  • 7:04 Wait, she packed for a five day trip! I'm assuming she had a lot of her possessions still in India and she gave up their old apartment! Don't come back? Where is she supposed to stay and what is she supposed to do about what's still in India?

  • Why is there an intermission?

  • @Android2137 thats how indian movies are .. they have a break

  • The dancing scene was absolutely beautiful. Anybody know the song?

  • I'm in LOVE with the song at the end of this!

  • The end part made me feel like I was on marijuana or something...

  • I wonder if Dave has seen this. And if he has, I wonder if he realizes what a wonderful, creative, and brilliant woman he pushed away.

  • This movie is VERY artistic. It's interesting how tells the whole story in a humorous fashion, but then you come to scenes like the dance and realize just how serious the whole movie is. The juxtoposition is quite jarring, and very well done.

  • That whole sequence at end was amazing. Enjoying the whole movie as a whole but that was something special. The cherry on top.

  • i can't believe the intermission ACTUALLY took all 3 minutes lol

  • Poor Sita and Nina

  • DAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...lol......

  • Wow....

  • Joseph Campbell would be pleased.

  • Superb story, animation, and music, but who is the fellow riding the ram at 8:34?

  • @CopycatStudios Agni, the god of fire who delivers Sita from the flames

  • Ah. Thank you.

  • one of the best most heartfelt parts of the movie

  • I have to say the fire part is my favorite. There some really beautifully imagery and music there. The use of iconography and the beautifully rendered dance was very visually appealing to me. I wonder what the song was playing in the background.

  • Good fire metaphors.

  • the most interesting,

    imaginous,

    colourful,

    psychedelic

and mysterious part of sita's story...

    by far..

    wonderful, really

i hope this gets to the people who made it

  • okk i love this the colors are like crzyy!!! and its like pop art tht moves..ive truelly haven't seen all of this combined together

  • I think this is the best segment of the movie - it has the song If You Want the Rainbow (if that's what its called), the funny intermission, the breakup scream, and the fire dance. This movie is so incredible!

  • The gods pictures in the song is so scary.

  • So whatever happened to Nina's husband? Has any reporter ever asked him to comment on the movie?

  • I heard he was relieved. I guess he thought he was going to be portrayed far more negatively than he actually was.

  • Yeesh, I wonder what his idea of "negative" was, then. :-)

  • @ Inkan1969

Trust me, if you knew her, you'd know just how unpleasant it can get!

  • @Diosibundo Um, who are you? Do you know her?

  • @Inkan1969

I was in India working with Dave at the time. He's a really sweet guy, but SUPER SHY and kind of intimidated by her. What Nina presents on the film is true I guess, sort of, but she leaves out that:

    (A) he didnt want her to go there in the first place and...

    (B) she's nowhere near as sweet as she portrays herself on the film.

I do feel bad for her, she was having a "Fatal Attraction" meltdown, but this depiction is very, very unfair.

  • @Diosibundo ..he was intimidated by his own wife..

  • @bluemooon27

Yeah well... she's not exactly a joy.

  • @bluemooon27

Yes, OF COURSE he was being wimpy, but I was there, I saw it, she was being super racist towards the Indians, super emotional, mean, rude and..not controling but desperately lonely and bullying. Funny that she found a super sweet guy to vent her venom on. She is NOTHING like she presents herself on the film.. neither is he.

That being said, breaking up by email? HILARIOUS!

  • @Diosibundo ..you're obviously his friend..were you the one that turned him gay?

  • @bluemooon27

HAHAHAHA! What??? Is she saying someone turned him gay? That's hilarious! No, no, 'twasn't me.

  • @Diosibundo are you saying this movie is racist?? I'm Indian and I enjoy it! This is creativity not racism..but then some people take things too seriously-even Gandhi ji had a sense of humor!

  • @bluemooon27

No no, of course not, this movie is not at all racist, and neither is Nina, but she was definitely, hum, let's just say she didn't exactly endear herself to the Indian artists due to her cultural sensitivity.

Seriously, would you appreciate someone talking down to you and trying to fix your "Indianness"? Not likely!

  • @Inkan1969 Yeah. He said he was kinda relieved. I think he expected to be portrayed as this mean, grouchy guy. Way worse than here. I think Nina could've done so much more to dehumanize him, considering how hurt she was feeling (hell hath no fury like a woman scorned). But to me it seems more like a falling apart than he purposely trying to get rid of her just cuz he's a jerk. Relationships disintegrate at times.

  • Woah. O_O That sequence is FANTASTIC! Awesome!!!

  • sita reminds me of Helen of Sparta....

  • sita reminds me of helen of sparta

  • I love the part where there are tears of fire...

  • the hand drawn dancing scene is my favourite part. this movie is so great. i loled through so much of it. (like lotuses!)

  • @Joethegirl agreed!!! at first I wasn't sure what I'd be getting into but I haven't lol'ed so much for one thing... since... since, probably never.

  • I love it. And i'v got a drama festival tomorrow for william shakespear and we do the winters tale and no one in my school knows what it's about and everyone elses we know. So if we mess it up we get the home advantage.

  • was this originally shown in theaters? otherwise I don't get the need for the intermission...

  • This originally ran the film festival circuit in 2008; I think that's why it has an intermission.

  • Nina Paley is magic. And Annette Hanshaw makes Nina's vision pure magic.

  • suttee dance!

  • Just beautiful... great animation with humor and sensitivity in the story telling.

  • gorgeous rotoscoping(?) work.

  • correct.

  • rotoscoping is painful, painful work.... but this actually makes it look worthwhile.

  • amen

  • 01:44

    Speaking of pain...^_^;;

  • Oh that monkey, lighting the Intermission on fire. HA -HA!...Arson.

  • Dumping through email? Nina's husband is a jerk.

  • Did he really dump her?

  • According to wiki (so it might not be entirely correct), he "terminated" the marriage while she was at a conference in New York. So... yeah, it's similar to the plot line here.

  • I don't know the details of Nina's life. Still, the animated Nina got an email from husband saying "don't come back" with the tittle dumpsville.

Whether it is a dump or not, I would scream the same way Nina did.

  • He did, apparently. This is the ultimate revenge - making a freely distributed public movie like this ;)

  • Agni Pariksha (Sita's Fire)

Artist: Todd Michaelsen Vocals: Reena Shah

  • What's the song called after nina got dumped?

  • Agni Pariksha (Sita's Fire)

Artist: Todd Michaelsen Vocals: Reena Shah

  • It's so goood na?

  • It's brilliant!

  • nice song
