@truvianni It was a very good WC as far as i can see it both i terms of football and organisation. A perfect final for two best teams at that time. Though we missed Cruyff, Argentina really deserved that WC. They played scintillating football throughout the tournament.

@lakshman4u I would not say they really deserved to win as I can also the Dutch as being deserved winners yet Argentina did have certain unfair advantages which today would not be permited.They got to play against Peru after Brazil had already played against Poland,knowing by how many goals they needed to win.Today both these games would have been played at the same time and I am not even talkiing about rumors of brivery against Peru which has never been proven yet never disproven either.

I remember this match well. A very difficult match to referee. I suppose the delayed start didn't help ther players. A lot of chances for both teams and the atmosphere was at boiling point before kick off. Difficult match for thr ref.

Rudi Krol, Holland captain should have refused to shake hands with Passarella after the dirty mind games he played against Van Der Kerkhof's hand plaster. Mind you, he had played with the same plaster in the last 5 games, and not a single team had objected to it. First Argentine team was late for 5 minutes, and then they began to bitch about a non-issue. That speaks volumes about their self-confidence in defeating Holland fair and square! Doesn't it ?!! What about the Argentinian defenders just jumping up and catching through balls and the referee doesn't even bother to give them a yellow card - Argentina had a good side in 1978 but in this game they played dirty when it suited them and also had a lot of luck - Holland deserved to win it.

I could'nt agree with you more. If only that last minute shot by Rensenbrink had touched the net, instead of hitting the post, Holland could have been deservedly become world champion. For me, they were the best team in 1974, and 1978 world cups.
