  • Wow ....This really takes me back to my youth. I was born November 1st 1965 but I remember it all so well. I dig rock and roll music and The Mamas And Papas ofcourse. LOL ....

  • im holding the 45 in hand, its ppandm

  • They hate rock and roll music.

  • I think it's brilliant how the part about Donovan sounds like Donvan's singing/music, and the part about the Beatles sounds like them.

  • @Andrehippie12

    Yep. That's the gag.

  • If you listen to the words, it sounds as if the trio really didn't dig rock 'n' roll too much...

    Great song and impressions, though.

  • kind of cool a folky group throws in something like this. they did it good too

  • The more the years go on, the more I love this song.

  • Skip Prokop on drums

  • @charlovesyou42 Paupers!

  • OMG they mentioned The Beatles AND Donovan <3 eeeee!

  • I don't get what they're saying at all.

  • A dj in Detroit-Dave Dixon- grew up with Paul Stukey and helped to write the line "the radio won't play it unless I lay it between the line". Saying that they had to couch their words. Dave was probably the best dj ever in Detroit IMO

  • Only 13k views.. your joking!

  • This came on the 60's channel yesterday and my gramma was walking around the house 'screaming it and dancing. Talk about scary.

    love this song

    PS. I'm 14:)

  • @Beanabear122 me to lol :D and im 14 to

  • @Beanabear122 Here's hoping somehow you come to appreciate your gramma's joy, and maybe celebrate with her. If you do, I promise you that you'll be very glad you did.

  • If I remember, this song criticizes their friends for getting radio airplay, at a time when traditional "folk" music like PP&m wasn't getting played

  • When You get right down to it,The Mama's & the Papa's along with Donovan weren't exactly Rock and Roll. (I did like Both) And what did they mean when they said,'when the words don't get in the way'? (when they parodied the M's & P's) Oh, and for the record,I liked Peter,Paul & Mary also. Just having Fun here!! I lay awake nights wondering about such things!!

  • great song aside from the "i DIG!"...so lame

  • They sound like the Mammas and Pappas!

  • @1997Roscoe That was the idea!

  • The song is (sort of) like Creque Alley, which IS the Mamas and the Papas.

  • PP&M did a great satire of '60s pop on this song. Thanks for posting, Boz! I love their impression of famous disc jockey, Murray The K.

  • PP&M did a great satire of '60s pop on this song. Thanks for posting, Boz!

  • The imitation was intentional for PPM to sound like M&P, same with the imitation of Donovan, and of course, the Beatles. It was their point to show that imitation was the sincerest form of flattery

  • Sounds like Donovan in there...

  • I dig this kind of music :)

  • I love how Peter, Paul, & Mary dedicate this song per se on be1/2 of Mamas & Papas.

  • The little goof at the end - "Yeah, tell 'em St..." (probably 'Stookey')" always sticks out like a sore thumb for me. :-P

  • This is a great blast from the past. I love the album cover. :-)

  • Once and for all folks, this is NOT the Mamas and Papas!

  • 13 likes and 1 TERRORIST

  • @bhite41 Thanks to me,it's 14.

  • My favorite song by them. Thanks so much! R.I.P Mary.

  • My favorite thing about this song is when they talk about censorship. "but if i really say it, the radio wont play it, unless I lay it between the lines," i heard that they said that Puff the magic dragon didnt have any other meaning than the lost of innocence of children, but im not sure if i buy that. I know they have some christian slanted songs and had a lot of children in the audience in performances when they were older. i cant think of another song that they would have had to "edit"

  • @hippieveggiegirl Yeah... when I found out that there's a 'Hanalei Drug Rehab Clinic', I gave up on believing that Puff was innocent. :-P

  • the artist is not going to say they dig the mamas and the papas if they are the mamas and the papas c'mon it does seem reminesent of them, like their trying to copy the sound of the mamas and the papas.

  • Would the Mommas and the Poppas say 'I dig the Mommas and the Poppas' ? I don't think so.

  • You've got a point there. That doesn't make sense now does it?

  • @seosamhronan They were alright with singing "No one's getting fat except Mama Cass", weren't they? :-P

  • @pendragonshaw No it's Peter Paul and Mary. It does sound like them though.

  • @boswell69 Which was the idea.

  • @pendragonshaw No it's Peter Paul and Mary. It does sound like them though.

  • @pendragonshaw No, it really is Peter, Paul and Mary. They were often confused with the Mama's and the Papa's, and they even sing about them in this song.

  • @pendragonshaw - it is Peter Paul and Mary mimicking other artists in this song, one being the Mamas and the Papas. :)

  • @pendragonshaw Its totally peter paul and mary. hell, it sounds more like jefferson airplane than the mamas and the papas.

  • @pendragonshaw sweet heart...so are so wrong..............................what year were you born darling one.......I was there for it all....born in 53, cut my teeth on Elvis vinyl 45's, saw the Beatles live in SF in 1964, was at the Monterey Pop Festival where Jimi Hendrix set fire to his guitar......etc etc..........this IS Peter Paul and Mary, interestingly primarily a folk group from the earlier 60s who were able to change with the times and in this song pay homage to all the other artists.

  • @60sMODgirl Nice! I'm 13 and I even know this is Peter, Paul, and Mary.

  • @pendragonshaw hahahahahaha

  • @pendragonshaw No it's not. That's not John's or Denny's voice!

  • @pendragonshaw No it's Peter Paul and Mary. It does sound like them though.

  • @pendragonshaw: wow, you really nailed them to the wall! Your crys-tal imag-es will tell us about a brighter day.

When people like you tell me, I know they mean exactllly what they SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY OH HOOO
