  • I used to have this on VHS back in the day. I have been waiting for years for the DVD to be released. This was a great concert with the great Diana Ross center stage doing what she does best. One of the greatest entertainers of all time. Come on guys don't make us wait any longer for the DVD.

  • Diana is well...Supreme!

  • xxx, diana

  • EXCELLENT!

  • So simple, so elegant, yet so so funky.

  • Great album. I love that concerts back then had full piece orchestras.

  • I have always wonder what made her so good? Don't get me wrong she is awesome, but what is it that makes her so awesome?

  • @kplife2001 - she just has that 'thing'..

  • @iralevifan I often wonder if I have that thing, but I really do not know what the thing is. That is why I ask. I know it is crazy, but I do wonder.

  • love the song!

  • THIS IS DIANA AT HER BEST

  • she looks sooo sexy

  • I love Diana. Glad to see the live musicians. Interesting how you can't see the background singers -at all....

  • @ribbedwon you do see them at some points during this concert. she introduces them as ther curtains part and they are standing in a row...all four of them. she gives them props.

  • wow Diana is so legendary she really is!!!!

  • Have this on laserdisc! Great concert. Not many new entertainers of this style of music can hold a stage on their own like her. They need all bullshit dancers with tacky moves to distract from their average performance.

  • my first time seeing this and I love it, amazing performance

  • Every singer knows they are not ment for everyone but this woman does not have to show body parts like other singers to sell records. This woman has got something others lack ?? CLASS !!!!!!!!! I have had the luck of meeting her in person. She is FABULOUS !!!!!!!

  • @musiclover77able nobody better not have said she can't sing.

  • @musiclover77able Yep. The utmost importance. Well, at least we understand that concept. It was nice talking with you!

  • @musiclover77able Of course. Way better a singer than Madonna. Older footage didn't always translate color well, regarding Black people. Plus, people show up differently in various lighting. Some folks try to dissect Diana's voice, skin color, body type, mannerisms, everything - for their own purposes. To the nth degree! Can't we just love her for who she is, how she sings, how she looks and appreciate her contribution to music? Is that so hard? lol.

  • @musiclover77able For real. Many are irritated, and jealous, that Diana as a sista couldn't be lumped into a particular box as they usually try to limit us in. Nobody sounds like her and Diana was exquisitely versatile in covering multiple genres. She's great!

  • @musiclover77able I hear ya, but 'soul' doesn't equate to good singing, if u meant that. Diana has always been soulful; she's just very refined, sweet-sounding with great diction. I'd say those albums encompass r&b tracks that require a lot more belting, though Diana does that on many albums. Touch Me In The Morning, Baby It's Me has some fine singing as does her 'Lady Sings The Blues' soundtrack. I don't know anyone who's said she couldn't sing. They're some lying revisionists or plain goofy.

  • I would love to have that outfit she was very stylish then.

  • Go Lady Diana she is so sweet!

  • Because she is such an awsome presence on stage i think Diana's vocals were sometimes overlooked, but she has one of the most fabulous voices of all time!!

  • Beyonce just recently stated that she got some of her stage presence from THE BOSS! So its all good, but understand this is where it was done 1st and set the bar for solo performances in Vegas!

  • @reyrey031068 yeah but with a voice like that how could you overlook it.

  • She killed it on this performance ! GO Diana...True Dive..Beyonce wish !

  • Diana Ross is amazing...I would so love to see her have another hit album.

  • KROLOWA!!!!!!!!!;))))))))))

  • I totally agree with you reddvelvet. A&S did make her sing,b ecause Valorie Simpson could flat out sang. Diana had to really work hard to sing in the ranges that she was asked to sing in , and I think she did a great job. This is the Album that's my favorite of all of her albums. It's too bad too b/cuz Motown should have really pushed this album. It's still played in my home.

  • was this the last time A & S ever produced her?? they were some of her best producers, along with Micheal Masser whose music defined her sound.

  • IMMACULATE!!!!!

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST!!

  • I've always wished that the album version sounded exactly like this one.

    It SMOKES!!!

  • WHATS WITH THE ARMS

  • diana always new how to make herself bigger and fill the stage.

  • woooo weeee!!!! Chicago deep house people STAND UP!!

  • Diana Ross is one of our Premier Leading Black American Ladies....She is due all our RESPECT!!! Always and Forever!!! Mo Luv

  • Wow! She's got some lungs on that opening!

  • That was a fabulous album, songs written & produced by the great Ashford & Simpson. Diana Ross was awesome on this show.

  • why did she stop working with A&S? they were ideal producers for her.

  • You notice that too, the boss album may not have gone platnium but id venture to say its one of her best

  • Most definitely her best album EVER! A&S made Diana sing almost out of her range. Listen to "The Boss"...Diana's vocal ability hasn't been able to reach that height since (1979). Wonderful orchestration and production. Motown should've pushed that album a little bit more. It should've gone platnium. My nephews (22 & 30) are in love with "The Boss." They play it over and over again. I was 11 years old when it came out in May of 1979. It's a timeless masterpiece!

  • its hard to say which one is the best, The Boss , Baby Its Me, Diana, and the Micheal Masser album to Love Again, to me are some of her best works. Qunicy Jones did an amazing job with her for the Wiz vocals too, she stopped working with all the producers who would make her work in the studio and her records sales tanked.

  • Actually, if you watch the "We Are the World" tracking sessions (available on the dvd) Quincy had her ad-libing and she could hit some amazing notes, but wasn't confident with it... hence it wasn't used in the final. I think she always had the voice but was probably encouraged to stay in her breathy sensual range (which excludes belting).

  • i totaly agree. im starting to realize how bith diana's voice really was when she was younger. especially on 'The Boss" album and her live concert in 83' in New York...she was belting out those notes on "Mirror Mirror"

  • The opening is the best, o ya she is the BOSS!

  • To those Flo/Mary/Cindy apologists, if you can picture any one of them strutting on the stage at Ceasar's Palace in Vegas singing this tune, you have one helluva wild imagination... Get it?

  • LMAO!!! Say it again!

  • funny as hell!!!

  • i had to buy this album today

  • At 24 years old, I am one of the biggest Supremes fans out there. As much as I do not like how Diana Ross treated Mary, Florence and Cindy, I have to say that quite a few of her songs are awesome. This is a GREAT one

  • i love the opening of this song. noboy does it better than MISS ROSS DA BOSS and that's just a fact.

  • The opening is really cool

  • Simply stunning orchestration and production; A & S have created an overlooked jewel !

  • Diana Ross is the best.

  • I really can't stand her but I have to admit that she's a great preformer.

  • lollll At least you're honest.

  • This was a fantastic Show.....watched with my friend Liza on HBO in 1979. Diana is an ultimate performer. Energy, love, and warming. The we staggered to the VooDoo Lounge. Lord have mercy.....

  • this was a great HBO concert, i remember it well and have it on VHS... thx for posting

  • do you know where i can found this concert in dvd or rip merci pascal FRENCH

  • this was on HBO? I didn't even know HBO was around then not to mention VHS. lol Our family couldn't afford a VCR until 1984.

  • I love this song and how she sings it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sing it girl ... go 'head!

  • P R I M E !

  • please someone help me find that cocert no one get the prize is my favorite song

  • FABULOUS!!! I have been wanting this concert for years. Thanks so much for sharing :O) x

  • Diana is in her prime here and her voice is dead on..

  • Another shining example that Ashford/Simpson were Diana's best producers! The brought the best vocally out of Diana, they knew that Diana sounds best with orchestration behind them.. This song is a gem and should've been a biggie for La Ross...

  • This Concert is on sale on EBay I bought one and it was a great copy..... Looked like a china release it had asian writing on the cover lol....... Go Diana

  • excellent, I wish someone would post the real video for this song from 1979.....

  • uuuhhh....there was no video made for this song...

  • I have seen the video/clip for "No One Gets The Prize" on Much More Music Retro a number of times. It had a year of 1979-Motown on it and it was about 3 minutes long (give or take a few seconds). It is out there because I have seen it.

  • Do you remember what took place in the video?

  • she was dancing and singing to No One Get's The Prize and it was pertty good with that late 70's video feel...I probably will see it again on Much More Music during the new years eve retro a thon...

  • I wish the concert was offered on DVD. Diana is absolutely gorgeous here.

  • Delbert, I think this show is for sale on Ebay, although it's not an official dvd release. And I don't know about the quality, but it might be interesting to check it out for you!

  • I purchased a copy of this concert on Ebay and it is super. . It looks like it was realeased in China or Japan since alot of the writing is in chinese/japanese! the quality is great!

Diana Ross for President in 2008

  • One of my most favorite Diana Ross numbers!!!
