damn you Summoning...this is too good for this world...oh well, it's made for Middle Earth anyway :) hope they'll start working on new album very soon, this wait is far too long now...
This is one of the most beautiful songs that I've ever heard. I'm reading The Lord of the Rings yet again, and I love having this play while I read. Aragorn's coronation, Gimli showing Legolas the Glittering Caves, the beauty and mystery of the Mirrormere at the exit of Moria, the glory of Minas Tirith or the host of the West marching to the Morannon; so beautiful a story deserves equal beauty of sound, and Summoning just nails it with Ashen Cold.
@Emanuelsson93 I believe it's Ancalagon the Black too, for there are only three dragons named in Tolkien's work, as far as I know. Those are Smaug, Glaurung and Ancalagon. Since indeed Smaug is nicknamed 'the golden' and Glaurung has no wings, this must be Ancalagon the Black, which was the most powerful dragon to ever have lived in Middle-Earth.
When I heard this for the first time in some way it changed my view on music. I felt that perfect connection of metal, dark ambient, classic music, ancient times, fantasy world and dreams in a single band. They are NOT just simple talented "metalheads". They are composers which I easily can place next to Mozart, Bach, Wagner...etc

7 months has passed since I was last time listening this masterpiece. 7 years will pass and I'll be still amazed with it. 70 years will pass, I'll be ashen cold and some new kid will discover how to run away from reality and drown himself in to dreamworld of Summoning.
I seriously regard this album, in its entirety, as my favourite Summoning release to date. I've never heard anything like it before. It's so unique and beautiful.
@Tomasznik69 I'm sorry mate, but that was probably the worst description of Summoning's music I've ever heard :D It's way better. It doesn't even have anything to do with that kind of feeling. Summoning is... <--- That.

Today will be a good day to explore the green fields of Vvardenfell.

@Morbid666999 dude you are awesome, visiting your utube page is like looking into my Itunes library, you are the first person besides myself who thinks Summoning is on par with Bach, Mozart and Wagner cheers!
@flatronl1915SLG Well, you can never compare art music like classical and popular music like black metal, classical is just too different in the method it's produced.
@killfeehelyDystopia Check out a band called Bal-Sagoth. It's not quite like Summoning, but it's another fantasy/black metal band and just as good in my book.
@SuperiorPeter i'm waiting on an answer. i DO want to know why these "kvlt kids" get snobby abouit black metal which is fast and brutal and then listen to shit that sounds like soundtrack music saying its "real" metal
@statetheobv nobody said how real metal this is, we enjoy summoning so much that we dont fucking care about subgenere labels, not even about his musical genre
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is shit. you guys all act snobby about bands like dimmu borgir and then go on to listen to this. it sounds like final fantasy music with a BM vocal LOL
What makes Summoning special and different from "normal" black metal bands is, that they are not just yelling, but creating a melody, an atmosphere, something...epic to go along with their message. Which is why I don't like most of the black metal bands and why I LOVE Summoning.
@oOWeltUnterOo There are a LOT of black metal bands that use harsh vocals to create atmospheres. Just search a little deeper and you would be surprised how many good ones there are out there :) But I have to agree that few do it as skillfully as Summoning
@rachskald No, no, you've got me wrong! It's not that I think the harsh vocals created it, I was also referring to the music and the choir, which are very special I think...I know, lots of Black metal band use harsh vocals, which I often DONT like. But in this case, I like them. No, I LOVE them.
@oOWeltUnterOo I should have been more specific - There are many good bands that use great MUSIC in combination with well-used, subtle harsh vocals to create atmospheres similar to, or completely different from (but just as 'pure' and powerful) as Summoning. Somehow, Summoning is quite 'popular' as far as this type of music can be, so people tend to stumble upon it sooner. Many bands just as good are often overlooked though, getting lost in the enormous amount of bands in general.
This is the black metal I like. I'm not to big on black metal.
But this is just wonderful. The sound, the instruments, the atmosphere and it isn't over-produced like all this new Dimmu Borgir and Lord Belial stuff we are hearing these days.
I've probably listened to this album 100s of times over the last several years. I may have burnt myself out on it, but I haven't listened to it in a pretty long time now. While listening to this song, chills ran up my spine. I used to always say that Summoning was my favorite band, and now I've reaffirmed that fact. Pure fucking magic, that's what this band creates. There's no other way to put it. Thanks for getting me addicted to this album again.
Wow im not used to listening to metal that is truly relaxing. Most "relaxing" thing i have is Insomnium. The ONLY thing i wish is that the tempo would pick up into that traditional metal sound at some points but that might be because im not used to it yet. Will definately be checking this band out.
This type of metal is definitely hard to get into, but if you stay open minded to it, it will cause some of the most amazing states of mind of your life.
You should also check out Nazgul. They are similar to Summoning, but also occasionally pick up the pace to a more traditional black metal sound, without losing that epic baroque feel. Their best song in my opinion is Solvitur Ad Elfmuth.
I just... love this song. It takes me away to a far, noble time in distant lands with knights in armor and towns full of bells and booze. Old castles. Town halls with old friends cheering, eating and playing music. The sounds of wheel barrows and their wheels turning as the next shipment of wheat comes into the town.
i lol'd , yet thought ur zoneout to this song is unique .. i zone out quiet differently, iwhen i hear this song'' and the rest of the album'' i ust imagine that am so far away beyond this planet if humans.. seriously this song shifts my mind !!
This awesome "feeling" of listening to their songs is still there... never goes away.
At least you agree with what I said though, and about the awesomeness of this song. You should never "lol" at creativity and freely expressing one's ideas. I stand by what I said proudly.
naah man you got it all wrong, i lol'd in joy to what i saw in how someone meditates '' zone-out'' so a certain song. for me? a melodic black metal song, or a epic black metal song like this one, or a death/doom or black/doom zone me out to worlds far far away, however it's always different, sometimes am in a rainy wilderness, sometimes am flying in universe..etc . the important thing is i get shifted !!
Ok sorry about that Aymanasad, you know there's just a lot of stupid fucktards on Youtube, even in my short time here I've dealt with about 23 of them. So I must have perceived at the time you were trying to be a prick, but I remember I was also coming up from a MAJOR acid trip... so my bad.
I know what you mean about the zoning out and the wilderness part. Sometimes I can imagine myself on like another plane of existence.
no biggie dude, i understand. youtube is filled with little pricks that have nothing better to do than talking shit .. and oh, acid trips are fun :D i was commin off of a MDMA trip my self , hahahah
Hey are you Arabic? Your username seems like you're of Arab background. My room mate is Arabic, he's from a completely different country and culture, and yet he loves this song just the same as I do. Summoning somehow seems to erase the ethnic and cultural divisions of music..
yes i am Arabic, and yes music in general erases cultural divisions, and/or strengthen them. weed has that kinda affect too haha .. i studied everything about sound engineering and when i hear an album like Let Mortal i simply love life, the composition is fuckin amazing .. the melody and black metal guitars and tempo and vocals ..i've been listening to this album since 2003 !!!!
I know what you mean dude, I assumed from the name you were Arabic, because of my room mate I'm more aware of things like that now. I even known one Iraqi guy who likes Summoning. It's quite odd I must say.
You know, Summoning has altered my perception of nature. I used to love green pastures and deep hills and huge forests, now I love fog, and trippy looking trees, and murky swamps, and I love it when the sky is gray. I also like rocky mountains and when hail and rain falls.
not many people can recognize arabic names, so am impressed you recognized mine, thats just shrinking the gap between our cultures. and seriously. i know people from china, india, afghanistan and iran that listen and love summoning, and other black metal bands .. theres a huge Metal scene in Arabia .. at least 300 bands playin doom and death and black metal and it's spreading wider .. yeah dude, Globalization!! hahah i've been listening to BM since 1995 !! i was hooked right after i heard Burzum
occupied Palestine. grew up in war, misery, agony and despair, so black metal and doom metal helped me release my massive agression towards the occupiers. lol, i rememberd when my mom caught me listening to Ancient when i was 13, thought i was devil posessed haha .. some days
I remember having to oreder this album a while back, hard to find good music in stores here it's depressing. This music is incredible, It leaves me at a loss for words sometimes. Long live Summoning !
it sure is ''in my opinion'' but never neglect the greatness of albums like Stronghold and Lugburz and Dol Guldur, However this album shows great balance between melody and black metal .. where other albums might have had more of the melody, or more guitars influence .. songs like South Away display some of the greatest guitar skills everrrr ... makes me fuckin shiver
@Naterfosth89 "epic" isn't a genre. I would say it's "tolkienesque epic symphonic second wave black metal", but that would imply that it's music, and I think Summoning have ascended past music and into something else altogether
There abillity of summoning to create such a diverse atmosphere than must any other metal or any other music is incredible to me. the production is sick i would never think of using instruments like they do... maybe im just drunk ut this song is easily one of the highlighted songs in my music collection
the mix in this song is soo epic... the reverb makes this prolly one of the most progressive metal songs i have ever heard with an amazing ability to create a mythic atmosphere
@akudal964 I agree,just amazing

I "lol" at your interpretation as well.

naah man you got it all wrong, i lol'd in joy to what i saw in how someone meditates '' zone-out'' so a certain song. for me? a melodic black metal song, or a epic black metal song like this one, or a death/doom or black/doom zone me out to worlds far far away, however it's always different, sometimes am in a rainy wilderness, sometimes am flying in universe..etc . the important thing is i get shifted !!
Aymanasad 2 years ago
Ok sorry about that Aymanasad, you know there's just a lot of stupid fucktards on Youtube, even in my short time here I've dealt with about 23 of them. So I must have perceived at the time you were trying to be a prick, but I remember I was also coming up from a MAJOR acid trip... so my bad.
I know what you mean about the zoning out and the wilderness part. Sometimes I can imagine myself on like another plane of existence.
deepfreeze66 2 years ago
no biggie dude, i understand. youtube is filled with little pricks that have nothing better to do than talking shit .. and oh, acid trips are fun :D i was commin off of a MDMA trip my self , hahahah

Hey are you Arabic? Your username seems like you're of Arab background. My room mate is Arabic, he's from a completely different country and culture, and yet he loves this song just the same as I do. Summoning somehow seems to erase the ethnic and cultural divisions of music..
deepfreeze66 2 years ago
yes i am Arabic, and yes music in general erases cultural divisions, and/or strengthen them. weed has that kinda affect too haha .. i studied everything about sound engineering and when i hear an album like Let Mortal i simply love life, the composition is fuckin amazing .. the melody and black metal guitars and tempo and vocals ..i've been listening to this album since 2003 !!!!
Aymanasad 2 years ago
I know what you mean dude, I assumed from the name you were Arabic, because of my room mate I'm more aware of things like that now. I even known one Iraqi guy who likes Summoning. It's quite odd I must say.
You know, Summoning has altered my perception of nature. I used to love green pastures and deep hills and huge forests, now I love fog, and trippy looking trees, and murky swamps, and I love it when the sky is gray. I also like rocky mountains and when hail and rain falls.
deepfreeze66 2 years ago
not many people can recognize arabic names, so am impressed you recognized mine, thats just shrinking the gap between our cultures. and seriously. i know people from china, india, afghanistan and iran that listen and love summoning, and other black metal bands .. theres a huge Metal scene in Arabia .. at least 300 bands playin doom and death and black metal and it's spreading wider .. yeah dude, Globalization!! hahah i've been listening to BM since 1995 !! i was hooked right after i heard Burzum

Where did you live in the Arabic world?
deepfreeze66 2 years ago
occupied Palestine. grew up in war, misery, agony and despair, so black metal and doom metal helped me release my massive agression towards the occupiers. lol, i rememberd when my mom caught me listening to Ancient when i was 13, thought i was devil posessed haha .. some days

My room mate is a Palestinian. How did you leave, and when?

Probably the best Summoning album in the world!:P:P
mariuslupercus 2 years ago 2
it sure is ''in my opinion'' but never neglect the greatness of albums like Stronghold and Lugburz and Dol Guldur, However this album shows great balance between melody and black metal .. where other albums might have had more of the melody, or more guitars influence .. songs like South Away display some of the greatest guitar skills everrrr ... makes me fuckin shiver

is epic music with balck metal reminiscents
Naterfosth89 2 years ago 17
@Naterfosth89 "epic" isn't a genre. I would say it's "tolkienesque epic symphonic second wave black metal", but that would imply that it's music, and I think Summoning have ascended past music and into something else altogether

There abillity of summoning to create such a diverse atmosphere than must any other metal or any other music is incredible to me. the production is sick i would never think of using instruments like they do... maybe im just drunk ut this song is easily one of the highlighted songs in my music collection

Melodies are awesome! But the singing voice is mixed too quiet. Still one of the best bands.
FinTex9876 2 years ago 3
It's made that way to give the vocals a more "far off-ish" sound, which adds to the atmospheric value.
guildwars69x 2 years ago 10
the mix in this song is soo epic... the reverb makes this prolly one of the most progressive metal songs i have ever heard with an amazing ability to create a mythic atmosphere
purplemarek 2 years ago 5
Do you realize this is one of the best songs EVER?
And explain what you mean by progressive. If I could die listening to music, I would listen to this band, they are sooo epic!
