Their only difference is that Sephiroth was frozen in the depths of the Whirlwind Maze since Zack Fair dropped him in the "waterway" of Mako during the Nibelheim Incident. Thus, JENOVA awoke when she noticed that Cloud was near her, morphed into Sephiroth (this ability can be seen in the WM too) and broke out of the Shin-Ra building, wishing to control Cloud into obtaining the Black Materia for Sephiroth. @Trickster242 : Well I was kinda off when I said Jenova is the main antagonist but they are not definitely the same. Sephiroth and Jenova are separate beings, but Sephiroth was 'surfing' the lifestream for years while gaining ancient knowledge and powers, that way he could recreate a body for himself in the crater and with his new gained powers he was able to control Jenova. Jenova, well I don't know it awoke when cloud passed by at Shinra Building, but maybe because the 'reunion' started.
sort of... it's like... I mean... the cetra refer to jenova as a male, so she is suposed to be he.... but if that's the case I wonder why kadaj is looking for his mummy and not hes daddy....
And yet if you've seen Jenova's full body, you can see the feminine figures. So maybe the Cetra never got a good look at Jenova before it destroyed them.
But if it did infect a Cetra female then why would they still call JENOVA a male? You'd think they'd instead call JENOVA "it" to refer it as a virus or still call it a "her" due to the body it infected. I still think JENOVA was a female alien lifeform able to change its shape but preferred the feminine body (until Sephiroth took off her head and started using her body parts for the monsters).
@Golan7 Sephiroth never took off her head, he was frozen in the Whirlwind Maze since the Nibelheim Incident. JENOVA shape-shifted into Sephiroth when she noticed that Cloud was also in the Shin-Ra Building and thus could follow her, so that she and Sephiroth could manipulate him to get the Black Materia and give it to him using a mental breakdown, revealing the truth behind the Nibelheim Incident and all that. JENOVA did the whole thing in the game, Sephiroth was only the mastermind.
Actually, Sephiroth did cut of JENOVA's head back at the Nibelhiem reactor (it was shown either in a cutscene in Crisis Core or in the Before Crisis anime, I can't remember).
@Golan7 Ahh yes, I'm sorry. I thought you were saying that Sephiroth broke in the Shin-Ra labs and took JENOVA. I guess I forgot he cut her head on the Nibelheim Incident, lol. And yeah, it was show in... both of them, plus the original one, if my memory doesn't fail.
original was better. that's my opinion.
