Nice vid, but what was the point of including the scenes of the sharks getting smoked? No sport, no thought. When Spearfishing is banned because groups like the Bondi Mermaids and their radical friends can prove that this stuff DIDN'T stop in the 60's, we've lost our sport in Oz for good. Its also top ammo for the same groups pushing for the coral sea marine park locking us out.
@AltaMirage Looks like the human is the top predator in this particular ecosystem. If no one ever took sharks they would overpopulate. People take enough fish from that ecosystem that sharks need to be controlled for the fish populations to recover, If you kill tons of fish, its okay to take a couple sharks so the fish come back. Wildlife Management usually encourages taking your legal limit of sharks. Do some basic research :) Stop making love to your trees and enjoy the video.
@drew5546 What a ridiculous comment. Only a schoolchild or ignorant person would make silly mistakes. Shark populations everywhere in the world have been in radical decline for decades. If "Wildlife Management" (which I doubt- please link to a site which supports this laughable statement) encourages killing sharks then they are ignorant of the state of affairs and the basic nature of ecosystem functions themselves. I am no "tree hugger". I've been spearfishing for years. You are an idiot.
@drew5546 As to your ignorant comment "looks like the human is the top predator in this particular ecosystem"- you obviously lack basic knowledge of what an ecosystem actually is. The ability to spear a shark or detonate a nuclear weapon in the vicinity of a reef or pelagic system, thereby damaging or annihilating it, does not mean that such actions are a part of the evolved system. They are novel, alien, and harmful to the existing system. Your ignorance is embarrassing.
@drew5546 A search of "shark wildlife management" with or without quotes on google shows just how ignorant you are. Try "management of wild shark populations" without quotes, for a real taste of your own stupidity.
wow that small storm u guys ran into while rod fishing looked like it was a hole lot of fun. this looks like the kind of trip you guys wont forget for a while.
lol...good to see the "snotty" weather didnt stop you boys from having an absolute BALL!!!...it looked like someone did pin a shark tho...gun comes down...lines up...shot off and the shark wobbles away...not cool mate!!! but cheers for posting the vid...
the tip was covered so the shaft bounced off the shark, just to scare it away. Spearing sharks is a waste of $100 spears cos the sharks bend them like paperclips aparently
haha yeh man going well acauly.. but lately we've had big storms its been dirty for a few months. pretty lame. Me and sum other lads r heading off gladston in a few weeks.. ganna be pretty good hope to get sum big ones ay
hey timmy im 14 love to go spearing my biggest spanish is only 9kg but hope to get bigger, all your vidoes get me pumped to get out there keep going with the vids :)
sickkkkkkkk video...that shark was friggin gnarly no??? those tigers are pretty sketchy but your right they are really cool to watch...looked like a blast
This footage was taken on some offshore reefs between 250 and 500km offshore of Queensland, Australia, in the Coral Sea. These reefs are close to the bottom end of the Great Barrier Reef.
Trips to these reefs usually run for 10-12 days, for more information you can go to extremespearfishing . com . au these guys run the trips and do an awesome job.
The shark was not harmed, the spear had a tip cover on it so it was just used to scare it away so it didn't eat our fish :) Tiger Sharks are awesome to see in the water but I don't trust them as far as I can see them.

What are you doing spearing a Shark? What the hell is the point of that? Pointless destruction.
AltaMirage 1 year ago 2
Pointless? Why? Why wouldn't that shark be eaten like any of the other fish?
drew5546 1 year ago
@drew5546 Because they are top predators. Please do some basic research of your own, before asking silly questions.

how did you end up dealing with the shark on the harpoon?
josef2424 5 years ago
The tip had a cover over it so it didn't penetrate the shark's skin, instead it just hit it and scared it off so it didn't bother us again :)
