truth about nurses: the profession has so called horizontal violnce which means nurses treat each other very bad. They are the worse kind of raging bitches (excuse my language) you will ever come across as a human being. The next kind are black women. The are the two most misearble kinds of women out there.
@fornow100000 To fornow, stop blaming other women and other races of women for your misery. I work around RN's all day in the operating room, and some of them are the nicest people in the world. You remind me of the ones I come across who don't have much of a life and are vultures in general.........sad. I bet you'd never say any of this to their faces! Especially the black women!!!!!!
@wordsandherbs IF you work with nice RNs then count your blessings. Who are you? MD or surgical tech? Whatever your role I m sure you are cluless about horizontal violence. So many nurses out there are vicious bitches that cut coners and compromise pt's care. There are good ones out ther too---but they are hard to come by. Again, my personal experience hasnt been the best. IT also depends where you live --- each city has their own culture.
I have been a RN for a long time. If you like being highly stressed, putting dead people in body bags, picking up 300 pound urine soaked people off the floor. Dealing with insane docs who shit roses and walk on water. Working long hours and being a whipping post for everyone to lash out at, then this is a the career for you.
Don't do it. Nursing isn't a really "career". You will be used and abused on a daily basis. Save your money and time. You won't be respected and you won't be allowed a bathroom break and a lunch break. Those are BASIC human needs. Don't forget about the assaults and the hostile family members you will experience. If you are thinking about nursing...don't do it. Change your major/career. Its NOT worth it.
@told85 Wow, I'm a Registered Nurse and your comment is RIGHT ON! People are completely DELUSIONAL about this field. Not only do they not realize who crappy nurses are treated, they SOMEHOW think THEY are the exception to the rule and that WE just have bad luck or perhaps even bad social skills. I can tell you I am one of the nicest people out there and it only works against you in nursing. The patients can be bad, but the real stress lies in your coworkers..other nurses backstab SEVERELY!
WOW this is a great video that perfectly outlines our profession!!!! I wish people saw us this way and not just as uneducated women like in the 1400's.
Thanks for posting this!!! Although I have to say, i never liked working in the hospital much at all!
Im committed. if you think that you are not compassionate...............it is not late to change your major, but you love and think that if you do this, you don't just do sucrifice for others, but your own family. It pays your family off
Don't be discourage. Go forth and do the best as you can. I know nothing about nursing, but I am committed. It will be a huge help not just for your family, but those who need to be taken care. It gives you hard time, just think that it is a sucrifice for your family.
Wow Im doing my C.N.A classes now and plan on moveing up. I hope nursing is rewarding. Id like to be an RN in a few years. Im sure its hard, and the pay is never what anyone thinks they are worth. Then again I hope it is enough for me to live on.
Most nurses could give a damn about the people they're supposed be "helping". Shiftless, lazy, spiteful nurses killed my mother 3 years ago when she went into the hospital for surgery. If I was nurse, I sure as hell wouldn't go around telling people I was one. That's a sure way to elicit an angry glower from someone.
Here are the 3 things nurses care about most in life...

Or you'll probably kill a couple of thousand people because you don't like what you're being paid and get away with it because there's not a goddamned bit of oversight in that sewer you call a Healthcare system.
Josef Mengele was a doctor y'know... would you care to explain that?
i am a nurse of 13 years, it is a pure bullshit job, the hospitals just want to work you short handed, you bust your ass 12 hrs and the rewards suck. never fall for this vid shit
you must sit on your ass all day in a nursing office. i bet you are a fat ass lap-dog, kiss the CEOs ass so you can make a few more bucks than us bedside RNs. I saw a 24 y/o die one AM because of lap-dogs like you. drop dead lap-dog . now dont you wish you could go and tell on me?????
being that you are in nsg. school, you have no idea. and i mean that with no disrespect. sometimes you give so much to people that you have nothing left for yourself. and nursing keeps getting harder and harder. it's becoming more about the bottom line and less about pt's. 10 years or so, dear abby asked nurses to give their opinions of nursing. most of them said that it sucked, you aren't allowed to be the nurse you want to be. her answer was to tell us to quit bitching. just you wait.
gosh you sound so burnt out. is there something else you can do? hhc, or school. nursing does suck a lot of the time, i think the few times good things happen, erases the suckiness. but if you are that miserable, i hope you can find something that makes you happy. i think nurses often times don't support each other enough, it's a shame. if we worked together, we could achieve so much. i hope you are able to find something that makes you happy, and gives you peace. god bless.
a lot of the time it is. i agree, but it isn't all the time. i have done bedside nsg for 15 years, can't imagine doing anything else. will do so, until my back tells me i can't. i mostly do iv therapy now, picc line insertions etc. but nsg is such a hard job, i hope that you can find something that makes you happy. what people don't understand, is that nurses are there 24/7, doc's breeze in and out. pt's are at our mercy, and they had better hope that we know what is going on. it's hard.
im a nursing student right now, where do u suggests for grad nurses to start off? i eventually just want to work myself in the management field after some floor exp...
nurses if they are good nurses are wonderful i have had good nurses and some bad nurses i have seen more good nurses than i have doctors just my experience
I kind of want to become an ER nurse but I hear a lot of people say that nursing is the worse job... Is that true?
