PRS DC3 Guitar and Two-Channel "H" Amp

I've played this amp for a few hours at my local(Dan's Guitars Honolulu) and the "H" amp is a beauty. The overdrive channel is great and there a lot of tones. The CLEAN channel is the holy grail of this thing. Can be very clean to crunchy, clean with hair to big/full sounding, or you can get that clean but nasty Warren Haynes tone. I play mostly rock/blues/fusion, but play some classic jazz and 80's style metal, and this will be my next amp head. Way to go PRS!

Off the top of my head (to attempt to answer my own question:P), it sounds very much like, A.) bad EQing, but B.) it's like they only ever mic amps w/ a 57 slapped right in front of the dome for the peakiest, shrillest in-your-face tone imaginable. Guys, Royer 121 a few inches off the cone; make it sound like a guitar amp, please:S

I just got my 2 channel H combo in the mail 2 days ago, and it honestly is the best amp I've ever played through. These are a steal at the price. Doug knows what he's doing better then pretty much any amp builder. This video is absolutely a terrible representation of what the amp sounds like. Listen to any other video and you will be pleasantly suprised.

No wonder the lead channel sounded so fuzzy. The gain was maxed and the master was on 2. Maybe if he backed down that gain and bumped up the master, with a bit more mids, it would sound way meatier.

Have to say I tried this amp in the factory a couple of days ago and it was insanely good! Don't judge off this video cause it is not even close to how it sounds in the room or properly recorded. Head over to the PRS website for top quality recordings/room sounds it is the shit I promise you! There is no fuzz or mudyness to be had in these fine tone machines!! :)

I tried it with A tremonti, SC245, 315 and a Mira and it brought out each characteristics of the guitars like no other amp I've heard

I prefer any Suhr over this DC3 so PRS made a bad market choice in this guitar I guess. As for the amp goes, the lead channel sounds fuzzy as in "it has a built-in fuzz pedal" ;-| All in all, a wasted year for PRS imo :/

I have the PRS 2 channel "C" amp and I can tell you the overdrive channel sounds nothing like the amp in this demo. Is the "H" amp and the "C" amp that different? Maybe it's the way he has it setup? Listen to how low he has the volume in the lead channel. When he speaks his voice is twice as loud as the amp in the overdrive channel. Come on, you have to turn the amp up a little.

i think the beard kinda goes with Paul. makes him look less like Michael J Fox.

and yeah that's a helluva clean tone and you know the lead tone didn't sound all that horrible once he started showing it to you and changing the settings. i've heard worse. but keep in mind, single-coils aren't made for drive sounds and they're gonna be blindingly bright. plus, Paul isn't that great of a tone artist anyway.

also i've heard much worse... ever heard someone setup a Mesa amp wrong? yeah... just, yeah

@MattKimDemos I've seen 3 different reviews of this amp and while the clean sound is definitely up there with the best I have ever heard. The second mid-gain channel is very "meh" to downright un-inspiring.

Though I wonder what the clean channel would sound like when using humbuckers/coil taps and or Active pups.

But without that type of review, all I can say is: Next.

I am sure that you could get way better tones than Paul has managed here. I have played on PRS amps before and they sound much better. Also, keep in mind this is a video, in person it will always sound better. That DC3 is a killer guitar. I prefer the new NF3 though. The narrow field pickups are a combo of a P90, and '57 PAF and a Fender single coil wrapped up into one. Awesome!

I had this amp. With the master that low on the lead channel it's going to sound like that. cr*ppy. You've got to crank it up to 3/4 of the way up to get rid of the buzziness.

problem is with how paul is playing. you don't drown single coil pickups with gain and try to play palm mute rock stuff. it sounds awful.

I don't know... maple fretboard, stratlike guitars... it's just not PRS (I play a Singlecut by the way). Clean sound - very nice, but the drive... yeak. By the way this amp sounds great with Custom 24/s or the new Studio model. Cheers :)
