So Cookie Shaft needed a "gold" snack, a "light" snack, and a snack high in wires. Can't beat that! When this came on when I was a kid I could not stop grooving :-)
The creators of Sesame Street in the 1970's were doing drugs. You Tube Richard Pryor doing the alphabet, he was high, I think on cocaine. AND Jim Henson did a few scripts on Saturday Night live the first season, doing these monsters, and a talking statue. The jokes were in a sex, drugs, and farts. True story.

Of all the people who posted... am I the only person who can see the cookie metaphor? That some... or most of us men... would go completely kookie without,
Oh yeah and WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO BARKLEY!?!? My guess is that he got into cookie monster chocolate chip cookies, and that was the end of ol Barkley
OMG what a great clip...I laughed so hard...I think SS started becoming lame when a) Jim Henson Died b) they changed the theme to a rap song c) Big Bird stop being the focus and Elmo took over...Also about that time you had many SS imitators (ie Barney) getting A LOT of ink, so I think they felt they had to do something to remain relevant...Unfortunately I think I have to agree with Buck
@frankthetank325 Hit the nail on the head. Definitely Jim Henson's passing is what did they show in. His sense of humor...his parternship with Frank Oz (who probably had a WILDER sense of humor)...all those things were lost. Now the show is so dumbed down and politically correct it's ridiculous. Even little kids call it "that baby show."
He killed at least 99% of it. The other 1% would be the vintage clips that are still shown from time to time. Let's summarize it this way: No matter what angle you look at it from, Sesame Street is on its last leg. By 2015, Sesame Street will be gone, if it even lasts THAT long.
If today's generation had never known Elmo, it would be no great loss. If, as you say, Elmo has come a long way since the 80's, then how come he's still 3 and still speaks in the third person?
I just can't get enough of watching this - it was my fav Sesame Street spot when I was a kid! Too classic. Now he eats fruits and crap - completely ruined now
Gosh, I was just a toddler when this was on Sesame Steet. I guess the show had to cash in on the disco craze of the time by exposing even the tiny tots to it.
I am an 80's kid and I loved seseme street well into my teenage years (Yeah I admit it). I started looking up episodes in the 70's and came across this. This was freakin awesome. Now I know why it stayed on the air as long as it did. Seseme street is ok now but it can't compare to the shows that were on in the 70's and 80's and even some in the 90's. It will never be that way again.
If you think about it, George ripped a few things off Issac (maybe), or at least they were in the same superhero vein. But the chains and the beard are unmistakably Issac Hayes, like the cover of the "Joy" album or something
I am glad I was not the only one scared by this as a child when he comes out on stage! And the music was sort of scary (as a small child, remember!) Love it now. Go YouTube.
At 3 years old, this was my favorite sesame street song..It wasn't until I got older & found out who Isaac Hayes was & got into his music that I realized they were clownin him..Hillarious!!! You know your music is the shit when cookie monster does it..There will never be another.. R. I. P.-Ike..
OMG!.Cookie Shaft Monster now this is when Sesame Street was cool to watch as a kid.Dig the chains my man Cookie Monster has on LMAO,bling bling Cookie Monster.
As a kid I never understood the Cookie's costume (and why he had a beard??).... but now as a 37-year old, I get it!!! LMAO... a SHAFT sendup on Sesame Street?? LOL You'd never see anything like this today!! -- too un-pc. It's a shame.
the only thing i din't like as a little boy about this clip were those butt ugly lloking microphones under the three singing ladies. although at the end, good riddence, because he ate those ugly looking things! YEA!
