I occasionally do some computer disposal for some ad agencies.....so half the the time they stick me with these boat anchors (MACs)...everytime I look up the specs for these things (for upgrades), I 'll end up in some discussion group where 85% of the discussion will be about whether they liked the computer case or not....that pretty much sums it up. and yes, having tried both (hell, i grew up with macs thanks to my old high school's computer lab), I can honestly say PCs are the way to go if you know what you're doing. A mac user is pretty much robbed of the experience of putting their own PC together, getting *exactly* the specs they want, and cutting the price in half in the process. That PC will last you a lifetime, updating part by part as they become outdated.

The fact isn't that you haven't gotten a virus, the fact is that you run the risk of getting a virus. Even if your anti-virus software blocks out 99.9% of all viruses there are still hundreds of thousands of viruses that affect you. Plus, on Windows, the internet is something to be feared. A big part of a Mac is the security that you get. I can honestly say that I do not fear viruses on a Mac. I have actually tried to find one and haven't been successful.

On a PC, we run anti-virus, updated constantly, so we are more sure if a threat would be eliminated . while on a Mac, you are only waiting for the storm .

The reason that there are so many vulnerabilities in the Windows OS is because they have to leave support open for many different companies with different types of hardware. Also, because of the versatile range of machines people use, they have to offer support to a lot of old devices. Macs don't have these vulnerabilities.

Mac has/had vulnerabilities, but they weren't taken advantage of before Apple close the holes. that's why there are updates, same as with Windows. though with Windows, a lot people use and target, Hackers/Spyware programmers discover the holes before Microsoft find and update .

The fact, every large program/OS can have bugs, and can have vulnerabilities. the possibilities are wide.

and that's all different from viruses, as long as there is read and write ability, you can create virus.

You aren't being an intelligent person and you are fooling yourself if you think that Macs get viruses. Is it possible? Maybe, in the history of my life, I have never owned antivirus, never gotten infected, and unless it ever becomes a problem, won't have second thoughts about going anywhere or doing anything on my computer.

You can't say that there are no driver issues, I'd be willing to bet that 90% of hardware is made for PCs. There are various incompatible peripherals.

I do think that OSx is pretty cool. I was recently using an old iMac, and even though it only had 32MB/ram and 633MHz/CPU, It ran Firefox better than all of the 1GB/ram 1.2GHz/CPU Dells

As for viruses,etc. Viruses have become more of a money thing than a mayhem thing. You can build a bigger botnet if its for PC since there are more PCs than Macs

Yes, Apple released updates to cover security holes. you can google that. I just googled that before i reply to you to be certain, although I was sure as I read that before. you can google, and you ll see examples. Apple updated Safari to cover security holes.

whether you got infected or not, it is irrelevant. I only talked about possibility. if Mac becomes dominant, it will get hell lots of viruses. Trust this, as long as the OS enables writing and reading, viruses are possible.

beside, some people misunderstand what is a virus. A virus is like a normal program but doing damages. If your Mac can't run a virus, then it worth nothing, it cannot run anything.

Though I'm not saying MS is better, Obviously I hate IE of MS on windows. but Firefox and Google Chrome competes with Apple's safari. but if you don't understand what are you doing, you ll be infected . and that is possible too on a Mac, if Mac become a target of viruses . but Anti-V on win make it safer

Mac is just based on a version of Unix, the root source of Linux. There are viruses written for Linux, albeit not many, but these viruses could easily be ported to work on a Mac.

With a Mac, you don't need to worry about viruses, but you do need to worry about people taking root control externally, this is a fundamental flaw in Unix systems, not present in windows systems.

Well Apple themselves advised users run anti-virus software. Of course they quickly retracted their statement for marketing reasons. Chances are if you need additional software to MS's Security Essentials, Defender, and UAC then you should also be running anti-malware software on a Mac.

In my opinion, viruses are purely the users fault (for not taking proper precautions). In that sense, it's hard say that PC has more vulnerabilities when it's really more vulnerable users (because, of course, the OS with more users altogether should have more vulnerable users).
