Transatlanticism was death cab's last good album.. and everything before that was even better.... its when their songs starting hitting every gay teenage show and movie (starting with The OC) is when they started sucking.. Erm, they've been popular since they left Barsuk and made Transatlanticism. I remember when there were about 30 people at a concert, and now, it's packed and there's pushing and pot smoking. I still love them, because beneath it all, their music is amazing and I can relate.
I think that now, especially in Narrow Stairs, the band is too focused on the effects, the pop-ish sound, and Ben's voice [which isn't bad, but in the earlier songs, it was more focused on the music as a whole]. I think they've become too literal. I wish they continued with Transatlanticism's and Plans' sound.
@aiikedo actually its quite the opposite, they recored narrow stairs with tape and played everything live. So they used zero effects. Plans was actually there biggest budget production and they used a recording program.
Personally, Narrow Stairs wasn't my favorite, but I didn't fully appreciate it until I listened to it through as an LP Album. There's a sonic theme that carries through and creates something greater than the sum of its parts.
Personally, I love 'Something About Airplanes' through 'Transatlanticism' the most. That said, they are still better than 90% of the stuff out there. Change is better than stagnation.
You should learn how to morph images. You can bleed one thought into another that way, instead of the discontinuous jumping you find in your video. Also, go for feeling behind the notes rather than the primitive word relationships like the ones constructed and expressed. Watch Tim and Eric Awesome Show on Adult Swim if you want an example of the skills I'm talking about and the potential of video manipulation. You may have to watch a few of the 15 minute episodes until you love it.
For people who have liked Death Cab for years there's a noticable change of sound. It just feels like DCFC focus more on catchy chorus' now instead of meaningful lyrics. I mean, take 'I will possess your heart'...there's not a lot to that song at all.
I think that You Can Play These Songs with Chords didn't have those gorgeous lyrics (same with We Have the Facts...and Something about Airplanes).
Their middle albums (Photo Album, Plans, Transatlanticism) were a change from their original sound. So maybe they're just moving in another direction again.
*Btdubs, I second your vendetta against "I Will Possess You Heart"...I agreed to play bass on that for a friend's cover once. Eight minutes of the same basic line. I wanted to tear out my eyes.
I didn't like We Have the Facts myself, but that's just a difference of opinions. And I love the end of their new single with the bit about "everything, everything ends."
I hear that, but if you happen to be playing guitar on that song, the possibilities are endless! 8 minutes isn't enough (especially if you Space Echo delay) :)

I did. Most of it, really. I haven't read the latter books.
The first book I found to be very angsty and started out slowly. (Not saying that books aren't allowed to start out slowly, but I digress.)
I may have liked the movie if the actors could, you know, act.
I don't have any problem with people who like Twilight, though, as long as they're not screaming at the top of their lungs that they love Jacob.
But no, I didn't finish the first book. I didn't have the patience.

I read the books before the movie came out and i must say, i thought "hey, these are pretty good!"
i got really excited for the movie, but when it came out i was REALLLLY dissapointed
i thought it sucked. BAD
so on one hand i think the movies are bad, but i think the books are cool.
and what does DCFC have to do with twilight anyway?? is it becuz of the new moon soundtrack, because thats a good soundtrack in my opinion.

I don't know if it's sarcasm or not,but if it isn't thank you verry much people often give a bad look at me if I say I'm a fan of twilight and that stuff and like a wile ago evryone said it was so great I don't get it why everyone is so anti-twilight nowadays...but I don't complain about it everyone may have his own opinion^^

Nothing or noone will ever ruin what Ben Gibbard portrays on a daily basis. His lyrical rhyme scheme is second to none, as not even Twilight-which btw is quite possibly worse than watching spanglish or traveling pants.
