Btw, used Springfields in HS but in college we drilled with M14s+bayonet. Didn't do drill team - 4 years was just about enough of that. Anyway, I was going to make a point. Oh yeah.
I'm sure thousands of hours over 4 years with the Springfield had biased my muscle memory a bit, but I found the M14 FAR more difficult to do anything fancy with. The shape and the balance were just.... not right at all to me. If anyone else who has used a 1903 and an M14 ever reads this, which did you prefer?
I have used 03, m14 and m1 and still find the M14 to be the most difficult to work with although I dont think it is as difficult as our perceptions make it out to be. The biggest difference is balance/weight distribution. In the end it is still my fav for one reason though - sound.
Didn't really watch any other solo routines when my team went in 97, but being nationals level and having had a near drop I wasn't overly disappointed by 15th. Suffice it to say: if the top placers had half as much bearing and precision doing similarly difficult techniques then they beat me even without the mistake. Also, if wearing military dress gloves isn't worth bonus points, it should be. Our team wore them for exhibition - but solo? No way. Rifle would wind up in pieces. Nice job!
Nice Routine of 96! Is that a Bayonet on the rifle or is it that my friggin cold is making me see things? Bayonet or not, it's a petty good routine. EXCELLENT military baring and NICE use of the drill pad! Can use a little bit more complexity, but nevertheless, it's a pretty hOtt routine! Good Job!
That my friends is a kick-ass routine 10 years ago that stands up to the test of time today as well...excellent variety, floor coverage, showmanship, very clean.....just a very well done routine that many cadets today could take a lesson from today...HOOAH! I'd forgetton how we used to have so much extra space before we started the 5th Unarmed team event! - Justin Gates, Competition Director, SNI
I like this sequence. Good floor usage (well planned.) Double arials weren't repepetive. Good variation even with recycled movements. I would have placed this extremely high at whichever drillmeet myself.
im in jrotc too and im in drill exhibition solo

I find it interesting that even though Fern Creek has their own way of continuous spinning, you do it in the sling-side fashion.

Always a feel thing for me, I got used to the rythmn of feeling the sling then the rifle a split second later. Habit I guess.

Not a bayonet, it's an M14 and it has a pretty long barrel, that's what your seeing i believe.
