Agreed. Mr Sylvian deserves a lot more recognition than he gets. I am not quite sure what I would have done if he hadn't written Ghosts, then Brilliant Trees...and so on. There is such beauty in his work that can't be found anywhere else. It's so wonderful to have an artist who keeps pushing the boundaries. His work just gets better and better.
I will be forever grateful as I get so much from his work. He is worthy of every bit of praise given to him and should have so much more.
David Sylvian and all the other artists are such an influential part of my life and my spirituality. Please be there when I need you and I'll always be there for you.
In this song he almost slips into a transatlantic accent instead of the beautiful Englishness (ala Bolan) that we are thankful for, as it's not his song? Or should that be "piece"? Have you heard him interviewed? He sometimes drops his "t's" if he talks at all fast, it's very funny (I mean this in a loving way)... and like Bryan Ferry covers he has covered his working class roots well. We are all the more inspired by the fact that if you apply yourself look what you can become! And why not!
Saw the Festival Hall show,as well as with Japan and Fripp before - amazing! Trivial but interesting facto >>> Would you agree that when he sings "why can't you be... the way I want you to be" at 1.50 that this is possibly the loudest he has ever sung. Usually he keeps it laid back somewhat in every song, since he "discovering" his voice around about the time Bowie went baritone... he has an amazing tone which sits better when relaxed.
Great song. has he recorded this on anything recently as, if it's new, it sounds like Mr Sylvian is back on form again with something that actually sounds structured. As you can gather from my comments I wasn't a big fan of Blemish (apart from a couple of tracks)
I'm a big fan of acoustic music, and this is it at it's finest! Gorgeous!!!!! I've got goosebumps.
