Good music never dies.. When you enjoy listening to a song that`s 50 years old you know it`s good.. I doubt anyone will be listening to Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber just 5 years from now
so many people say today's music is crap and older stuff from the 1950's -1980's is what's worth listening to. i agree and have to say that making great music is rare anymore if not a lost art.
I'm 11, and I love this song. My brother, who is the select boy a Capella group at his high school, sang this for the Fall concert. :) Best song ever.
my dad would play this and other 50's songs all day, and im only 15 but man, the effort put into this compared to todays music really shows...long live old music !
This song is amazing. My dad turned me on to this stuff because he lived it in the 50's. So many bands borrow from this and they don't even know it. Check out "Creep" by Radiohead and imagine it being done doo woop style. Fits don't it?
I think I prefer the four seasons singing it with frankie valli but the rays have a higher clarity of recording. Does anyone have a decent one by the 4 seasons?
@Menderfire9 If you have that research study in print I'll love to read that, if not, thanks for sharing that.
Scientifically, it does make sense. Making those senior citizens dig deep into their mamilian (emotional brian) can surge positive emotional energy from their youth!
This same positive emotional energy hits us when we relive great songs, or films from our past!
I read about an experiment done in 1990: A dozen couples spent an entire summer on a college campus totally outfitted like the 1950's. The couples age 70+ all had serious health problems. For three months they wore only 1950's style clothes, ate old fashioned meals, danced and listened exclusively to music of that era and watched only the tv programs of that era. All of them increased their health, vitality, fitness and happiness to a remarkable degree. Smart, fun anti aging program!
ah,great..... and for you youngsters... just remember..they did not have all that fancy studio crap back then. Just great to see so many younger folks enjoying this music.... LOL... maybe you were concieved on a down STROKE... all the the bettter... Highlander here, 65 and still going strong.. Love you guys...
Great song! Im only 15 years old and I can't stand this music now a days I wont even consider it music! This is what music is really all about Wish I can go back to these years.
@deniseemelierose I LOVE both of those songs. But I never knew the story behind "No Reply" which is funny, 'cuz I thought I knew everything about the Beatles. They're my fav group!
@newyorkyankee1953 Even better was being 13 (in New York), in 1955; the year 'it all began' (roughly, the start of the so-called 'Rock N' Roll Era, that is).
Took a walk and passed your house Late last night All the shades were pulled and drawn Way down tight From within, a dim light cast Two silhouettes on the shade Oh, what a lovely couple they ma-ade Put his arms around your waist Held you tight Kisses I could almost taste In the night Wondered why I'm not the guy Whose silhouette's on the shade I couldn't hide the tears in my eye-eyes Silhouettes (silhouettes) Silhouettes (silhouettes) Silhouettes (silhouettes) Ty-oh, oh-oh
Heard this in jersey boys. Im 13 and a half and i cant get enough of the four seasons. I have rock in my blood and get my taste in music from my mother. I will NEVER listen to this stupid hip hop crap thats on the radio these days. Love the 60's and 50's and i was born in '98. Hahah
you're 14 and you like this? That is awesome! I learned this at my mother's knee and I have always loved it and it's not just this song but this genre of song
I recall the Herman's Hermits 1960's version but this is the class original I heard age 11 and I thought I'd never hear it again as the 78 of the g/f of my big brother was accidentally broken a good few years back. Thanks very much for putting it on - great.

reminds me of my daddy. i miss him. gonna be 15 years he left this earth and it feels like it just happened. RIP daddy. You will always be in my heart.
Sorry my reference should have been "I Almost Lost My Mind" which was covered by many artists. It starts with "When I lost my baby" not "since I lost my baby" which was a Temptations hit recorded much later.
I was a little kid when this song was popular and back then I took every song literally so I worried endlessly about the silhouettes on the shade I didn't realize that it was a love song. I had the same problem when "Since I Lost My Baby" was out. I recall watching the record go around and around and thinking that the MGM Lion which was on the label had run off with the baby. One too many Tarzan movies I guess. (lol)
My Dad wore my record down playing this overr and over so he could play the song my ear. Dad made fun of do wop and rock'n'roll but he loved this one and a few others.
@gallaway17 Quite frankly I don't know what your problem is. There is nothing offensive in anything written about this song. If you can call another human being that you do not even know an _______ then you
A favorite song from childhood. I was seven and the college kids taught us all the dances for the time. I remember the stroll and the chicken. This was a number for the stroll. What great music and what a great time we had listening and dancing to this song.
Thank goodness my mother played the radio all the time. I was quite young, but even hearing it as a little girl it had an impact on me and I loved it. I remember putting my arms around myself and dancing around the living room to this song pretending I was in the arms of a boy!!!! Nostalgic, beautiful post for me. Thank you.
@gva0917 Thanks Gayle, another I've always liked but didn't know the name of. Slightly before my time, but an oldies fixture for sure. Added to my 1957 playlist of 75 songs. Never understood the word silhouettes before, actually. Not a typical song word. My channel's turned into a real music library with it's 620 playlists. Now I've got to finish 'repairing' the 1957 list -lost 3 songs over 2 months, not bad I guess. chuck
@chkjns I am glad you liked it. It was before my time too, but with the magic of radio we were exposed to music from early ages - provided our parents listened to the radio or played the stereo. My Mom did most definitely; I am appreciative of the fact she did because I heard songs that I would have missed because we really didn't get into music until junior high or middle school - whichever it was called. It is the first song I consciously heard and had it stay in my mind .
@gva0917 This interactive messaging is the best part about ytube. In reading & listening again, I realized this belongs on my doowop faves list as well! chuck
@chkjns Yeah, for a zillion reasons this song has a special place in my heart and it gets a lot of credit for my love of music, those seeds were sown with this one song. No doubt about it. :)
@gva0917 I hate to say it, Gayle, but this sounds like a super-slow bossa to me. There are some extra pickup beats to the downbeat, but the basic 'bom....ba-dom' is there, just really stretched out. I knew this song had a hook for me and I think it might be the bossa beat. Whaddaya think? The strange part - Bossa's only been introduced in Brasil the previous year, 1956. Could they have heard a Brasilian bossa recording? Or did they come up with this independently? Amazing historical song to me!
@chkjns I am so pleased that a song I heard as a small child and, as below, was the first song I consciously remember hearing and loving has some historical value to you. This song definitely was the germination of my love of music and I 'gotta give mom credit for playing the radio and records all the time so I got to hear some really good tunes that I may have missed otherwise. This sone is a great post.
One of the first rock 'n roll songs I remember from my early childhood. Even as a little girl, this song appealed to me up one side and down the other. Thanks for such a grand post. Talk about going back in time. I cannot thank you enough for this one! :)
@MiGrandeCazzo Herman's Hermits ! I am dumb founded by that post you made. that's like saying Willie Nelson sings The Beatles songs Better than the Beatles !! I am not knocking Willie either.
Great Song. I'm 13 and i love 50's and 60's music! I hate the crap they make today. People dont know what good music is anymore. Thumbs up if 50s music is the best!
Hey kid, im 28 and even this is before own my dads time. this is some good stuff. but dont worry. you have some good stuff coming out of your generation. you just need to stop for a moment and listen.
@atmulti3216549870 We will take back America and bring back the 1950's do not allow the words " racist"and "homophobe to deter you this is your country and your destiny no one else's priorities must come first then our peoples
@CheatsANDStuff Wow! Great to know another teenager out there who likes this stuff - younger than I!! That's great man, this is real music. When people could sing and there was real talent. Thank you for the post!!
@CheatsANDStuff too be sure too, I love this song too, makes me cry happily o.o I think you would like Mr blue sky by ELO, Electric Light Orchestra its a pretty happy song
@CheatsANDStuff Don't worry kiddo I'm 26 and many of us are fighting to bring back the good old days don't get scared when it comes time to take back America..do not allow the terms "racist" "homophobe" and " old fashioned" hold you back in our fight... let's make our children innocent and give them the America our ancestors fought for!
pure summer romantic 1950s slow dance song dancing with the girl of my dreams in a hotel in the catskill mountains on a starlit moonlite night in 1960 and as the song progresses falling in love
One of the first rock 'n roll songs I remember from my early childhood. Even as a little girl, this song appealed to me up one side and down the other. Thanks for such a grand post. Talk about going back in time. I cannot thank you enough for this one! :)
This song personified the late 50's and early 60's...Silhouettes, by the Rays..Since I don't have you, by the Skyliners and You Send Me, by Sam Cooke..now those were real ballads..There have been covers of these songs but none like the originals..Where has it all gone???The magic we once had is disapearing...
FUNNY THING THEIR IS ANOTHER GROUP CALLED JUST RAYS SINGING THIS SONG BUT THEIR BLACK SEEMS LIKE THEY STOLE THIS SONG FROM FRANKIE LYMON THEN RAYS JUST CHECK YOU'LL SEE WHAT LOSERS LOL.
I always got a kick out of the guy getting P.O.ed banging on the door only to find out he was on the wrong block.. hahahaha bet he felt like a jackass.
This reminds me of my friend Happy who died in 2005, Love you Hap! Rest in Peace dear friend. Will see you when we get up there to those pearly gates! Save a seat for us at the Banquet old friend!
OH WHAT A GREAT MEMORY!

Anyone who likes this song, take a look at a French song called Dis Lui Non, by Francoise Hardy. Same melody and I like hers better. ;-)
Go ahead and explore the rest of Francoise's music from the 60s, you will like it.

Dad made fun of do wop and rock'n'roll but he loved this one and a few others.

gallaway17 1 year ago
@gallaway17 Quite frankly I don't know what your problem is. There is nothing offensive in anything written about this song. If you can call another human being that you do not even know an _______ then you
probably have some very deep problems.

I would rarely admit that a Mersey version by Herman's Hermits was better but it was; even though in this version i can understand the words.
