@KJackknife3 Ideally, both should be saved. How can we sustain more children in a world so polluted that the food chain is overloaded with chemicals? Not possible in the long-term.
@lordfhalkyn It's a deliberate mischaracterization and an emotional appeal. In other words, it's false. Which is why I'm laughing. Liberals can also make such false characterizations of conservative viewpoints, and I laugh when that happens too.
@dasunrisin You laugh, but it's true. We have laws against environmentally unfriendly practices, and laws sanctioning and protecting abortion (Casting Crowns views babies, fetuses, etc. as children).
This song has a lot of meaning. I'm so glad Casting Crowns wrote it! I know I want to be awake when Jesus comes back! I don't want us to go down in history as the nation with no room for its king.
A group of kids in our church did a hand/black light performance to this song. It was really cool because you could only see their hands (which had white gloves, they were dressed in black) And the hands did motions for everything. They made shapes and formed the letters 'U' 'S' 'A' when the song says "United States of America."
WILL we be sleeping during Jesus' coming? It's sad that we even have to ask that. I think we the church have a duty to make a difference so we aren't asleep when he comes. <3
I love this song it's on my Casting Crowns Album - Alter to the Door it's amazing! So true, we don't realise Jesus is all around us in every street, in every town, in every city... Do we see Him? Not as often as we should I think... Thanks for sharing

"will go down in history as a city with no roof for its king" ???? COME ON! for starters, this stinks of anti-semitism. I won't even divulge into the history of the Church and how this religion you have taken as truth has been changed time and time again in the name of politics and war. Are you intelligent enough to see the deeper meanings in the (much edited and mistranslated) Bible instead of taken the few books that remain as literal truth?
Como me hubiera agradado estar ahí, para dejarte mi lugar para que nacieras como todo un rey,,,,,,,te amo mas...... al saber que te hiciste humilde por la humanidad..y viniste a traer vida y esperanza,,,es maravilloso
"As we're sung to sleep by philosophies that save the trees and kill the children"
This statement is soooo true and saddening. This is what I like about Casting Crowns. they dont hold back. they lay it on hard. hope a few more children are alive this christmas b/c of this song. i pray this comes true.
I played this song on my ipod the whole time we were going through Bethlehem back in March of 2010. We were able to get permission to go there by the Palastinians since its in their control. It was quite a day. After that, we went to Jericho and the hills where David wrote the Psalm 23. It really is a dangerous area. One of our buses broke down and we were vulnerable to the robbers and the Muslims who hate Americans. Please don't take offense to that because even the locals told us this.
@chocolatelover1097 it could be a Christmas song....the birth of Jesus is one of its themes. it could still be played anytime, as a reminder to everyone, of God's presence and next coming...
i Love this song. i first heard this song yesterday on KLove in my car in the morning and i completely fell in love with this song! its so touching and so real. Im actually doing a skit for christmas using this song. This is just perfect. I just want to thank you so much for the awsome songs that are out. they have done nothing but encourage me everyday and always remind me who i am, and who god is and what he has done to us all. Thank you soooo much!. So far, this is my favorite FAVORITE song!
For anyone who desires a biblical understanding of the gospel and salvation, I would highly recommend checking out the scribd website that is listed on my channel.
"United states of America will we go down in history as the nation that had no room for our king..." NO I'll make sure of that, starting with my Youth group =)
saving the world would make a big part of saving the children because afterall don't the children live in the world and i'm sure you look after ur home ur world.....
Giving the countries a fair deal instead of growing cash crops so that the parents can afford to give the children a education so they get out of the cycle poverty. I study environmental studies and its funny if people cared about the planet a lil more switched off lights wen not in the room used energy efficent light bulbs, drived their cars 5miles less, bought organic if they can afford it, hoildayed at home
Its ironic coz thats the line i least like. I do not understand why people seperate the planet from the children living in it. looking after by default saves the children. Saves the children of indian by reducing global warming so that the sea level does not get too high. Saves the littles island children. Saves the children of china from the toxic gases of china;smog. And since obama came into power when has america cared about the planet.
the most powerful part of this song is the "save the trees and kill the children" because so many people today only think about saving the world and not all the children who don't have homes or are dangerously sick on christmas I wish more people would think of saving the children and letting the trees die! people are more important then the world!
I love this song my church youth sung this song in there play. Almost all the songs that they sang was by Casting Crowns. All but one song was Casting Crowns.

I FOUND THE ANSWER!!! (woot.)
I was looking through my copy of the book Lifestories by Mark Hall, when I saw "While You Were Sleeping" in one of the chapters. (The way the book is set up he pretty much just tells the story behind every song...)
FIRST I want to ask you to look up in your bible the verses Micah 5:2 and Mattew 25:5....
Ran out of characters (read next comment...)
JesusFreeeak 3 years ago
Wow. Verse 2 has been changed dramatically from its original version; they must have offended some people in Bethlehem. The original was better IMO.
1jandc 3 years ago 2
yes, it has been changed. I thought it was only to have another/better version of it for Christmas... I'm not sure...
buttafliegurl712 3 years ago 2
That could very well be the case; I was thinking about it last night and since Bethlehem is still mentioned, my guess is invalid.
Still a good song.
1jandc 3 years ago
Actually, the second verse was about Jerusalem, not Bethlehem; so it has changed, quite dramatically actually.
1jandc 3 years ago
haha. true.... either way, it is still a good song.-both this version and the original. :p
