  • RIP engineer Lynn Nystrom....

Sorry to hear that news... :)

  • Ain't that friggen purdy... !

    Thanks for posting that...

  • The honor of being the luckiest man in the world changes every time a different engineer sits at that throttle.

  • I dont know if you guys have heard yet, but the engineer shown in this video (Lynn Nystrom) passed away last night 5/5/2010. He is shown doind what he loves the most of all. Congradualtions on a nice tribute video. LIttle did he or anybody know that this would be his last trip. May god rest him in peace.

  • Possibly one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen! 60 years ago, it happened every day of the week, all over America! 70 miles per hour, and look at that valve gear!

  • what can I say , a work of art.....ray Sydney Oz

  • Man hes bouncing around a little bit up there. GREAT video!!!!!!

  • Nystrom, a swedish decendant?

  • those arent clouds in the sky, it's just the smoke the train left behind the day before

  • oh no, these newer 4-8-4 engines have 80 inch drivers, they can do 100 mph easy! (if allowed, but not in years past did they really GO that fast.)

  • The catalitic converter for this thing must way fifty tons and get as hot as the sun!

  • That thing is hauling some major ass!

  • Look out FedEx & UPS, now I can get my products a day early with this baby lol

  • wait to my knolege hiball was considered the stream bullet steam engine going fast that was what i read

  • REAL HEAVY METAL...............

  • Born in '58, steam engines were before my time but I must of seen a few for in '59-'61 we were in Salina, Kansas. Really grew up with the electric trains of Europe. But the 4-8-4 series of locomotives as in 844 here are amazing. It's interesting the different looks & styles. I always marvel at the drive linkage churning away exposed, and how it all has to be balanced to do that. Then there's the engineer & crew, standing behind that big ass boiler.

  • that thing is a beast!

  • nice keeping those old relics not just alive but running to great.

  • thats stuipd

  • Trying to reach 88 mph so they can go back to the future!

  • @chitwood73 lol Great Scott

  • Things hauling!!

  • making great time!

  • What if somethin broke on it :O i would be afraid to be be that close lol somethin might fly off and hit you.

  • @PS3rocksmysocksoff

They pay the expert UP steam crew very well to keep that from happening.

  • I live in Dallas, and I was told about this train being parked in Fort Worth the day it left.

  • this train made a stop in parsons ks not 2 long ago an he said that this train can hit speeds up to 120 mph! and it weighs 900 thousand pound!

  • Awesome video!

  • there aint no stoppin that mofo if your in front of it lol

  • All my life I've never seen an engine going that fast before, look at those wheels.

  • that bitch is MOOOOOOOOOVING!

  • What kind of fuel is used to heat the boiler on that beast?

  • @BadBamaJammer

    Used motor oil.

  • wow! that bad boy is pouring the power to it right? Awesome display of brute and power!

  • Incredible VIDEO!! Thanks for posting it.

  • Amazing loco, 70 Mph is that as fast as she goe´s?

  • @1339LARS track speed limit

  • @SkipW Hey Skip, I would have liked to see her doing 100!!!

  • @1339LARS

Speed limited by the track and track condition...

Most all of this period's loco's are able to hit 100 mph...

844 is a perfect example of the era....

  • @1339LARS she could theoretically go 120mph

  • oldman is just motring isn't it. nothing like a steam loco in this world screw diesel electrics

  • excellent very impressive... 2like

  • WOW!!!!!!!

  • An absolutely magnificent Locomotive

    wonderful filming too

    thankyou.

  • Highballs are always epic

  • wow you wouldnt think the ride was bummpy wiht such a large locomotive but when you zommed in you could see them bouncing up and down and the tinder behind them moving up and down wow. love you videos they are great. you are one luck son of a bean dip I tell yea.

  • Fantastic pacing! You and your chase crew have to be commended!

  • Wow! Awesome job capturing the engine's running gear at speed in this video!

  • This is great video, Skip. You got a great shot of the rods and the lubrication system at speed.

  • very nice video I was able to get a brief few looks of 844 on the way south before it arrived in Ft Worth I just wish I had time to chase it like this and do some paceing shots where did you pace it at I waited several hours for it to show up late in Aubrey Texas but it was well worth it and saw it again leaving Denton climbing Brickyard hill

  • That is dreamlike! Thank you.

  • Honkin'! I like the call-out of the speed. Great! ***** as usual!

  • i don't know much about the steam locos in the USA, but i imagine locos like this were very hungry for coal, does it have a conveyor system to feed the boiler or is it all done by shovel?

  • @Kenworth1986 It's oil now, not coal.

  • @Kenworth1986 These were originally coal fired, but some, as well as some challengers, were converted to oil. Coal was fed by an auger screw, as the oil is injected, of course by the fireman. BTW, this is the last steam loco delivered to the UP in 1944, and also the only steam loco NEVER RETIRED from the UP roster!

  • @maddennis55 thank you for this information, what an amazing loco!!!!

  • absolutely fantastic work friend, I am amazed at how good your camera zoomed in on the engineers! & 70mph! Great Job, best in the biz!

  • Perfect details.

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing! Mike

  • That was Fantastic Skip! 2 thumbs up!
