  • Cool video. Speaking of which, did anyone hear about the sewing contest on the Fashion Fantasy Game? I tried it out and it was pretty cool.

  • LOVE IT!!! from a male rank amateur sewer!!

  • Thankyou! I will have a go at hemming my lycra slacks today. I did use a serged edge, turned and stitched down, but it sure looks thick and noticeable and 'home made'.Time will tell if the hem holds. It is so kind of you to give your time and knowledge. Gran Heather.

  • i hope i can find a blind hem that would fit my sewing machine...

  • The first time I tried the stitch, I grabbed a bit too much of the fabric with the cross-over stitch (the zig-zag), causing a ripple on the front side. So I took out the stitch and tried again, setting the hem to the right a bit so the zig-zag just barely reached across, and the results were much better.

  • Thanks for this! My sewing machine instruction manual had diagrams for the blind hem stitch but it made it look far too complicated! Right, back to my curtains!

  • great video. thanks for the information...

  • Which thread would show up on the face of the finished project? The bobbin thread, or would I want both upper & bobbin thread the same? Sometimes I just leave the one thread as a neutral & change only the color that will show. Thanks for clearly demonstrating this stitch. I believe it's called the "knife edge" where the blade under the foor rests against the folded fabric.

  • My machine has that type of stitch!! I always wondered what it was used for. I don't have a blind hem foot, but I wonder if I can still do it with some clever ironing beforehand ;D

  • I like blind hem stitches. Speaking of which, has anyone else heard that the Fashion Fantasy Game is now being sponsored by Singer Worldwide and Simplicity Patterns?

  • This was fantastic! So helpful!!

  • This video is brilliant! Thank you!

  • Finally a video that explains it clearly. I had no idea that you needed a special foot... no wonder why I thought this stitch was so difficult! I'd been trying to sew it freehand.

  • Terrific video. Concise & clear instructions. Thank you.

  • hi im making my girl a first communion dress and im just new at sewing but i gonna try it anyway ... can this stitch work out at Satin or silk ? thanks for you tutorials ...

  • *****Five Stars! I love this video, a great refresher for me. Thanks

  • I didn't need to use a "blind hem foot "I just used my regular foot and switched my stitch to a blind hem stitching...........

  • After struggling to understand the directions in my manual, I turned to the internet. Several videos and how-to's later, I found yours... and I hemmed my military dress pants in less than 30min! Most of the time was pulling out the old hem and prepping. A+++++++ for a clear and easy to follow video! THANKS!

  • Thanks for posting this video. I read the instructions in my sewing machine manual, but just could not picture how to turn under the hem. Thanks for the clear, concise instructions. My first attempt was a success!

  • Thanks, nicely explained for a beginner like me.

  • thank you for sharing, most appreciated.

  • Is it gay for a man to want to sew?

  • @mikye7373 LOL no it's not. I'm a sewing instructor and I've had several men in my classes. It's a great skill to know and actually from my experience, men are GREAT at sewing! Always very precise and learn very quickly. :-)

  • @mikye7373 why should it be? it's just a different type of construction.

  • @mikye7373 No, its absolutely normal............

  • I am taking a class at the local college at night for sewing window treatments and when she showed us blind hem I didn't get it BUT when I watched your video I DID.

    Thanks

  • Just finished my first ever lined curtain. This video helps a lot! Thank you very much!!!

  • Love the video. Question: I have a Singer machine. If I use the blind stitch foot, what stitch setting would I use to get the blind stitch?

    Thanks.

  • @poetryme1 I have a singer too, and I honestly used the regular foot and I switch the setting to F or E depending which side of fabric u r sewing on(left or right ...

  • Hi, nice video!

i am here to ask and invite you...

Do you have a jeans that loves and wanna put it today but it's so bigger and ugly...

    What you will do?

Look my last video, Trick - Your jeans got bigger? Don't worry! Decrease without sewing.

    ;) ***

  • That was very helpful to see a demonstration like that. Thanks so much!

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you so much. This was such a clear demonstration. I'm a novice and this was VERY helpful.

  • Thank you very much, I have done my first hem thanks to you. I used a Kenmore 16765 (yes, the pink one) with foot "G"

  • OK for a second i thought she was australian

  • This was very helpful....thank you so much!

  • cool. I still cant believe Im looking at sewing machine clips lol. But I cant wait til I buy my machines to make my own clothes. If my friends knew what I was up to they would so hassle me but who cares lolol. Im not gay btw.

  • Cool Info but whats the best sowing machine?

  • I know this has nothing to do with the video but you have a sort of accent I can't put my finger on..

  • Great refresher for me. I haven't done a blind hem stitch since my prom dress.

  • nice video - good information

  • My first blind hem was a success because of this video. Thank you so much!

  • Your awesome! Great Video

  • Thanks for the great video - I've been stalling on hemming my husband's pants for a YEAR and then came across your video when I finally SAT DOWN. Easy!

  • VERY good, I did this as a MAN with a pair of pants on an old necchi Machine WITHOUT one of those special feet (just the zig zag foot) its easy to test it on a scrap of fabric to set the stitch width lever to that you only have the fold of the hem following the opening in the front of the foot, so that the straight stich along folded edge goes 1/8" BELOW the next fold, when the single ZIGZAG tikking stitch appears it only "tikks" the outside folded edge of the pants hem,

  • This is an excellent video. Thank you very much! Also, the additional information about how one is able to purchase a blind hem foot is fantastic! I always thought I would have to buy a new sewing machine dedicated to hemming. Bravo!

  • This helps soooo much, thank you!

  • Was the hem pressed before sewing? And you make it so easy too, thanks a lot.

  • @vaimeaboy Yes its a must and definitely will be much easier if the it was pressed...

  • thanks!!! I wasn't grasping the diagrams in the Singer instruction booklet. My Singer did come with the correct foot and does the blind hem stitch-for those asking

  • Thank you so much - I've wondered how to do this for years - regular still pictures never made it clear - no, I'm not blonde......lol

  • Great! I had been wondering what that stitch was used for......... thanks for clearing that up!

and @Genesisfan: No-one's forcing you to watch this - go watch something that interests you!

  • Great! I have been wondering what that stitch was used for......... thanks for clearing that up!

and @Genesisfan: No-one's forcing you to watch this - go watch something that interests you!

  • Excelente explicación.

  • Fantastic demo - thank you SO MUCH! You just saved half my hair (I pulled the other half out before looking you up!) :)

  • Thank you very much for an informative, clear video! :)

  • Thank you for making this video :)! It's very easy to understand and you do a great job of explaining!

  • Thank you.

  • This was very helpful! Thank you so much!

  • Thank you very much. This was very helpful, especially since I was doing it wrong at first. :)

  • Thank you. So helpful.

  • Thanks for sharing. Maybe I can learn to sew.

  • Thanks!

  • Nice video. Clear and helpful. Thank you.

  • Thanks you for this. I have a brother machine that came with a whole bunch of preasure feet, and since I'm such a novice I still only use the one that sews a straight stich. I've really been wanting to use to the others but had no idea what they were for. I've also been meaning to hem my husbands suit pants for years (I know :P) but didn't know how to sew it without getting that seam all the way around. I'm sure my husband will be happy too. Thanks again.

  • @kamben79 may i ask what model of brother sewing machine you use?

and do you know if all the brother sewing machines include a lot of preasure feet?

    ( i m looking for a new sewing machine and i m thinking buying a brother sewing machine) : )

  • @TheLitleVampireBat

It's an XR-7700 computer. I got mine from costcos a few years back so it's probably an obscure model. But it's a great little machine, especially for my capablities. I'm not sure about other models. Although I think most of them do, the newer ones anyway.

Good luck with that. Hope this helps.

  • @kamben79 thanks very much ; )

  • Very informative. I have a blind hem foot, but never knew how to use it. Thank you.

  • Thank you so much for the video.

  • thank you!!! this makes so much more sense to SEE rather than to read in a manual.

  • I've wanted to sew blind hems for so long...but could not figure out how to fold the fabric - the picture in my instructional manual is not very clear. After watching this I did it! Now I am not stuck shopping in the petite section anymore!

  • very helpful ...

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing =]

  • Does anyone find that they have to loosen their tension before starting this stitch? I found that the normal tension on my Kenmore machine made a bit of a pinch on the blind hem zig-zag if I just left it set for a normal straight stitch.

  • very useful and well explained thank you very much for sharing

  • Brilliant! Thank you so much. I've had this very same foot in my box of attachments and not used it because I didnt' know how. Now I do I'll certainly make more use of it. So thank you for taking the time to do this tutorial.

  • cool

  • I love your winodow drape designes thank you.

  • I love window valences I love stiching my own fabric thank you lvoe your video!

  • Great video! You are correct in that this is how you blind stitch on a regular machine! And you would really see it on the front.

  • Thanks SO MUCH for the video! It's just what I was looking for.

  • Not everyone can afford a hemming machine. Most of us have normal sewing machines. And if that's all you have to work with, the blind hem foot does a great job. It is absolutely a blind stitch.

  • This is just what I was seeking. Clear and concise. Thank you.

  • Excellent, great job, very clear, thanks :)

  • jeniffer, u rock

    thanks!

    it was very helpfull!

  • thats awesome, i had no idea sewing machines could do so much.

  • I prefer doing it by hand because this stitch is not very Blind :) But it's ok i guess

  • matheya, it will be more "blind" if you used a clear or color-matched thread. The demo used a contrast thread so it would show up in the video. Also, if you have a lot of hemming to do this runs circles around hand sewing!

  • what machine did you use to record this tutorial? Thanks.

  • I'm using a Bernina in this video.

  • @DraperyIdeas Could you mention what model? It seems lots of people like this brand for some reason. Anyhow, thanks.

  • awesome! I've tried following written and picture tutorials for this and they confused the heck out of me... this made total since and works like a charm! Thanks soooo much!

  • thanks for this tutorial :) exactly what I was looking for...

  • very helpful!

  • Very well done! And you didn't talk to us like elementary kids. :-)

  • thank you!

  • That is one of the stupidest replies I've ever seen. I couldn't care less what her polish looks like. The video made my day!

Are you just a person that gripes about everything and everybody, or what?

  • This is awesome, I just bought the Brother CE-5000 and i couldn't understand how to use the foot. Thank you for making my life easier!!

  • wow.. thanks

  • Cool! We do sewing too :)!

  • Thank you! Concise and straight to the point. I never realised how easy it was!

  • Thank you very much. I just could not understand the instructions in my sewing machine book. Your video was clear and to the point. I really appreciate you doing this video.

  • Thank you SOOO much for doing this video! It was very clear and not so confusing.

  • SEXY DUCK !!

  • Thanks so much Jennifer. Just finished a dress.. needed this technique. Timing is everything!

  • thanks!

  • thanks :)

  • Blind hem mystery solved!!! Thank you, thank, you thank you!!!

  • thank you sooooooooooo much

  • Great video - really helpful!!!!! Ideal for beginners :-) Thanks!

  • Thanks!

  • thanks alot!!!!

  • I've been trying to figure out how to do this and always got confused. You made it so clear and easy, THANK YOU!!!

  • Awesome! I've been wanting to use this feature on my machine but didn't know how!

  • I can't believe I've been stiching blind hems by hand all these years! Your video made it soooo easy. I've always been confused about how to fold the fabric, so I never even tried to use my machine, but your directions were very clear. Thanks a million!

  • Thanks, I needed a refresher on that!

  • Thank you so much. I am making my daughter's prom dress and hems have never been my strong suit. This video showed my perfectly how to use my machines blind hem stitch foot. Fantastic, easy to follow directions and very well filmed. Thanks again.

  • Very good instructions. Well done!

  • Great video! Thanks for making it, I am beginner sewer and this is very helpful.

  • does "singer" have blind stitch foot?

  • I think so. I assume all major sewing machine brands have their version of a blind hem foot.

  • Yes they do, it's available for order on the Singer website.

  • Yep, mine sure does.

  • @mskatwoman022008 If your machine doesn't come with a blind stitch foot, you can order one or get a standard one that fits your machine. Some can fit a wide range of machines. Just ask at the sewing store or your sewing machine brand helpline.

  • oh nice XD u just teach me what was that stitch for

oh and u can also use invisible thread right?

    thankx

  • I think you could have mentioned a true blind stitch, that needs to be done by hand, which involves only going through the threads visible on the wrong side of the fabric and alleviates you from 'ticking' stitches. Good video otherwise though, I didn't know there was a special foot to do this.

  • That was well presented, clear and easy to follow. You're a PRO! Thanks

  • Very helpful, well done, nice and clear. Thank you!

  • thanks!!!

  • thank you soooo... much. This is a great video. Very easy to understand, you explained very clearly. This is the one to watch!!!!!

  • Hello!

  • Great video, Thank You!

  • Good video.

One note, there's different presser foot depending on brand. Not every foot look like this one. My one has a line that you can screw/adjust so it will be exact where you want it depending on fabric.

Also the stitch itelf can also be small zig zag in place for the straight stitch line of the stitch shown. The zig zag is good to bind the edge at same time if you're sewing with raw edge.

Even my machine from 50's has a stitch you can use.

  • Very Clear and easy to follow. Thanks.

  • Wow, I didn't even know I needed a specialized foot. You are an awesome teacher; thanks!

  • I finally understand how to do a blind hem stitch. I've tried so many times and just wanted to give up. Thank you so much!

  • Great video, very clear instructions, I found the written instructions that came with my blind hem foot were not very clear. Thank you.

  • Excellent video - well explained. Nice job! Thank you.

  • Just in the market for a machine for my daughter who has a lot of interest in sewing - great video :) Trying to learn some terminology and techniques to help her along a bit.

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH for this helpful video!

  • This is a helpful video, but you don't have to have a blind hem foot. I have done blind hems for years and have never owned a blind hem foot. The standard foot will work.

  • This video is a life-saver. I was struggling to read written directions on blind hem stitching, but they were so difficult to follow. Thank you so much!

  • I was happy until you said sewing machine...I want to make a costume, but i don't have a sewing machine! my mom wont buy me one cause they're expensive, just to make some stuff!

  • Thank you! I'm still a beginner and your video was definitely the most helpful lesson I've found for blind hems. Thanks!!

  • thank you so much!!

  • Thank you very much. I know feel confident enough to shorten my pants myself and I'll definitely try the hem stitch.

  • WOW! Thanks for that video! You made it look FAR easier than my sewing book describes it. I am a visual learner and You Tube has changed the way we can learn. Sad to know there are so many bad and stupid things on YouTube - but I am thankful for lessons like yours!

  • Thank you for showing!

  • Brilliant - this has never made sense to me before! Good, clear instructions.

  • I concur!! Thanks so much!

  • Crap Im borrowing my aunts sewing machine, so I can hem two trousers, they need blind stitching, from this video you need a specific head and stitch setting which my machine does not have. I guess im going have to take it to the local alterations shop which will cost me around $30.

  • dang i need a new foot brb

  • Great video! Thanks, I'm going to go and try it out now.

  • Good job Jennifer! I've favorited this.

  • I found your videos extremely helpful. Excellent demontstration. Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you sooo much! I, too, have been reading instructions for several hours and just couldn't 'get' it.

  • You should always do finger stretches before fooling around with a blind hem foot guide

  • your the best .. thanks for the tip .. so far the best hem stitch on youtube

  • I thought the instructor was okay but missed a few points. When she referred to the blind hem stitch, the camera should have panned to the stitch panel on theee Bernina sewing machine to shown what that stitch looks like. Also she should brush up on her references to clear state that it's the fashion fabric that is face up on down depending on where she was in the instruction.

  • Thanks for this great info. As a sewing novice, I need all the help I can get. Appreciate it!

  • Thank you. I always wondered what that setting was for.

  • Great video! Helped me LOADS, much better than the manual that came with my machine.

  • Wow!! That was great! I have been puzzling of this for hours... The instructions in my manual were useless, and seeing it done live was very helpful!!

  • THANK YOU!! This was very easy to understand, and very helpful! My husband's uniform pants will be so much nicer now! :)

  • thank you! the illustration in my sewing manual did nothing for me :) but this really made a lot of sense.

  • I'll watch this a few hundred times, BUT I found the music distracting. Finally got smart enough to turn my speaker down. haha THANK you!

  • that was great, clear and concise! thank you

  • Thanks Jenifer

You not only made it very simple for a new sewer, but the quality of the video was very professional. Everything was well done. the lighting and the sound quality was also perfectly done. And most important you hand did not blocked sew foot on the machine, as is the case in most videos.

    Thanks Again

    Jim

  • That makes a lot more sense than the illistration in my sewing manual. Thank You!
