It's nice that RBP likes to use semi-historical equipment for this repertoire. Have a listen also to Rachel Podger's version of these sonatas. With any luck we will see Podger re-record them with Gary Cooper at some point--their work together on the Mozart sonatas was wonderful.
@AndSendMe Semi-historical? The violin is a 1770 Nicola Gagliano in completely original condition, gut strung/pre-Tourte bow. The harpsichord is modern, though, made by Paul Irvin in the 1980's, I think.
@pcienniwa 'semi-historical' with regard to the baroque. Yes she is playing on transitional equipment and that's great. I don't mean to imply that equipment trumps musicianship. But the equipment is often turned into a selling point and that coupled with the fact that there is anything from little to no precision about morphology among players leads me to quibble now and then.
