No I dont think either of these have XLR inputs, but sony do sell an XLR adapter for it, that is also very expensive. The main reason Id buy one of these though is to get the benefit of the quality on board mics for convenience, rather than carrying around a shotgun mic in addition to the recorder. Ive tried cheaper models from people like zoom that do offer XLR inputs and their xlr preamps tend to be very noisy anyway
Hi there, I want to record heavy metal concerts with Sony PCM-D50. Can you recommend it because I filmed with a camcorder Sony HDR SR10 and the sound was really bad. Thanks already.
But it could have been. I've been using the PCM-D50 all during Fall '08 to record audio for marching band videos. An amazing piece of equipment for the price (and ease of set up).
Where this video lacked in audio quality, it made up for in pointing out some of the better features of the recorder.
Got mine 2 wks ago. Astonishing sound from this sturdy little device. Proprietary 'dead cat' wind muffler is a must! Also running EV 50N mic with Shure A96F cable (modded for 150 Ohms. Terrific, but love these 2 mics on the unit. Don't know who this guy on the Video is but I'd buy the Brookln Bridge from him. He's great!
i just got mine from buydig, $449 and comes with a sony mdr-7505 monitor headphones for free. for the sound quality and features, there's really no competition under $500.
I just ordered one at a good price from B&H. This video is obviously an excellent sales pitch, but at the same time explains details to the pro and semi-pro. I'll use it for field interviews, then dump files into computer at my favorite sound studio for editing into programs. Can't wait!

Seeing that it records Audio and you're watching a video, I'd say the chances are slim.

I hope this video was NOT recorded using that recorder.

I've started a user group for owners of the D-50 and the d-1. Go to 3wdotningdotcom and search for pcm-d50 or pcm-d1.
It's free!

A very slick presentation! GO SONY!
BTW, I was waiting for the guy behind him to swipe the D-1! A little diversion of attention and BLAM!
Also, no mention of this, but there is a handy tripod mount on the back of the unit.
Lastly, SONY might consider bundling a few extra accessories with this product, such as a FREE windscreen, belt-mounted carrying holster, etc.
But am I SONY CORPORATION? Noooooo.
