7:04 Wait, she packed for a five day trip! I'm assuming she had a lot of her possessions still in India and she gave up their old apartment! Don't come back? Where is she supposed to stay and what is she supposed to do about what's still in India?
This movie is VERY artistic. It's interesting how tells the whole story in a humorous fashion, but then you come to scenes like the dance and realize just how serious the whole movie is. The juxtoposition is quite jarring, and very well done.
right..so he dumped her over an email, yeahhh..sorry that's crap, if you're married to someone you tend to get over being "intimidated by them" by that point in the relationship..that's such a cop out!..So typical..whenever a woman gets dumped in a relationship.."it must be because she was controlling, not because dave was a wimpass". right?
I have to say the fire part is my favorite. There some really beautifully imagery and music there. The use of iconography and the beautifully rendered dance was very visually appealing to me. I wonder what the song was playing in the background.
I think this is the best segment of the movie - it has the song If You Want the Rainbow (if that's what its called), the funny intermission, the breakup scream, and the fire dance. This movie is so incredible!
I was in India working with Dave at the time. He's a really sweet guy, but SUPER SHY and kind of intimidated by her. What Nina presents on the film is true I guess, sort of, but she leaves out that:
(A) he didnt want her to go there in the first place and...
(B) she's nowhere near as sweet as she portrays herself on the film.
I do feel bad for her, she was having a "Fatal Attraction" meltdown, but this depiction is very, very unfair.
Yes, OF COURSE he was being wimpy, but I was there, I saw it, she was being super racist towards the Indians, super emotional, mean, rude and..not controling but desperately lonely and bullying. Funny that she found a super sweet guy to vent her venom on. She is NOTHING like she presents herself on the film.. neither is he.
@Diosibundo are you saying this movie is racist?? I'm Indian and I enjoy it! This is creativity not racism..but then some people take things too seriously-even Gandhi ji had a sense of humor!
No no, of course not, this movie is not at all racist, and neither is Nina, but she was definitely, hum, let's just say she didn't exactly endear herself to the Indian artists due to her cultural sensitivity.
Seriously, would you appreciate someone talking down to you and trying to fix your "Indianness"? Not likely!
@Inkan1969 Yeah. He said he was kinda relieved. I think he expected to be portrayed as this mean, grouchy guy. Way worse than here. I think Nina could've done so much more to dehumanize him, considering how hurt she was feeling (hell hath no fury like a woman scorned). But to me it seems more like a falling apart than he purposely trying to get rid of her just cuz he's a jerk. Relationships disintegrate at times.
I love it. And i'v got a drama festival tomorrow for william shakespear and we do the winters tale and no one in my school knows what it's about and everyone elses we know. So if we mess it up we get the home advantage.
According to wiki (so it might not be entirely correct), he "terminated" the marriage while she was at a conference in New York. So... yeah, it's similar to the plot line here.

Noooooooo! You're wrong! I mean, cute movie and all, but I was there, I saw it all!
It DEFINITELY didn't go down the way she's portraying it... "Dave" is a sweetheart.
She skipped the part where "Dave" only went to India to get away from her in the first place and she chased him there!
Poor "Dave" was freaking out, he didnt want to be mean, but she really was pretty unpleasant!
