early 90s luminas. beatiful mid size car that with the LH0 3.1MPFI and tremec trans was a fast, well built, extremely smooth riding car with enough room for 2 kicker 15s and 2 inverted twelves in the trunk :)
Those 'tavern style' door handles were manufactured in GM's Delphi/Fisher Body plant in Trenton, NJ, circa 1990 to mid 1995. The high gloss finish was difficult to maintain and frequently individuals from our plant were sent to Doraville Assembly to 'finesse' any blemishes from the revealed surface. Trenton also supplied the seat adjusters and body-side moldings for many of the W-Bodies in the '90s.
No love for the Cutlass? You need a better song to represent modern American Muscle, and these w-body beauties are absolutely muscle cars. My `94 Cutlass will pace any 442.
GREAT Song Selection!!! You're right, as much as I LOVED My '92 Lumina Z34, '01 Monte SS, '06 Grand Prix GXP...they gave me enough HEADACHES! But all-in-all GM BABY!!
lol. I have a '95 LQ1 powered Monte Carlo Z34. No check engine lights or anything, but I'm always scared or certain that something is going wrong. lol. I love the car, but it throws a hissy fit worse than my sister on her period.
I bought a 1997 Olds Cultass Supreme SL 6 months ago and I love it! It has some issues, but this car kicks ass! Beat a Civic the other day and my car is stock! LOVE IT! lol
love the vid... I have owned a 91 3.4cutlass supreme sl, a 93 3.1 mpfi grand prix with gt trim, a 94 3.1 sfi grand prix with gt trim. my girl friend owns a 97 3.8 supercharged regal gs, i currently still own a 93 3.1 mpfi 4dr lumina, a 3.4 94 cutlass sumpreme sl and a 92 3.4 lumina z34 (my baby)
GM believes the new Epsilon platform can do all the W-body did and more :/. BS in my opinion. I don't think the Epsilon cars are capable of the same level of abuse as the W-body was reknowned for.
The W-body was Gm's mid-size architecture for V6 FWD sedans and coupes meant to replace both the RWD G-body and the FWD A-body. Naturally to prove it a worthy successor to the G-body, there had to be high performance variants. 3 notable engines were used in High performance versions. the LQ1, a 3.4L DOHC 24 valve V6, the L67, a supercharged 3.8L pushrod V6, and the LS4, a 5.3L pushrod V8. Sometimes the LG5 is also included but it was only a 2 year engine. the LG5 was a turbocharged 3.1L V6.
I had an Olds Intrigue that I recently sold. I swapped in an L67 with the HD version transaxle that came with it. My Olds had the L36. It was such a nice sleeper. No one expected how fast an Intrigue could be. Just one question, though. It seemed to have very tall gears, was this stock on the newer w-bodies? I was able to do around 100 in second gear. Not like any other car I've driven. You seem well educated about w-bodies and would like your input.
I have a green 93 grand prix se, gold trim & rims, and i'm gonna be getting a 2004 grand prix gt1 so i'll probably have to sell my 93 because i won't have room for it. And its gonna be so hard for me to let go of it... the 04 is a 3.8. I love my 93 but i love the 04 too and its faster... what do you think
Personally, I would keep your Gran Prix SE and just do an engine swap. It's alot of work, but worth it in my opinion. the most popular is the L67, a supercharged 3.8L, because it has aftermarket and just bolts right in. Personally though, I'd do something different, like an LQ1 (3.4L DOHC V6), LX5 (Oldsmobile Only 3.5L DOHC V6), or the LY7 (Cadillac 3.6L DOHC V6, featured only in the W-body Buick LaCrosse)
Haha, I just did an engine swap in november, put the exact same 3.1L engine in it though. It only ahs 87k miles on it. The other one was blown at 147k. I'm only 16, and my mom thinks it would be better for me if i got the 04 because it has air bags... i really can't decide though i am so attached to it
Then look for a 94-96 Grand Prix. Same body style and looks as yours currently, but air bags were added in 1994 I believe. I personally have an aversion to the 3.8L because it's so outdated with it's basic roots tracing to the 1960's and 70's. My W is a '95 Chevy Monte Carlo Z34, LQ1 3.4L DOHC V6, and yes, it had dual airbags.
I like the molding and bumpers more on the 94-96, and the interior. I also have an 88 iroc i got june 2, i'm never getting rid of that thing. But sometimes I like my 93 and sometimes I don't, I just get mad at it once in a while because my exhaust is stinking again, the engine misses sometimes too. I thought i need a new cadi converter but my dad says it should smell like rotten eggs if i do, but it just stinks. I got mine really clean inside, i have done a lot of work to it
since you just did an engine swap on it, I'd check the computer to see if it needs to be reflashed, or like you said, check the Catalitic converter. There's a number of things it could be. But it also sounds like you need a tune up... bad.
Yeah they do look a bit better. I've decided to get an audi a4 or a6 though, after i save up a few thousand more dollars. But that won't happen if i don't get a job damnit, it's impossible to get a job around here it's so frustrating
I will warn you. The LQ1 is a bitch to work with and there's not much aftermarket support, but it is different from what most people put in. The only person I know of who could do the swap is Mike Milzy of Milzy Motorsports in Ohio. Most people would swap in an L67 supercharged 3.8L since it's more powerful, easier to work with and has much bettere aftermarket. Mike Milzy specializes in L67 swaps.
I used to have a metallic quasar blue 1990 Chevy Lumina Euro Coupe. It was my favorite car I ever owned so far! I love the pics of the Lumina Z34's they are such sleeper type cars and are just about worthy of any car show!
thank god for mute. Where were the Regals? My ma' had a 92 Olds Cutlas IS w/ the 3.4 quite powerful for the day, but it burned oil from what i recall! fun car nonetheless
I couldn't find many good Regal pictures. If you have any you'd like to see in the video, send them to me. I'll be sure to use them in my next tribute. I may take a while getting it up as i'm toying with a new program. and the LQ1 3.4 doesn't burn oil unless something's wrong with it. (I have one in my '95 Z34). Personally, I'll take the 3.4 over the L67 3.8L supercharged. I like my DOHC... rambly sorry. I believe 3:06 is a Regal though.
from what I know, aluminum wheels were and option on the SE. They became popular on these cars later on with just about every model having their own aluminum rims. Now PAINTED aluminum rims are an even rarer option that was available on some models.
