Wow, such innovative work here Diego. It's incredibly refreshing to hear and see someone working in this way, very inspiring. What kind of projects are you currently working on?
I heard an interview with you on NPR and went looking for this... and also re watched Sherlock Holmes... and will be looking for any CD's you might have shortly. I love that great crunchy sound you get in the bass mixed with the percussive stuff. Excellent!
If Dr. Frankenstein and Mozart were abducted by aliens and forced to make music, then you would have Diego Stocco. Awesome stuff, one of my favorites.
Ever thought about taking an Aeolian harp and combining it with a vibraphone?
Good music comes always from good artists and there performances. Diego is definitely one of those guys! Good job man! Very very cool! If you are in munih, whenever, let me know...
senza offesa e senza rancore, 'TACCI TUA! XD ho sofferto per il contrabbasso, ( anche perchè venderei un rene per poterne avere uno e poterlo mantenere )XD ma sentendo il risultato ne è valsa veramente la pena... grandioso!
At first I was shocked to see what you were doing to such an expensive instrument, but then I smiled when you started playing. It sounds pretty awesome, and it reminded me of the music from Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
Yeah, barely noticed you on the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood credits! It made me feel special when I recognized your name and the instrument. Looking back, though, I could totally hear you in the background. Nice going!
Diego, I just finished Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and while the credits were rolling, I was browsing Facebook on my iTouch. The one time I decided to actually look up was during the music. "Music By: Whatever His Name Is. Vocal Solo: Whatever Name. Acoustic Guitar: Whatever Name. Experibass: Diego Stocco." HOW COME YOU HAVEN'T PROMOTED THE FACT THAT YOU WORKED ON ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED GAMES OF 2010!?
Diego sei davvero un "cacciatore di suoni" dalla fantasia ineguagliabile...fai "suonare" qualsiasi cosa...sapresti far suonare pure una pizza margherita!
Its funny how so many people automatically associated this music w/ a visual component,i.e., movie or video game soundtracks. I think its great...but for me personally....this music stands completely on its own with no need for any visual context. Truly great stuff....I could listen to this instrument & your composition for an entire CD with my mind fully engaged w/ the complexities and subtleties.....just f-in' brilliant. BRAVO!!
What monitors/headphones are you using? Clean mixes man.. looks like a rode nt1k on the bottom of the bass? Love the fork as a percussion , again..inspirational

@DSSessionVideos When I first saw this video a good 2 years back, I thought: this should definitely be on a movie soundtrack. I guess I wasn't the only one with that idea in mind :P
I'd very much like to make a similar style video. I know this is a techy question, but how did you put this together? Particularly mixing the audio recorded through the Cam mic and audio captured through the DAW? The sync issues seem daunting - how the devil did you do it?
Discovering new sounds is one thing, putting them together in such an intriguing and fascinating way is completely another story. Ingenious, love your music!
Diego - This really is quite the most extraordinary piece of music and playing I've heard in a very long time - it is no wonder the great Hans Zimmer asked you to work with him.
Me? I'm just madly jealous (and highly appreciative) of you both.
Wow... and here I am only just pondering about making a two-string electric stick bass with all the old bass strings I got laying around. Loved the kick pedal on it too, do you have to go softer on it or can you really go whack-a-mole on it without fear of it punchin through?
that is the single most awesome string instrument I have ever seen!! i wish this was around when i took up the cello.... maybe i would have played for longer!!!
You are a true visionary in the music world. I was intrigued when you posted the Bassoforte video and i came upon this one. I love them both because they are so unique and amazing. Keep making hybrid instruments that nobody would claim until they heard them!
Love the innovation & pure creativity. Thanks, DS, for a peek at the process and an avant garde sound that's actually a pleasure to listen to. Please keep up the great work!
