in Phoenix.
I was there for a family reunion being held in the states at my aunt and uncle's house (even though the hole family is in Canada, lol) and I was shitting my brains out that night, the sky was like a fucking night club, and I am not used to that, like I said, I am from Southern Ontario, and we never, EVER get this ,we get tornadoes, but sure as hell not this. Scariest night of my life, even though I love storms to death, lol.
This was the most intense storm I have seen that did not involve a tornado...and the wind darn near did enough on its own. That was one I will never forget. When you could see around the area at night with near perfect clarity...man.
Damn that I couldn't be there that time!!! That would have been the video of my life (my hobby: filming thunderstorms). Was is an absolute exception-storm that occurs once in 10 years or could I see more often those storms in your region? Thank you for that unbelievable video!!!
omg, i live in houston, tx, and during hurricane Ike, i remember seeing different colored lightning like this, and i never found out why this was so.....
After about 30 minutes of this I wen't and woke up the kids to see it! I'm in my 40's and I've never seen anything like it. Possibly a once-in-a-lifetime experience? Magical.
As much as I loved seeing this storm and loved experiencing it, it saddens me at the same time to think i may never experience something like it again..
I have NEVER seen anything like this!!!!! Wow!! Does this happen often, or is this rare? Awesome video! :)
