I love the AU. Pitty you dont see the N.African states doing much. Egypt occasionly for the UN. And these are the top African militaries in Africa? No instead you have the likes of Ethiopia and Nigeria who are still trying to perfect their countries. But no I am impressed with the AU so far. It was incrediably sucsessful in Liberia. An achievment that no one should overlook.
@modjuye In the Congo you had the help of Rwanda and Uganda to take out Seko. In somalia you have had the UN (with african contingents), Ethiopia and the current AU force. In Darfur you have S.Africa, Ethiopia and about 5/6 other African states with boots on the ground. You have had ECOWAS protection in the west of Africa where they spread peace in places like Liberia, Guinea and the Ivory Coast. All those places are covered ;D
African troops have not only died for Africa,but have died in faraway places as Yugoslavia,Bosnia hezegovina,Croatia,Lebanon,East Timor,New guinea,Burma etc.Yet,nobody gives any respect to the fact that they stood their ground, fought and ultimately gave their lives for the UN.Its always the West that gets credit for the least bruise suffered in combat

You are correct but its due to internal politics in Nigeria. The Babangida regime was trying to eliminate the middle belt soldiers in foreign adventures inorder to preserve its dictatorship. It was also trying to appease the western nations. Both plans failed but many lives where lost
