I grew up in one of the apartment buildings overlooking Devoe Park in the late 50's and 60's. No one left garbage around, especially around the church. You didn't need steel bars and security gates.
Hi @malfada22 I moved to Westchester in 1978. A few years ago I went to mass at Tolentine, a few times in before the recent fire, loved the sermons, heard the archbishop speak one time. My parents graduated from the high shcool in 1960, 61 Dave Walsh & Ann Walsh (maiden name Scannell). My father lived on Grand Ave, he had 5 brothers & one sister, one brother was named Bobby Walsh. Do you remeber them?
@cork1068 I attended SNT later in the 90s, but wouldn't you know I knew your uncle "Bobby?" I knew him as Mr. Walsh though when he taught me History and Economics in Aquinas High School. He was a great teacher and the funniest guy especially when it came to his Yankees vs. Red Sox beef.

As a young girl in the 50's I went to Sunday mass here, I always thought it was the most beautiful church in the Bronx.
