  • @Owunthrizzel You raise a valid point, but I'm sure you are just as good or better than Arturo to make these judgments. It would seem so by looking at your channel. You play bass trombone. Seems legit.....

  • bass solo!!!!!!

  • Damn, who's that bassist? He's pretty funky.

  • @TrenTehGreat that would be john lee

  • Damn, who's that bassist?

  • That guy plays FAT sound, on such a thin-looking ligature. Not that I know any better.

  • 0 ppl disliked this :)

  • QUE PEDAZO DE CONCIERTO ESTE, UNA GOZADA PARA EL CORAZÓN, MENOS MAL QUE EXISTE GENTE COMO ESTA...

  • @dizzybird20 I'm guessing that's a Calicchio, but no way to tell for sure...

  • SENSAZIONALE DIZZY

  • The backin guitarist is so good in this! Seriously lovin his responces to the solos! Especially after arturo comes in, the guitar riff almosts goes oooooooo like woooooh there son what do u think you're doing?? Freakin love it!

  • I like when they show the fingers.

  • Ya, I agree about how dizzy can play all those notes. But seems like hes too old now...

  • Dang, Dizzy messed up, but its ok. Cuz he's Dizzy.

  • I like how Dizzy comes in at 1:55. It's like he all of a sudden found a fountain of youth during that particular solo.

  • Yo no sería capaz de decir si es mejor Roditi o Sandoval, son distintos estilos de ver la música y es válido 100%. Por otro lado a mi en lo personal no me gusta comer arroz todos los días, prefiero ir probando distintos sabores...

  • Dizzy can play all the notes Arturo can, but he just can't play them as loud.

  • mio dio sandoval......GREAT!!!!

  • Roditi

  • After Roditi's simplicity and warmness, Sandoval killed it.

  • sandoval the best

  • Roditi!!!

  • Claudio roditi genial!!!!! su sonido y su estilo de improvisacion es simplemente unico,,,,,grande roditi !!!

  • his solo kinda sounded like typical solos of Lee Morgan especially the intro

still a well played solo tho

  • He sounds nothing like like Lee Morgen, im amazed you would critizize any Jazz Giant in such a way.

  • There is not a more Roditi-like solo, ironsole9 you sis a fool. Lee Morgan? Really? Not by a long shot. jerec+1

  • Roditi the best!

  • I dig Claudio Roditi's tune!

  • I used to listen to A Night In Tunisia when I was a kid, good times.

  • thats a groovy bass

  • 7:11 cae una gota de sudor del bajista

  • I tend to agree with other people about Arturo. Sure, he has probably the biggest range, and makes the screech stuff look easy. But, once the novelty wears off, his playing can tend to become a little monotonous. That is why i'd rather play like Dizzy or Roditi.

  • agreed

  • look up Jon Faddis, he can play that range and lyrically at the same time sitting on one note. If you want ill upload some of his stuff

  • I've just started listening to him. His style reminds me a lot of Dizzy (when he was younger). His got an awesome range, and can keep a steady tone even up those high registers! When I first heard him, I could not believe what I was hearing!

  • @aaronentresz if it were a perfect world you'd be able to play like all 3 :)

  • I think Roditi just got pwned...

  • if improvising was just based on how high and fast you can play then arturo would be the greatest trumpeter of all time but its not. his phrasing is pretty dull. he just plays high and fast. ive heard him play some really tasty stuff before but he usually juat plays like this and he's not saying a whole lot. roditi is using sensible phrasing and a genuine approach to the tune. arturos just showin off his chops....yawn.

  • @Owunthrizzel Arturo does play very well typically and his solos aren't necessarily tasteless. But he will get carried away by live crowds. Most of his music isnt like this

  • @jerec576 Ive heard arturo play some good stuff before, but it seems like at some point in his career, he was more concerned wowing the crowd than making good musical statements. There are many examples of that.

  • @Owunthrizzel This was when his career started if im not mistaken :P

  • @jerec576 Well scratch that whole "at some point in his career" statement then. i guess hes always been a showoff pretending to be a real jazz trumpeter. im not saying he doesnt have a concept of the bebop language but its not what hes known for. Hes known for playing like this and its not that interesting to me.

  • @Owunthrizzel fuck you his stuff still sounds amazing

  • ok give me thumbs down... but if u know someone that can beat arturos triple A, above triple C, call me. Then tell me who ud rather play as. you do know roditi got payed less for playing 2nd trumpet because his part were nowhere near as difficult as arturos. Sandoval got about 3x of what roditi did.

  • Everyone knows Arturo can play. Quite frankly, most of us would give our left arm for half the skill he has. But personally, if I could play as well as him, I wouldn't play like him.

Arturo would be able to achieve so much more if it wasn't for his tendency to show off so often. Many of videos I see of him consists of just playing high and fast. It's amusing for a while, but at the end of the day, it's the musician who plays the music for sake of playing music. Not to show off.

  • And to play music isn't just about blabbing on about what you can do. Musically masturbating is rarely appealing for very long.

Also, take Clifford Brown(one of Arturo's hero) for example. You would have to be mad to claim that Arturo is better than Clifford. Sure, Arturo can play faster and higher, but has he accomplish nearly as many things as Clifford? I think not.

On a personal note. I'd choose my good friends over a over-confident asshole any day.

  • i'd rather play like roditi

  • to the ppl that said somehtng bad about arturo, u r such a fool omg lol@!!@ arturo is the best player of trumpet ive ever heard. in the end of the day, its who plays better not whos the better friend. arturo is the man.

  • Roditi est un maitre!!

    Quel solo!!

  • Impresionante Jonh Lee!!!!!!!!!!

  • Claudio rockin' out on the Monette. NICE!

  • gotta love his dynamic levels during improv too, he really shapes his solo!

  • I can't think of the name of this song can someone tell me. I've played a lot of times. It's just late and the name is not clicking.

    Thanks!

  • A Night in Tunisia, Dizzy wrote it.

  • Thankyou thats right he did and that is the name thankyou, so much. :)

  • I LIKE IT!! the answear is given by dizzy before.....

    he said TUNE ..... METAPHYSICAL......

  • claudio roditi is a monster

  • John Lee on bass!!

  • Arturo is a MONSTER!

  • It would be a crime if someone didn't ;D

I love his sound. It's quite rich imo :)

  • Hey, please, post the last video!

Thank you so much for this post!

    Cheeers

  • Arturo is more skilled than most regardless of his personality issues, but I tire of when he goes into those Flight of the Bumblebee-esque passages(near beginning, not end of solo) without any feeling and plays that 1/2 step 1 step thing over and over again, because he does that in every other solo he plays. I would rather he improvise instead of pull those dusty riffs...regardless of that, he is so beastly.

  • I agree 1000%! thats why i can't listen to Arturo's full albums. he is a very skilled player. but his improve's very pridictable.

    Elliot

  • I stand in agreement as well. He is a phenomenal player with great technique and sound, but those passages have lost there luster. I particularly enjoyed it when I had only heard him do it in two solos, but when you hear that riff again in another song and it is not even done musically or with emotion, it is disappointing...

  • I also agree, but that lick at around 6:04 was very tasty

  • I like to think of that lick as his trademark, but yes it can get a bit repetitive. Not that I wouldn't give anything to be able to play those lines!

  • just practice your scales, get a small mouthpiece, and play as fast as possible for a few years. that is what he did...

  • i`m just without words this videos are great thanks for posting

  • and the last video?

I love gillespie and his orchestra. Thanks for your videos.

  • James Moody deserves more recognition than he has gotten. What a marvelous player!
