Sheez, that was the best looking car! My dad put the Lowenbrau sponsorship with Holbert Racing and became team manager. Al was a super good guy, and a master of auto mechanics! I can just hear Dad and Al reflecting on that dream decade. May they both rest in peace.
This car passed thru several hands and I at least had the chance to sit it it and be on the track in my little BMW when a 962 closed on me and passed me. A thrill of a lifetime
I watched this car at Lagun Seca many times. I was hoping to see them in an Indy Porsche but as surfing636 mentioned, when they lost the leader I think they scrubbed the mission and yes very sad.
Very sad day when Al died. Not only was he a great driver, but an even better team leader. The contribution to motorsports is huge, his legacy is this fantastic car. seen the world over.
I SURE DO MISS THIS CIRCUIT AND THIS CAR. i USED TO WATCH THE 6 HOURS OF RIVERSIDE EVERY YEAR. AL HOLBERT AND DEREK BELL WERE SUCH GREAT TEAMATES AND IMPECCABLE DRIVING SKILLS THAT COMPLEMENTED ONE ANOTHER. GODSPEED TO YOU AL, THANK YOU FOR BEING SUCH A GREAT RACER AND MAN AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU RACING IN HEAVEN SOMEDAY...RIP!!!

Every time I get my car serviced at Holbert's in Warrington PA I gaze at, and caress this car. It has it's own shrine in the Porsche showroom!

Godspeed Al. Al lived two miles from where Smokey Yunick grew up, they were both giants of motor racing. That car was magic.
