Thanks for this, man. I was having some trouble hitting that chord off the G. And I honestly think it sounds better that way! You have to change the picking up a bit to make it sound right, but it works.
That doesn't sound right to me. I believe that it's actually a Bm shaped chord. The 1st chord before the A is a Bminor shape using open E(D) for the base note.
Man, PLEASE, do a tutorial on how to fingerpick like that (I guesse I've commented on a lot of covers of this song, but seems that none of the guys who can finger picking like that is listening!! LOL)
the picking in this vid really sucks as i was just demonstrating a chord and not the fingerpicking...
put simple, i figured out my own method of fingerpicking due to years of patterned strumming and learning by ear. its funny, a couple months ago i actually looked up some traditional fingerpicking lessons online, and they were crazy. i really sucked at the traditional way of fingerpicking. i would not make a good teacher
the original way sounds better. i think to make it easier during the fingerpicking though you can not put your pinky down and just not play the d string for that chord while fingerpicking.
well, yes. the finger picking is completely inaccurate, im not very good at another man's interprtation of the travis style picking. thats what makes smith's style unique. he didnt use the traditional travis picking method either. it was like a cross between strumming and travis combined with early folk picking. its very hard to emulate. but the point of the vid is to show an alternate Em which is more accessible from the G chord.
The chords?

Hm, to me it sounds more like E7sus2. Am chord form, fretted up 2, with E string open.

In agreement with Zach. He said the same thing (bm shape, open E - this is E7sus2)
The other chords demonstrated on youtube tutorials have a similar enough sound, though.

When i play Angeles, I use the Em that you use in the beginning of the song. this is for the guy who wanted to know the chords..(i'm bored)
1st chord:*Em variation*
002032
2nd chord: *A*
002220
3rd chord: *Em variation*
02443x (then quickly change to 00443x)<-then quickly change to 4th chord
4th chord:
32003x <- then just hit 2 on low E and start it over again.

I like your version better, do you think you could write out the chords you use really fast? (simple x32010 format or something)
