  • its only on JAPAN NOT to other country ULOL kaa

  • That's odd, the ATMs here in Miyazaki, Japan all have English modes you can select at the start (as well as some other languages sometimes). Nothing like that at this ATM? Generally, while I try to live most of my life in Japanese here (as a student)... when it comes to matters of automated machines that handle your money... I'm a little too nervous about possibly making mistakes... so I opt for the English there.

  • yeah - where I live is a little too inaka for an English option. For the five years I lived in Taisha, I was probably the only non-Japanese person who used this ATM, other than the random foreign tourist, but the chances of them having a JA account would be very rare.

  • Interesting, I suppose I just assumed that the JA machines would all be standardized throughout Japan or something. I guess not.

  • Just had to revisit this as I will soon be "experiencing" the ATM. :)

  • So you're wearing a tie... wild design, man... :-)

  • is it just me or is the recorded voices in japan all sound the same

  • haha - yeah - I think they hire the same woman for everything! :D

  • You are right. Keiko Nakamura(中村啓子) is the most famous narrator for ATMs/Shinkansen/NTT/NTT Docomo, etc.. many companies hire her because her voice frequency matches requirement for voice recorders.

About English announcement, especially on trains in Tokyo--JR lines, Odakyu lines, Seibu lines, Tokyo Metro etc..--a famous narrator called Christelle Ciari is voicing everything except for Shinkansen. You will be surprised to notice all the voices are the same on trains in Tokyo.

  • You make it look easy. I'd be so confused, I'd probably be homeless out there.

  • JET will give you a home.. :)

And my first few times I dragged my supervisor along to make sure I was hitting the right buttons.

  • I now know your code due to the sounds of the numbers!

Nah not really. Lookin' smart :D

  • great vid again, jason. I really like the slice of life feel. and that is some tie.. ;) LOL

  • I love how informative, yet humorous, your videos always are. I'm always excited to see that I have a new JET Vlog to watch. ^^

  • gosh - thanks! :D I appreciate the nice comment!

  • haha great video, eventually we will just demand you walk around with a streaming cam mounted helmet ;P

  • haha... yeah, I figure it's coming to that.

Instead of "The Truman Show" it'll be "The ALT Show." :P

  • Nice vlog, I forgot which vlogger I watch tried the 'english' option button and it didn't do anything -- might have been cooney

But I guess once you've got the pattern down it wouldn't matter :)

  • yeah - some of the big city ATMs have an "English" button, which changes all the buttons into English, but not out here in the inaka my friend. :)

  • roughly 220 big ones

  • Cool video. Never seen a Japanese ATM before. Nice *mistake* at the beginning. LOL! You said it so strongly too "This is the button to withdraw money" or so you thought. LOL! Nice video Jason.

  • I like the tie >_>'

  • and the tie likes you! :D

  • What mistake. I see no mistake. You did that on purpose for the avid Jason/JET watchers. *wink* Really though, thanks for the info. Is Japanese money bigger or smaller that dollar bills? I have always found weird sizes of money if I look and are you just using a American wallet or did you have to buy a new one? I like it is strange that a ATM would ever be closed, open 24/7 here. Oh well. Thanks again Jason. Banking vlog should be good. ありがとうございます。

  • Oh! I forgot to ask about tech. Specifically computers and such. You already talked about the voltage differences, but what about compatibility. You said you just hook your laptop into the japanese printer at school, but did you have any problems syncing them? I know computer language is different than the langauge it is displaying, but whatever. Also, can we use Japanese CDs or DVDs on American(or other) products?

And just because I want to see it, can you show us a Japanese keyboard? =]

  • Interesting tie Jason, very interesting! Really useful vlog, its things like this that are truly helpful. Thanks again!

  • Don't mess with the Beatles tie!! :)
